the critique ?? YES DEFINITELY - the hate and "i do not understand how it is so well scored" ??? NO I DO NOT

sure i do not think it is a masterpiece or something but it is one of most consistently well animated with top-notch ost and also they don't delay in production-
it caters to fans of all media not just anime, it is a good gateway anime as well -
well seasoned fans might find it boring or...meh and that is okay, but we cannot discredit it.

probably going down in one of the best animes of 21st century whether we like it or not!!
and i do not think anything is wrong with carried by animation or having a lame a$$ plot

People generally like it for the good animation and fights. The story is more simplistic, but still enjoyable. Also the girls are cute/hot. Major plus in my perspective.

Sometimes a show just works and becomes extremely popular and successful for whatever reason.

Is it justifiable hate? Sure, it depends on the person's preferences and what they value in an anime.

The hate for Demon Slayer definitely stems from on how super popular and mainstream it is, so yeah I've never taken those hatred seriously.

Personally I don't see Demon slayer as one of the best anime ever but it's still very enjoyable and better than most anime I've watched.

What I like the most from Demon Slayer is its simplicity, it's just an anime about...slaying demons.

Demon Slayer is a fun time. Nothing deep, but a nice story with a good message about sticking by friends and family, and amazing openings and fight animation.

Yes the fact that it's fanbase thinks it's a better "fantasy" anime than Mushoku Tensie.

Perhaps some characters are not so well-liked by some people that resulted in negativity. Generally it is still a good series. Maybe the anime did not portray that well. But the manga is very well-written and fun to read.

Does it really receive hate though? The fact that it has great animation, but the definition of cliche for plot is an objective fact, not something made up by haters.

As far as I can see, there is more butthurt stemming from hardcore fans getting defensive about their favorite show than there is any hate being directed towards it.

Well anime fan just want to hate someone anime nowadays unlike in the past where everything was more lax like you don't like a anime that person will explain like he doesn't like the character, plot, writing or just not their type, you know like a normal conversation.

But now, Oh-boy! They hate just because is popular, over praise, overated and meme I feel that the mainstream is the one blame for this hated for no reason.

Yes, anything but its visuals & animations. Saying that the Hashira Arc EP8 animations were overrated because the fights took place at night is peak comedy.

Apart from random edgelords on the Internet who like to mindlessly thrash popular series for being popular (or to be jerks towards people who "dare" to like other stuff than them), I don't think it's hated. A lot of people love it and enjoy it, like in any other popular thing's case.

The series that's being extremely popular at a certain moment usually becomes a scapegoat for said edgelords to vent and screech for whatever reason. Demon Slayer, as much as viral it used to be (and still kinda is), is just one of fairly many shounen series that have become very popular and gained a lot of fans, thanks to (but not limited to) i.e. very successful and good-looking anime adaptation.

It's also one of the so-called "gateway anime", so anime perfect to recommend to someone to introduce them into the world of anime. Usually toxic elitists target such shows and their fans, all to pretend to be "above the lame anime". Or for whatever lame reason a delusional person could rant about a popular animated series. ;p

It'd be the best to just avoid ragebaiters and enjoy watching the show. No matter if it's a mainstream anime or not. :)

I think the fact that anime has become so popular in the last years, mainstream even, might be the reason why there is so much awkward hostility and "anime tribal wars" taking place on the Internet, and how it's not hard to find that kind of comments posted on various places.

Back when watching anime was rather a niche activity in the West, people tended to be more chilled and respectful about sharing their opinions on one show and while hearing someone else's thoughts about another show. No matter whether they talked in real life or on the Internet, it was more about learning something new and expressing yourself, than joining "a tribe" of certain anime fans, among which there are more and more "tribes" taking over whole fandoms, and which are full of people representing often childish, crude attitude towards other series and their fans.

it just got only one thing n that is its animation..
the character r so overrated .. take Tomioka, for example. Why does everyone like him so much? He’s not even the strongest Hashira. Zenitsu, on the other hand, is a decent character. Every anime needs one or two simp characters and a crybaby, so I don’t mind him.
imo For beginners, Demon Slayer is a perfect introduction to anime. Honestly, when I first watched it, I was so hyped that I finished the whole series in two days. But after watching more anime, I now feel like Demon Slayer is one of the most overrated shows in the anime world.

In the end, I'll say this Demon Slayer is a good anime, but it’s far from the best or most perfect. overall its a 7/10 or 8/10 anime

I think I had an aneurysm when I went to check episode discussions after watching ep 19 as it had just aired. I was hoping to have some fun talking about the ridiculous asspulls in a series that tries to portray a serious tone but everyone just ate it up. Felt like living in crazy land.

The more popular the show, the more hate it gets. I don't think it's justified. Most people don't even give a valid reason. They just say it's carried by animation and it has a simple plot. I don't see a single problem with this. Good animation is a plus point and an anime doesn't need to have constant plot twist after twist to be revolutionary. Simple plot executed well can be wonderful too.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

no the hate is dumb af. its a simple show with good animation, great fights, good characters and good story with great moments. its highly enjoyable. apparently people think if something doesn't have some deep profound lore it can't be good or popular. its a highly viewed show on streaming platforms and it has a lot of merch availble online. if youre someone who is hating on it just keep it to yourself as thats just how you feel. its not a masterpiece but its a good enjoyable show. what else does one want from media?

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

Everyone should be free to dislike whatever they want, no matter how popular, highly acclaimed and/or well animated it is.

There's nothing wrong with something simple, fun and carried by animation, but I prefer other anime over Demon Slayer.

I wouldn't really snipe at it, if it was being done by someone other than Ufotable. Such breath-taking animation and art direction deserves a solid well written story to go alongside it. Ufotable could be making a Tsukihime anime or Fate Hollow Ataraxia - it'll still look great but also good story, good characters to go alongside.

It's not even mid, sure it might have good animation but that's all.Overly-simplistic plot (which would be fine if it didn't try to take itself seriously and just focused on the action),cringe dialogue but worst of all are the characters, honestly I couldn't even go trough S1,so yea for me the hate is justified.

“Is the hate for Demon Slayer justifiable?”
First and foremost, what do we define as justifiable hate? For me, the only thing I see as justifiable hate is if you truly didn't enjoy the series or rather suffered while you're watching. In that case, it's justifiable; give it a low score, share your opinion on the forums (appropriately, of course), and I wouldn't care.

While unjustified hate is hating on it for any reason aside from the one I mentioned. Demon Slayer is a victim of it, but not because it's Demon Slayer, but because it's popular. Every popular show will receive such hate. Though one illogical criticism I find that Demon Slayer is constantly getting attacked with more than most is “carried by animation”.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the Demon Slayer (S1 or Hashira training arc) section?

Anyways, you're not actually asking a question, you're presenting a statement and want to convince people, and have them agree with you. Which doesn't really promote valuable discussion.

Anyways anyways, on the actual topic of the question, in the OP, you mention "I do not understand how it is so well scored" as being hate but not critique. I don't get that. On MAL for instance, S1 has an 8.45. I gave it a 7, and value it as probably 7.8-7.9. As such, I do not understand how it's so well liked/scored, just like I don't understand the love for Frieren or Bleach TYBW. This is not hate in any way.
If you take any statement that doesn't carry an argument and say that that's hate, then would it not be common to see something like "I don't understand how it's so well scored, but episode 19 is peak", and interpret it as "they hate on the show, but love episode 19", and wouldn't that be contradictory?
People are free to express their opinion on the internet, and there's no reason one shouldn't be allowed to express that they dislike a show, the same way they can say they like a show.
So, all in all, I do not see a lot of hate for Demon Slayer, and while I don't think hate is deserved regarding the show, I understand being annoyed by how inescapable it is.

Because it's not a picture gallery. Just having pretty pictures is not enough.
Great animations, insane sakuga, beautiful and thorough images of the environment mean nothing if the story is of a low quality.
Still, that doesn't stop lamos like Shinkai or Miyazaki, or Demon Slayer creators, from getting insane popularity and parasyting on simpleminded folks who, for the most part, don't care about the story or characters at all and are only interested in pretty pictures.

It is too over hated. It's not the best thing ever but its not that bad either. The online community for Japanese anime is just full of pretentious contrarians who make up a vocal minority and will just hate anything because its popular
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

Demon Slayer may not have the greatest plot in anime. But it's pretty entertaining in my opinion. And I think the praise it gets for its animation is well-deserved. I mean, it is an action anime after all. A plot that's engaging is important. But people also want to see some well-animated fights. It's not like popular battle shounen anime haven't been criticized for poor animation or changes in animation studios affecting the quality and appeal of a show, such as the first part of Attack on Titan: Final Season, Season 2 of One Punch Man, and Seasons 3 and 4 of the Seven Deadly Sins. Plot and animation go hand in hand. You also have to be a fan of these type of shows to understand the appeal. I believe the people who hate on Demon Slayer either don't like battle shounen anime as a whole or enjoy very few battle shounen. Some, ironically, also like to follow the trend of hating on popular anime to appear like a critic or someone with a distinguished taste in anime.

Is this show hated? It's almost universally praised, and extremely popular. Like, I work with in a farm with normies, and one guy pulled out his phone and started streaming it a few months ago.
The way I see it, it's not my jam and I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hate on it either. The animation looks good, the story is boring af but that's standard for these shows. The online "hatred" sounds like a bad case of battle shonen elitism as usual. Fans of battle shonen X hating on battle shonen Y to try and make their own fav look better.

The hate is understandable.
Demon slayer has a massive fanbase and critical acclaim, particularly for its stunning animation and intense fight scenes but not many people feel the same way about the story and characters.

I find the storyline to be relatively straightforward and extremely familiar, especially compared to other complex ones like Dandadan, jujutsu_kaisen in the genre.

For me the characters aren't remotely likable, i feel they lack the depth and development seen in other series and they are always shouting at the top of their lungs for no reason .

the animation is top-notch, but the character design and art style doesn't stand out as memorable for me.
whether the hates are justifiable depends on personal preferences and what each viewer values in an anime.
