I thought that the events that happen ep 6 onward were disturbing.

Shigurui. There were really some shocking scenes in there. Angel Cop had some similarly disturbing scenes. Gantz was disturbing because of the lows of human nature shown more than anything else. Petshop of Horrors too. I saw Angel Sanctuary when I first started watching anime, and that really disturbed me, especially seeing as I have two brothers with whom I've quite close. I was genuinely appalled.

I didn't find Elfen Lied disturbing. I thought it was ridiculous actually. It was like watching one of those cheesy old horror movies where they spray ketchup all over the screen.

ive never been disturned by an anime, since most of it is very tame.

mayeb last episode of Berserk, it was very violent, but i wouldn't say disturbing.

Not sure if you consider this disturbing but Monster was a good one. even thou you kinda know whats going on and going to happen i would rank it up there, not so much on the violence but the story line its self.

My thoughts exactly~ Higurashi is just plain creepy~ ^__^

Elfen Lied, but mostly because of the flashback of one certain character. No, i do not watch lolicon hentai, so i'm not used to that o_O

This stuff doesn't really bother me, but I guess I'd say Higurashi could be disturbing at times.

I skipped the whole scene where...
Just hearing about it disgusted me.

Dead on. Also wins the award for 'most misleading pilot episode'.

I agree so cute and fluffy at first then a hell lot of WTFs, but Tower of Druaga was also a candidate for the prize, right?

Evangelion; not in the common sense of the word "disturbing" (in which case i would go with Elfen Lied because of the gore and brutality) but in a psychological and mind f*** sense of the word

The most disturbing anime I have ever seen has to be Junjo Romantica but only because it was of no fault of my own, and thankfully i only watched part of the first episode.

I started watching it when my friend soph sent me the video with the opening song cut out so then i wouldn't guess it was a Yaoi (even though i should've guessed when she said she'd been major fangirling over it).
I thought it was going to be okay until it got to that scene which thoroughly disturbed me. If you've watched it you'll know the bit i mean about the first episode.. You know the bit in the bedroom. When i saw that i wanted to scratch out my eyes, but i had to close the browser because i would've prefered to retain my eyesight.
But yeah.. It was horrible unless you're a Yaoi fangirl/boy

Hmm Elfen Lied was pretty disturbing, but since I prepared myself before watching it by expecting all that violence, it wasn't THAT bad. I'd say Perfect Blue was much worse because it's more psychological than anything.

Also, a friend of mine said the uncut version of Kite was the most disturbing anime he's ever seen. From what he's told me, I don't plan on seeing it anytime soon. I was wondering if anyone here has seen it?

School Days wasn't that disturbing, it was...unexpected. The most disturbing anime I ever watched is Midori.

I personally thought Higurashi was a little bit, only that part where Rika stabbed her head repeatedly. And the fingernail tearing off part. Those were the only two.

I read a review of School Days before watching it and still got disturbed. Granted, I'm relatively squeamish.

Nah...Higurashi and Elfen Lied are worse than Kite but Kite is under hentai genre so that may explain why he's squeamish.

I agree. When I first began watching Elfen Lied I was a bit disturbed, but eventually got used to all the extreme violence.

am i the only one who found the violence easily took back seat to the plot itself in terms of disturbing? human degradation, among many other touched on psychological and emotional issues. I mean blood's blood, especially freaking cartoon blood. But the ideas still distorted.

I say that Umineko no Naku Koro ni is more disturbing than Higurashi.
In it:

Yes, it is very disturbing, even in comparison to Higurashi.
