Not counting my childhood days when I would casually watch random episodes of DBZ, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Ranma 1/2 if they were on local TV... I properly got into watching and exploring the medium more regularly when I was around 21-22 years old at the time.

I was 7 in 1989 my cousin would send us a box of vhs that included Chinese/Vietnamese drama's and anime. All the anime were in Japanese with no subs and the first ever anime that I watched was Zeta Gundam followed by Macross,Hokuto No Ken and DragonBall.

I started "properly" watching at 31-32. You have my respect.

What even got you into it at 33? Just curious.

I've had friends in my 20s who tried and failed to get me into anime, and then I just picked it up on a whim after coming across some clips online from Demon Slayer and Violet Evergarden. The lockdown happened soon after and the habit stuck.

Somewhat similar to you, on a whim. I properly got into it when decided to watch Attack on Titan in 2022, because there was always a lot of hype around it that even crossed to the mainstream media. That started the ball rolling with a firm decision to continue other shows.

Over the years, in my 20s, I've seen a couple of shows like Death Note and One Punch Man (which I liked), but I always looked at them as an exception to the rule and thought I'd never start seriously watching anime.

It opened up a whole new medium of entertainment, feels like I stumbled onto a treasure trove.

I grew up on the Spanish dub of Heidi, so maybe around 4 or 5 was my first exposure? I never had cable, so I watched older media on VHS and DVDs and didn't grow up on whatever was on network TV with the exception of Pokemon DVDs I would rent from my local library. Only when I had home internet access did I learn more about it and became a big fan of it. So I suppose around 13.

If even 14 is considered late, then I guess I'm a dinosaur if I started at 19-20. That was 15 years ago lol.

I first started watching Beyblade when I was around 7-8, but my love for anime didn't take a turn until I was 13.

You could say I was late to the party, hahaha..

I was three - my brother was watching the 1997 version of Berserk. Needless to say, it scarred me. Later on, when the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist aired when I was about 4 or 5, I watched that with him too, I was equally scarred but loved it at the same time, and we've bonded over anime, horror movies, and video games ever since.
What if we watched Evangelion in the sewer...?

well I was about 5 if we shall count Tanoshii Muumin Ikka, Sandy bell, Techno Police 21C and a few more.

When I was 7 I found at a local grocery store 2 VHS tape or Robotech dubbed in my language for like 2 bucks each. So got both for my week money and watched them religiously. It was not until I was 15 I got Robotech protoculrue collectors box I was able to see the whole damn anime instead of 4 first episodes I had on VHS.

But I watched allot of anime between I 7 and 15 before I even knew what anime was. I mean for 5-15 year old me all does animes I seen where just cool cartoons I got no clue they where called anime until Internet became more common.

It's hard to say, it depends on how to interpret 'when started watching'. Because I saw my first anime very early, I was 4-5 years old I guess. But I didn't look for it on TV, then around 13 I got a DVD with anime Maburaho from my friend, it was a typical low quality ecchi comedy anime, nothing special so I wasn't inspired enough to look for other anime. Then at 15 I got a hentai collection DVD from my friend, it was shocking experience but not because of hentai itself but due dark thriller plots. And that 'dark' aspect provoked me to look for other dark anime, at that time there were plenty of them thankfully, now you won't find anything like this since modern 'dark anime' not dark at all but 'edgy' to no limit, it's like to compare Hannibal lector with Joker from Suicide Squad or something. But then after I watched few anime series I made a long pause and started again after found a work. I watched everything what I wanted at that point and now rarely check for new anime since it's almost every time "I knew it's nothing special, again, but with over-top rating'.
