The Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle in AGF2024 event announced a movie for the franchise on Sunday, revealing the main staff, an announcement trailer, and a poster visual (pictured). The movie, dubbed as "the first interactive movie in Japan," will open in theaters on February 21, 2025.

The "interactive movie" would allow the audience to decide the outcome of the rap battles unfolding on screen through a voting system conducted within the theater. Each audience member casts their vote in real-time during the screening via a smartphone app, and the story progresses based on the choice with the most votes. This results in the storyline and ending shift with each screening according to the audience's decisions.

Staff
Original Story, Music Production: Evil Line Records
Original Character Design, World Design: Evil Line Records, Yuuichiro Momose (Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima)

King Records launched the Hypnosis Mic multimedia project under its Evil Line Records label in September 2017. The project includes manga adaptations, a smartphone game, radio shows, web programs, and stage plays.

A-1 Pictures produced two television anime seasons in Fall 2020 and Fall 2023. Funimation and Crunchyroll simulcast the first and second season with subtitles, respectively.

Is this franchise still relevant? At least in Japan. To be honest, I haven’t seen them mentioned outside of music/urban stacks for a long time.

I'm so glad it's going to air when I'm in Japan so I have a chance to see it (fighting for the tickets is going to be rough though)

@RobertBobert While it doesn't seem to have the fame it used to have, it definitely still has an audience. 2nd season of the anime came out just last year, for the last few months they've been releasing new albums, new smartphone game is set to come out in 10 days, and they've just released their old game on Nintendo Switch, so I think it's still relevant enough for them to pump out new content.

@kasgier Well, I don't have any complaints or issues with this show/franchise, I was just wondering why so little is heard about it. Although the concept itself seems quite interesting to me.

@RobertBobert, I wonder what will be this movie about. Interactive, it is written, but it depends on who visits theatres. I don't understand what authors meant by it at all.

@Memore Probably something like an immersive film, where the audience themselves determines the development of the plot thanks to the ability to decide the outcome of musical battles. Another question is, what will it look like in the version for physical media or online cinemas? Will we have something like canon? Because the description assumes that it is impossible to accommodate all possible events at once, if I understand correctly.

@RobertBobert, I hope to see as many performers as posdible in the movie!

I'd be interested to hear how the immersive film plays out.
