https://myanimelist.net/anime/37446/Hyakuren_no_Haou_to_Seiyaku_no_Valkyria This one is extremely underrated, inspired by Norse mythology, and feels like classic ecchi from first decade of 2000s. https://myanimelist.net/anime/10155/Dog_Days This one has 3 seasons and gets progressively more ecchi every season of it, with not much in season 1. And it has very nice world building and cute animal girls. https://myanimelist.net/anime/48316/Kage_no_Jitsuryokusha_ni_Naritakute I went into it for Delta but ended up liking the entire harem and Alexia too. |

Too lazy to list all, but I often see Sonny Boy getting trashed for its plot, so I want to give it some credit here, because I really like the atmosphere and the astonishing animation, it's so detailed and gentle, you can actually see the blood, sweat and tears the animators poured into this series. |

Hmmm that's a good question, I remember someone made similar thread but about unique worlds of isekai, I think it was digicat tho I can't find my comment back than which would expand my answer here. The first one which I don't think should be a surprise is No Game No Life, it isn't complicated as some people would like it, but it had an unique idea, a completely different type of world, the 10 rules, many races in total of 16 and how "crazy" main characters are with playing games, tho I know that copyrights problems with anime aswell as illustrations in light novels, I don't care for that. Zero movie is even better. Overlord - The beginning is the best part, the later it goes the weaker it gets but it still good, I guess it is so popular right now with 4 seasons that there's no need to elaborate for the reasons. And obviously the CGI memes x) it is actually funny in this show how CGI looks like. Ascendence of a bookworm - It's very good, I am saving another seasons when I'll be in need of a good isekai. It is a must watch. Re:Zero - Despite the annoyance of Subaru and the known meme of "I love Emilia" it is entertaining with idea of death regression. 7th prince - It was actually fun to watch, with how broken the mc is, despite the shotacon baits. Reincarnated aristocrat, appraisal skill - This one offers a different approach of the build up for politics, so there won't be that much action as in other titles, it is an interesting show. |

https://myanimelist.net/anime/160/Ima_Soko_ni_Iru_Boku Fundamentally hard-hitting, human depiction of what a resigned outlook on life you can have if your experience with it has been sullied by life under an exploitative militarised dictatorship, and how someone who knew a better world can more easily be incentivised to fight against it — though not without considerable difficulty, against such an overwhelming force. https://myanimelist.net/anime/171/Strange_Dawn Entertaining testament to the idea that placing others into a scenario they are by no means willing or apt for with lofty expectations sets you up for disappointment, especially when the scope of the situation is much more complicated than anything your "saviours" are accustomed to. Despite this, it's not a hopelessly grim story, and the two main girls sometimes manage to get things done through sheer stubbornness. The picturesque visuals have also aged tremendously well for an anime that's over two decades old. https://myanimelist.net/anime/9736/Astarotte_no_Omocha This one is a pretty light-hearted fantasy, but it did have many endearing familial moments, cute girls and appreciable character development. Not fit for neo-puritans, obviously, but what is? https://myanimelist.net/anime/872/Mahou_Shoujo-tai_Arusu A consistently mysterious and original fantasy world where a normal girl fascinated by magic and witchcraft has to adjust to being transported to a world founded upon such concepts. One of the stronger, more tight-knit depictions of a group of friends maturing in-line with their situations; and one of the few isekai that contends with the main character still being emotionally attached to their home world, although it isn't alluded to much until later in the series. |

It's not perfect, but I really liked So I'm A Spider, So What?. The mc's solo adventure was really fun, the battles and trauma were very emotional. I really liked the game system that the anime stuck with the whole time, both the skills and evolution concepts were really interesting. Not to mention that all 4 OP/ED songs were complete bangers and great fits for the wildness that is Kumoko. |

Well, that is subjective. - World Building - Power System - Characters and their traits and merits, how they are built - Storywise, subtexts, themes and symbolism I barely watch shit. I haven't touched RE:Zero S2. KonuSuba S3 is alright, not like previous seasons, but I didn't finish it. Shield Hero S2 is disappointing. I have no favorite one to say the least. |

Obviously, I have to say No Game No Life. Unlike most isekai, the protagonists don't get any kind of overpowered abilities, they just have the knowledge and skills they used in their old world to become their world's greatest gamers, which would be overpowered if they were regularly faced with human opponents, but instead they're often facing off against fantasy races that ACTUALLY have magic and other overpowered cheat skills (like Izuna and the Shrine Maiden's blood break), so it's often a matter of trying to strategize around those cheat skills, and overcome them despite being weak. In addition to that, the world is unique and different from any other fantasy world you see in isekai anime, largely due to the 10 covenants. A set of rules put in place by Tet, the god of games and the one true god in the world of Disboard, which act less as guidelines, and more like physical laws of reality that can not be defied, the first of which posits that all conflict must be settled via games. The art style is visually appealing, and the games are mostly unique fantasy twists on real games, which helps to ground them to some extent, allowing viewers to very easily understand the basic rules and mechanics, while also making them very interesting to watch. Of course, all of this is even better in the light novels, and there's a lot more world building there, because the anime only adapts the first 3 volumes, which make up the series' introductory arc, introducing us to the world and characters, and ultimately setting up Sora and Shiro's endgoal. |

Kiba - 2000's anime so before a lot of the tropes people are tired of. Story is solid and doesn't feel rushed. Zed never feels too over powered, to me at least. The weapons are basically light sabers, so I guess some might get a kick out of that. Others might be tired of that reference. A drawback is it's length, which might be a turnoff for some. Youjo Senki - still has magic, but again doesn't feel too close to other isekai. It does have the whole death and incarnation thing, but it doesn't feel forced. Just turning the mc into some random shit because fuck it. It's done because God is a dick. The only downside is the next season us taking forever to come out. Drifters - this one. I really enjoyed it. I liked the angle of using historical figures similar to the Fate series. But it pains me deeply that this will probably never be a completed adaptation. The drip fed a few OVA episodes, then absolutely nothing after that. Not even a hint to my knowledge. No Game No Life - really vibrant and colorful characters and world. I like how everything is dictated by games. Characters are fun. Elephant in the room I'm not going to address for obvious reasons. If you hate that stuff, avoid this. Also, anyone looking for a little nip action, not gunna find it here. Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! - Ok...I'll say this off the bat; this one, really stupid. Intentionally so, but still. I'm not even going to sugar coat it, if you thought Lelouch was "cringe" (does anyone still say that?) while acting as Zero, you're going to hate Cid. This is a fact. It's just the right amount of stupid for me though. My main issue is that with the jiggly bits and all those attractive characters, this should have gone full ecchi. Nips and all. Re:Zero: Not even going to defend this one. It's nothing amazing. Subaru can be really hard to watch sometimes. I hate Beatrice's voice with a passion. Emilia isn't that interesting so far. I still like it though. Konosuba: It's a comedy anime that I actually get some laughs from. I'm pretty sure Aqua doesn't have panties. Only minuses is it has some overused rpg elements, a kinda generic world, and again, lack of nips. Isekai Suicide Squad: I saved this one for last, because this is the hardest to sell why I like it. It's probably just an attempt for WB/DC to hop on the isekai train before it derails completely. The story isn't all that great. It felt kinda rushed in places. There was a teaser for a sequel that might never be. The comedy didn't always hit. But I had fun with it. I liked that design for Harley. I liked Clayface nerding out. The Japanese casting was solid, even if I thought Jokers was kinda iffy. But then again, I liked Ninja Batman. Maybe even more than this. So this is probably specifically made for someone like me. No Harley nips though. Just that weird thing where a character floats naked in a void that apparently auto censors. But they censored Harley in her animated "adult" series on a freakin streaming service, so I'm not surprised. There is my list. More mention of nips than I thought I'd make but...Nips. |

The first season of Log Horizon. I enjoyed the whole "When society falls, we rise" theme of the series. How the people that got isekai-ed decided to collectively work to make the most of out of their situation. Damned shame though that Log Horizon Season 2 & Season 3 didn't live up to that first season. And also curse the author for getting jailed for tax evasion. |

Good in the sense it's actually one of the prefect forms of escapism in this medium as entertainment for a majority of people who have mundane realities. Often times Modern Isekai include extremely relatable characters without the need of having complex and over driven back stories. Modern Isekai is simply just an easily digestible form of entertainment to the point one can easily find themselves watching an extremely trashy title and then later on even finding it just as amusing to re-watch over again multiple times and still enjoy it just as much as before. I can't count how many times I have watched an extremely trashy modern Isekai and instantly in the back of my mind wanting to eventually buy it on Official Physical copies when they eventually get released simply to collect it and potentially re-watch it again multiple time in the future to share with my real life friends. When ever I get together with my friends in my man cave we shoot a few games of pool, play poker, and even just to hang out and socialize while drinking beers while Anime is playing on one of my mounted TVs used as background ambience. 2 out 3 times when it comes to modern season Anime, I instantly will grab an Isekai Anime I own on Physical Copies that most of my friends haven't watched before or even watching something new that is currently airing on the multiple platforms I subscribe to now. Now if we are talking about Isekai Anime that are exemplary "Great" or even thought of as Masterpieces that would be a whole different story to talk about... To get back to simply good Isekai Anime I can easily list out a few modern examples. "I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too" is an extremely trashy Isekai with not even a very exceptional premise. It offers very little as a story but is extremely digestible and amusing to watch anyways. This Anime is such a wishful thinking male power fantasy to the point it's literally seen as a male power fantasy for nothing more than to create a male power fantasy. So one could even call it the epitome of a male power fantasy just for the sake of creating a male power fantasy. Anything that goes wrong is easily conquered, everything always ends up going the protagonist's way regardless of the situation, and any foe is easily defeated. Every attractive female in the series is suddenly extremely and annoyingly attracted to the protagonist where they would all literally throw their bodies at him at a drop of a hat if the opportunity presented itself. All the while the protagonist still keeps a cool, clear, and calm demeanor about himself grounded in the reality of a stereo typical inexperience of a teenage brat's self-confidence. It's the one redeeming quality that actually makes the character extremely likeable. Where they won't simply just go out an abuse their new found reality to seek out extremely selfish endeavours and also not taking advantage of the situation with their new found looks to go out and try to knock-up every new attractive female in his life. Even something as recent as "Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers" was extremely entertaining to me where Just the OP alone for this Anime is literally burned into my brain imagining a cute Moe Demon Wiafu bouncing around singing "Love Love, Love song...". Where you got another typical male power fantasy with a mild mannered protag that surrounds himself with an easily forgettable Harem cast of cute stereo typical adventurer women along side his new found Moe Demon bride Wiafu. Living the slice of life style fantasy of building a homestead in his new found fantasy reality world and just out to do nothing more than enjoy his new existence while trying to avoid getting involved with the politics and conflicts between the Humans and Demons by taking sides. It's an ideal neutral premise situation that makes it oddly entertaining to watch. Where the protag befriends demons and humans alike while likely being the most over powered character in the entire story. I could go on but just got really tired of typing all of a sudden so I will just end things here... But I think many get the picture why I think so many Modern trashy Isekai are actually really good and extremely entertaining to watch. |

@ColourWheel I think I get your point that when it comes to a genre fulfilling its main objective, modern isekai is great because it gives exactly what it's target audience wants. I really can't get over the I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too example, however. It's so immersion-breaking and hard to suspend my belief when the mc pulls off absurd feats in the real world that just get waved off by the people around him by some imaginary logic, or just completely ignored. To the point where I have to pause and take a break from the anime before continuing. Was the viewer supposed to find that funny? If that's the case, then skill issue on my part. |

I want to create a 50+ list of all the isekais that I think are actually good/enjoyable but I'll refrain... So I'll just mention: Log Horizon (all seasons) : Because I like the grand worldbuilding and the cozy cast. The plot is sometimes wack but it's often times enjoyable. I love the atmosphere. It really feels like a bunch of gamers got stuck in a video game world. The MC is sometimes OP but in an intriguing and not too OP way. The soundtrack is also pleasant. .hack//Sign : I like how mundane and low-sci-fi it is. Again, a MMORPG, but it instead focuses on a specific dilemma/plot point. Arguably, it is not an isekai. Or is it? This anime gets into philosophical stuff, where you consider 'can this even happen?', and I like that it tickles the viewer's mind. The soundtrack here is also very pleasant. The MC might be annoying but it makes sense and I like the other characters even if they are lame or cringe because it adds to the realism of a dynamic mmorpg. |

It's too much of a pain to start explaining why I like these isekai anime so gonna skip that. But these I recommend you to at least try, then jump into the light novels. I'm linking the light novel or manga URL instead of the anime since not everyone has an anime adaption. Sadly. Mushoku Tensei Overlord The Eminence in Shadow Isekai Ojisan My Instant Death Ability... Loner Life in Another World <--- Anime coming this fall. Hopefully good. Light novel is great. I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash |

@ColourWheel I believe this can be summed up to people having tolerances for different things. I haven't seen the anime you refer to in the example, although I can probably infer it, the description of what you gave sounds plausible to me. The cases from the isekai cheat skill anime mc using power in the real world blatantly in front of ppl were left unexplained and also implausible when I applied my imagination, and it just happened too frequently. But everyone's milage varies in this regard, so that was my personal experience. I agree that not taking anime seriously is best if you always want to enjoy it. There is a certain enjoyment that comes out of taking an anime more seriously, however that certainly limits what you can enjoy, and through enough logical critique pretty much any anime will be pulled apart, so best to never go that far in the first place. |

Here are my picks: Ima Soko ni Iru Boku - the best isekai I've ever seen. Mature themes (war, children participating in military conflicts, many tragedies coming from it, dystopian dictatures) and good production quality. The show is well directed and with interesting story. Its characters are not that much complex, but complex enough to blend well into everything and participate in the storytelling process. Digimon Adventure - one of pioneers of the genre. Exciting world, good character designs, unique atmosphere and setting. Fun to watch for literally everyone, not only fans of the genre or teenagers. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! & Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou - for their humor, full of gags and hilarious situations, and take on classic DnD adventure. Everything mixed with very nice visuals and interesting direction (mostly when it comes to KamiKatsu. Speaking about KamiKatsu, the concept was and still is fresh, unlike 90% of copypaste generic isekais, lol. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken - for it serving a wholesome atmosphere, and mix of a classic, generic isekai, but enriched with various many features, to the point of making it feel unique and fun to watch even by people who are not particularly fans of this genre (like me). |

1.I'm a spider, so what? The protagonist is extremely entertaining. When I first saw this manga on mangahaus, I felt that it was a very interesting narrative style, gradually revealing more and more details of the world, switching back and forth between different aspects of the story. The cool and detailed video game-like system is closely intertwined with the story and the world. 2.That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is very interesting. Watching a slime build its own country and gather more and more powerful allies is fascinating. There's a lot of comedy and fantasy politics involved. It also has some cool, exaggerated fights and some great emotional moments. |

drifters - love the action, fun characters grimgar of ashes - kinda depressing and I like that youjo senki - reincarnated into a historical military fantasy, something different. also, just kinda good overlord - kinda average but still entertaining tensei shitarra slime - idk I liked the manga and the anime stays pretty true to it so... ascendance of a bookworm - cute, slice of life and if they count: inuyasha is #1 and I did enjoy log horizon and ngnl |

Juuni Kokuki, none of the modern day isekais come even close to this one. It has a very unique other world and great world building. |

Suisei no Gargantia One of the rare sci-fi isekai not about vrmmo's. Short run time, but manages to touch on some thought provoking stuff. The worldbuilding is well done too, it really nails the waterworld aesthetic. |

again, Ascendance of a Bookworm, because, 1) no video game bullshit, 2) she uses her knowledge of the other world to her advantage, 3) she has to work herself up from a low position using her own abilities and not birthright or divine providence, at least at first, 4) she faces challenges and doesn't always succeed. though she has some OP abilities, it doesn't necessarily make things easy for her, 5) the world appears to have a functioning economy and is somewhat fleshed out |

@Zettaiken 7th Prince IS NOT Isekai. He is reincarnated in his OWN World. Straight Fantasy. Aristocrat is though. |

Re: Zero gets better in the 2nd Season. Subaru is insufferable in Season 1. But we all KNOW THIS. LOL. But wasn't No Game No Life canceled because the author actually plagiarized some of the material? Any way, I did like it I've seen so many, but few stand out Konosuba: Simply refuses to take anything serious. A few classics... Windaria No Escaflowne. Simply Gorgeous El Hazzard: The Magnificent World. The Pioneer OVA was not only beautiful the story was funny & engaging. Inyuyasha: Though that might be time travel. |

No Game No Life is the most unique and best isekai anime I've seen. I know some people think that that's not a high bar to pass, but the premise and characters are just so well done. A more recent example is Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. There doesn't seem to be a lot going on n terms of the plot itself, but the fun premise and characters make the show very enjoyable for me. |

@Zettaiken No problem. I see a lot of people make this mistake. He was killed because he had almost no magic, than got reincarnated into the Royal family with an INSANE amount of Magic/Manna. Even CR's people made this mistake in their podcast, lol, because it does seem a bit lie an Isekai. |

Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life - cute comedy, has a good ending Outbreak Company - had an original story Log Horizon - it is very good but I feel that the light novel should be better Leadale no Daichi nite - I like isekai with female protagonists. Knight's & Magic - mecha + isekai Youjo Senki - is a classic Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu - a lot of fanservice Hai to Gensou no Grimgar - the most realistic isekai I saw TenKen - I like the fact that the sword has not become human. CHOYOYU! - unique story but poor animation Noukin - had an interesting story but could not develop it in the anime. Poukin - the protagonist is very charismatic Ansatsu Kizoku - good character design, gripping story and now comes the second season. Digimon Adventure - childhood Lv2 kara Cheat datta Motoyuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life - one of the best anime of this year Shokei Shoujo no Ikiru Michi - shoujo ai Tenkuu no Escaflowne - another classic Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou - the waifu is very cute |

In The Land Of Leadale: Ok, yes because it's just very laid back & pretty. She is OP but does not flaunt it. |

I quite enjoyed Grimgar: Ashes and Illusion. I love how they kind of know that they were isekaied but slowly forget that over time and focus on their lives in the new world. |
