The Summer Pockets Prologue Party event unveiled additional cast members, a key visual (pictured), the theme song artists, and the first promotional video for the television anime adaptation of Key's Summer Pockets visual novel on Sunday. The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2025.

Cast
Miki Nomura: Saku Ichinomiya (number24)
Shizuku Mizuori: Sahomi Koyama
Umi Katou: Aimi Tanaka (Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf)
Kyoko Misaki: Megumi Takamoto (Magi: Sinbad no Bouken (TV))
Kobato Naruse: Minoru Shiraishi (Hajimete no Gal)
Inari: Konomi Suzuki (Lost Song)
Ryouichi Mitani: Kentarou Kumagai (Dungeon Meshi)
Tenzan Kanou: Youhei Hamada (Noblesse)

Konomi Suzuki (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu), who previously performed both theme songs for the visual novel, will return to perform the opening theme "Alka Tale" and ending theme "Lasting Moment."

Tomoki Kobayashi (Bokutachi no Remake) is directing the anime at feel.. Keiichirou Oochi (5-toubun no Hanayome) is in charge of the series composition. Mai Ootsuka (Non Non Biyori) is designing the characters. Shinji Orito (Clannad), Jun Maeda (Air), Donmaru (Planetarian), Tomohiro Takeshita (Planetarian), Ryo Mizutsuki (Rewrite), and Shuuhei Oohashi are composing the music.

Key released a demo version of the visual novel in April 2018 before releasing the complete game in June of that year. The game was ported to iOS and Android platforms in December 2018 and to Nintendo Switch in June 2019. Visual Arts published the game in English on Steam last February.

An updated version titled Summer Pockets: Reflection Blue featuring new routes and content was released in June 2020. Software company Prototype published the game on Nintendo Switch in July of the same month. The smartphone version on iOS and Android devices were subsequently updated to include the new content.

Based on the original concept by Jun Maeda (Angel Beats!, Clannad), Kai (Harmonia, Rewrite: Cradles Tale) directed the visual novel. Kai, Hasama (Tokyo Babel), and Yuu Niijima (Hatsuyuki Sakura) penned the scenarios.

Na-Ga (Little Busters!), Tsubasu Izumi (Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka), Yuunon Nagayama (Hatsukoi*Syndrome), and Humuyun (Lunaria: Virtualized Moonchild) are credited for the original character design.

Shiki not being in the additional cast… It’s gotta be a plot. A surprise reveal. If theres no RB content, the SP anime wont even be a contender for top key anime no matter how good the adaptation is

Yeah... we're prob not getting the RB routes adapted. Tbh, most of them aren't anything too amazing, but Shiki's easily my fav character in the VN. This anime will probably be a two-cour adaptation of the base game stuff, and maybe we could get a one-cour adaptation of the RB routes later down the line (similar to how they adapted Little Busters with the EX OVAs).

God! Is this project still alive?! I was already starting to fear that Key had decided to call it quits and we would, at most, get an adaptation of some of their mobile projects, if we saw them at all.

@Inorichi This isn't necessarily the last reveal of the supporting cast. Although Key in general usually ignores additional routes in adaptation.

@GoldenDevilGamer If their past adaptations have taught me anything, then most likely we will get a full adaptation + OVAS with additional routes if it is popular enough.

@RobertBobert They had news back in June, announcing the staff, showing the teaser trailer/KV and.. today's event.

Also explained why it took so long then, they didn't want to give it to just anyone and if you know feel they don't take too many projects at once. Not that long ago something by this particular director + feel ended having years until some news (Remake Our Life!).

On today's event, during the interview they said they have been working on the anime since 2022 which is after the anime announcement.

@TiagoCosta I'm willing to wait as long as I can if it guarantees a good anime. It’s just that Key has recently gone into some kind of anime shadow along with Dengeki Bunko and this has made me feel uncomfortable due to the loss of my favorite anime sources.

@RobertBobert Nah it was very unlikely it would be scrapped based on the producers comments. Both the anime producer and VN producer made comments along the lines of making the “next key anime masterpiece” or not making “just an anime”. Which is why its weird they’re not adapting RB.

RB is in a pretty weird spot since its essentially half remake half new content. Shizuku and Miki could easily be skipped but Shiki really tied into the ‘island lore’

Honestly some OVA’s could work, but with a key nakige, I feel like most the impact would be lost after the ending. I guess all I can do is hope and pray the adaptation won’t conclude in 2 cours and they’ll follow up with another cour like LB Refrain. Or do a movie adaption of Shikis route lmao

@Inorichi Well, you can look to Little Busters, Rewrite and Clannad, which have split routes as seasons, if you like.
