Well, y’all, after years of arguin’, meme slingin’, and folks hollerin’ 'bout how "Isekai is wreckin’ anime," it looks like the dust might finally be settlin’ down. Here we are in 2024, and things sure seem a bit different. More folks are warmin' up to it, and some fans are even callin’ it a classic genre now, right up there with shonen, shojo, and slice-of-life. So, what do ya think? Has Isekai finally found its spot in anime history, or is it just another fly-by-night fad that’ll be gone in a few years?

Why bother fighting in this war nowadays? Sony is buying Kadokawa, thus the main source for isekai will die out...

Isekai is far from done.
Shounen/shoujo are demographic
Isekai is a theme that can go to any demographic. Isekai in my book is a very broad classification.

Just feeling like other fantasy themes are starting to get more popular, still isekai is not dead and the war neither.
In the end it probably will need to get a renaissance or it will fade out, just like old school mecha shows did.

After more than a decade of dominance (though it exisyed before then) it's definitely fair to say isekai is most definitely an established part of anime/manga/LN history.

Isekai is very popular now, but I think it has a high chance of ending like mecha genre. Mecha genre also used to be very popular and frequently used in anime back in the day, but at some point its popularity simply started to fade away until mecha became just a mere shadow of its former glory.

Oversaturated market and trends have their limits, especially the former. Isekai genre might eventually reach such moment someday in the future and reach the status similar to mecha genre these days.

As long as the Japanese people are still depressed and suicidal there will continue to be more and more Isekai adaptations. The more normies that hop on the anime bandwagon, the more haters will emerge. It's far from over yet.

No I think it's gotten so bad now that those of us with functioning brains have given up even bothering to complain about it anymore.
What started as rising criticism that turned into disgust then hatred has come full circle to just plain apathy.
Also, worse things have emerged since isekai's decline into the banal; things such as Generative AI.
There seems to be no bottom to the depths humanity will crawl into just to suck every last bit of creative spark out of itself in favor of programmed sludge. What can I say....

Any genre can keep going if it gets good shows, with good writing, good characters, and hopefully some lovely fan service.

So long as it continues to bring in revenue it keeps the studios going to produce the shows you really want to see down the road.

"War" implies there's a two or more way fight with something to be gained from the conflict. This is just people who have zero impact on the trends in Japanese media whining about a thing they can't change and can easily avoid.

Isekai might fade away bit by bit like mecha when someone comes up with a new kind of genre or sub-genre that will get increasingly popular with new releases by the authors.
It has not happened yet which I'm grateful for since I really enjoy fantasy settings isekai has. Don't care much for the harem though on many series.

More variety would be nice, but outside of that, it is a just a theme at the end of the day. One that does have pretty high potential for worldbuilding when done right. History will weed out the mediocre series by the time this trend inevitably gets replaced by another.

For the last 3 or so years, there has been an ongoing war on anime as a whole.

Much like the video game crash of the 1980s, studios are just pumping out absolute chungslop garbage and the amount of anime to be excited for each season is becoming less and less, and its nearly null.
Hence, The Chungslop Anime War, a war I have fought in since the very beginning, as stated in my profile bio.

For as long as isekai remains more creative than any other genre, people will stay jealous and keep projecting their own insecurities onto it.

I'll just keep buying Japanese Blu-rays of my favorite isekai anime.

I think it's more just that people put down their pitchforks because they know it's not worth fighting. There's still a dozen shitty isekais every season but there's other things to watch, and we'd just get a bunch of shit from whatever the next trending genre is anyway if there were fewer isekai. Just through pure chance we've had some good isekais because if there's enough of a genre some of them will end up being good.

Isekai is only 10-15% of airing anime. It did not cannibalize other genres.
Isekai is just fantasy with a twist.
"Isekai is generic" said by people who have Naruto and One Piece in their favorites.

People will focus on a few Isekai shows and try generalize the whole genre without actually watching more Isekai shows and forming an educated opinion.
And lots of people will bandwagon on hate trains just for fun and to fit in. Herd mentality.

@BigBoyAdvance Give me a few really good yet short ones, not dragged solely by fantasy clichés and sexual content (tasteful enrichment is fine). No kidding, I realized I know nothing about good isekai.

Fantasy will stay forever. Isekai? Maybe, but it could easily be replaced by reincarnation within the same world or time loop. It's already slowly happening in the last few years.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/48849/Sonny_Boy is nothing like the usual isekai, the girls are barely sexualized and the attention Madhouse gave to motion details is remarkable for anime standards, as if it was a foreshadowing of their Frieren adaptation.

Seems like the war on isekai is over and so are the wars of every other genres and demographics..
Looks like free anime content is about to be eradicated from the internet so that will drastically lower the demand and number of fans. seems to me like the landscape of anime is changing with Japan's new AI systems to tackle piracy. When it impact the availability of free content, I think , it will deter new fans and discourage a lot of fans. So less fans watching anime means the war of words will decrease to minimum 📺

@RainyEvenings Nah, The piracy will still live it hard to maintain a Ai system since internet is huge even the dark side on of the web the Ai will not detected and there still skill hackers out there.
