| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I'd been expecting them to lose a close game from the moment I figured out that it was a round robin style tournament. I'm a bit curious as to how much trouble Ryonan's last opponent will give them, and whether or not Akagi will be allowed in the game with his ankle in that condition. is it just bad animation timing or did Akagi choke when he got the ball at the last second? they really need to teach Sakuragi how to shoot a ball when he's not within inches of the rim before the next match. |

| Unbelievable. Gonna be honest, I teared up too. I was definitely on the verge of losing it. Sakuragi... I can't believe it. I'm pretty sure they're going to brush of Akagi's injury. I'm sure he'll be fine. |

| Holy crap... I probably look like Sakuragi right now. TWO points!! Against Kainan, the champion!! Ohmyheart. I can't take it. Best match. Best episode. Sakuragi has finally developed some, to the point that he will cry in frustration. First Akagi gets injured, then Rukawa shows off his moves, then Sakuragi gets serious... oh damn this match. My heart. My heart. But they played with no regrets! It was a fabulous game. Plenty of things that they know they have to improve on now. |
| Undoubtedly the most powerful episode so far. When Sakuragi passed the ball I thought "this is Akagi's chance to attain his dream himself and tie" until I saw the jersey color. I swear, there's one character that looks like Gori on every team. There was a great sinking feeling in my chest when the time ran out and I had to fight back the tears when I saw Sakuragi's expression. The character designs were all so incredible at the end as well, really brought out the authenticity and atmosphere of that conclusion. |

| Same here, I lost it when I saw Sakuragi's face T^T Sakuragi must be blaming himself now, for losing the game along with Gori's dream. This episode is the most emotional by far. I shed manly tears. |

| This show gets better and better. To think I was going to tap out after the first 15 or so episodes.. so thankful I did not. I too got emotional when they lost and my heart went out to Sakuragi. I did not know it was a round-robin style (I purchased bootleg DVDs where the translation is shit.. but they do convey what is going in most of the time) which may have been stated before the tournament started. When they lost, I thought they were done so I was like "Holy shit.. did not see that coming!" |

I'm watching on KissAnime and I don't think they ever mentioned that it's round robin, so I was sure they'd win, and when they lost I was just like "...... What now?" |

| Shohoku lost? WTF? Poor Sakuragi-kun. Shohoku! Next time! The nostalgia hits in waves with this show. They animate every scene you need for dramatic impact. Sometimes newer isn't always better. This show hardcore makes you want to play basketball haha. It also makes you feel like it's summer. So nice and toasty. I just want to go to high school and play on the basketball team next to the ocean. They doubled back to shocked faces which was funny but man I miss that cheap animation and cheap double takes. 90's anime, romantic sigh. haha. The memories flood back. It makes you feel like that kid shooting baskets in the backlot again. Hoop dreams and all. |
| How could they make the best moment as well as the saddest moment all in just 1 minute T__T Not gonna lie, I cried at this. This is how good this Anime is. I'm definitely going to play more Basketball. That dunk by Sakuragi!! He was able to dunk on Maki. Kanagawa #1! My heart was wavering when he got the ball!! Zettai KATSUUUUU!!!!!!!!!! Even Rukawa cheered on him! I compared the scene from the manga and its exactly the same!! Anime made it better with voice, OST and new angle scenes :D Maki should have let Sakuragi dunk so they can get the possession. I guess he wanted to make sure he doesn't score to finally finish it off. Damn, if Kiyota didn't notice about Mitsui looking at the board like that. He would have made that shot. Even using his nails just to tap that ball. Hats off to Kiyota. That was pure luck honestly. Feel bad for Sakuragi. He really tried his hardest to keep Shohoku alive. Bound to make a mistake since he's only been playing the game for just 3 months. Still, I understand why it hurts him. He really wanted Shohoku to win. He wanted to keep Akagi's dream alive. You can't blame anyone. Mitsui could have gotten that, If Rukawa didn't leave the court due to lack of stamina. Everyone truly did their best. Not even the #1 Team in Kanagawa could have dominated them. I understand why basketball or any other sports is more than just a "game". It's really a way of life. Maki giving respect to Akagi and Shohoku. He knows they could have lost that in those last 10 seconds. Truly what makes Slam Dunk the best basketball and sports Anime/Manga out there!!! This is the reason why I played Basketball in the first place and why I'm coming back again after a long ass hiatus! |
