Oh Viole...his decision really did force the test to become more complicated by not choosing a partner.

So for this episode, we got alot more chatter. Even someone like Yihwa Yeon realized Viole's controversial choice and showed her hot temper. Viole just took it all so casually, which I find rather amusing. A lot of mind games going on without much action again. It's kinda hard to root for any character but everyone seems to have their own motivations.

Yeah sorry, but guys with a lot of edge don’t fucking care about feeling a girl even when they’re alone in a room with them. Though that being that, I remember the room test being the main filter out test for this floor. Can’t say they did a very good job in explaining the stuff, or more like just skimmed over, but yeah it gave a gist.

Plenty of schemings might be going on behind everyone’s back but yeah, Akraptor playing the word game with the little girl does give a sense that not everyone has gone crazy here lol. Viole has his own thing to deal with the administrator, where the animation to be really honest looked like something straight out of a powerpoint presentation, but yeah need to deal with that. Though leaving that aside, Prince really has a weird company with him after all lol. He'd learn but yeah, series needs to slow things down a bit, especially when they're about to conclude an episode. We need to breathe after all.

Am I the only one that felt like the direction/storyboarding of this episode was a mess? Nothing felt connected to each other, espically the action scenes. Even when Akraptor was knocking on the door was awkward or Love's scene. This felt like it was done by a 12-year old that had some free time compared to the first two episodes. Way too many close-up shots of everyone's faces as well, it felt like it was the only thing I saw in this episode.

Aside from the production, it's the test in which Bam fights the test admin for his connector and the rest of the members try to fulfill the needs to pass before Viole gets to them. I'm not sure how it went afterwards because I went through this arc quickly a few years ago when I read it. So, it's still interesting to watch.

The first proper test that lasts multiple episodes is here this season and like the first season, those tests that have more complexity to them and have various different things going on feel clunkily executed and rushed with rules and events not given enough time to settle in for viewers, stuff just happening like a checklist without much care in this. Honestly think not just the artstyle but even the animation was better in the first season compared to this since there were so many panning shots with characters not moving whatsoever, frames where conversations should be showcasing emotions but no movement takes place whatsoever and is stuck too long on some frames and the action feels rushed and not dynamic here whatsoever, sort of like a PowerPoint at times. The conversation with Akraptor and Miseng was too short and didn't really tease Akraptor's motivations well enough and even the action at the end with Viole and Love just felt too rushed, visually lackluster and didn't ooze anywhere near the tension the webtoon or the music in this anime was trying to sell. The overall directing and storyboarding present in this episode felt so off and terrible, making so many things feel flat or randomly presented in a bizarre fashion as a whole. No flow, no smooth transitions and even the action just looked... terrible.

As a whole, not much to find praise about with how the episode was executed. Was hearing that the production situation for this show wasn't the greatest and with each passing episode, it feels more and more evident with its adaptation. Feel somewhat empty watching this, not in a good way. Season 1's Underwater Hunt Test and the Hide-and-Seek tests were not greatly executed in the anime but those had more sense to its events and how they were portrayed and flowed more than this episode.

@SideCharacterKal You're not harsh enough, S2 and this episode in particular is bad enough for me to drop this shite. It's just random bullcrap happening without any rhyme or reason, and I despise the fanboys' excuse that everything will be explained 8 seasons later, right around 2045. The pacing is atrocious, characters are one-dimensional and the plot is ret*rded. Assuming we shouldn't really know who Viole is nothing ties this season to the previous one, so why should I care about any of this shit? Even knowing who he is, it's still bordering on unwatchable.

I'm a huge fan of the manhwa but this ep was absolute ass. Way too many closeups, stuff cut out from scenes that develop characters like akraptor there, too many things be going on and just shown and rushed like a checklist and the animation was dreadful too the entire episode. S1 gets a lot of crap for its animation but everything is drawn well and while some could be better, there was a lot more effort animation-wise with that season than this one, especially in this ep where raising standards for adpatation matters. Want to defend this since i love the franchise but cant do so this time. So awkwardly done.

Oml it's genuinely so over for this anime, so much skipped content to a more egregious degree than season 1 already, and it's 3 episodes! Not only is the animation underwhelming, the pacing and direction fails to compensate. I could be forgiving with the 1st season since there was style, there was that directorial edge that made scenes satisfying despite the skipped content from the webtoon, but not only is this a worse viewing experience, but the untrustworthy room arc is genuinely butchered with how fast we're moving.

I remember when reading this as it came out we didn't know for sure who Viole was but most just assumed. They have made it obvious in this though with his flashbacks and thoughts.

12:05 lol he just stoped the two other strongest here so easily lol. They're both frozen like statues. Also I can't take anyone that this is a threat to even rankers blah blah or whatever again. Like whenever they say that it's not even close to true. A ranker shouldn't have any problems with low rank trash mobs on these levels or other regulars.

That freeze technique he learned from the red haired or whatever guy I think his name starts with a Q or something is hella useful. He can freeze even rankers for a second and use it for some other things. It also allows him to just low diff weaker enemies.

It's really unfortunate that this series has gotten this bad treatment. The episode felt like a powerpoint presentation at some moments and there's no impact felt on the actions scenes, especially when the story if action heavy and with a lot of lore in it which neither have been done in an acceptable way in this season.

The animation still is kind of awkward, but the characters are still cool. I have to hand it to the author (may his wrist RIP), he made a cool cast. I like love, but I wish we had more info on why Bam joined FUG. Love going all out blurring the lines between administrator and ranker. He's not the worst of them though, as you'll see later. Honestly I'm just vibrating with excitement to see Mazano at some point. This show would be a lot better if the animation stepped up. That showdown with the old lady in the hall was so unbelievably boring I mean, they just wrote it off like "yeah so that happened".

@Softhenic03 I kind of agree. While I'm glad to see this season, and I LOVE the original work, I'd like to see a little more respect paid to it and slowing it down a bit and upping the animation (which to be honest is trash right now) would make me so much happier. Coincidentally, I play the mobile game which does have a lot more background and story to it, but of course I'd love if more people read the webtoon. Now that we have s2, I really hope they can step things up a bit in production so we can have a third.

And it doesn’t help that this arc is a snooze fest so far. At least in Haikyuu s4 it had a strong story to compensate for the nosedive in animation and direction, but so far TOG s2 is lacking in all 3. After such a knockout first season, it really is a shame. Changing studios and creative teams (thank god for Kevin Penkin) was a bad move, although given industry scheduling, etc I doubt they had much choice. But who knows? Maybe they’ll surprise us. 😬

........Okay yeah, this episode is a huge disappointment. Super fast pacing, so many still frames, the animation and fighting choreography is ass, and they skipped so many important character interactions. Like when Horyang just nonchalantly stated that Arkraptor saw his daughter in Miseng, when most anime-only watchers probably assumed that he was lying in the previous episode about having a daughter...zero buildup to that. And the fights have no impact - the punches look like they have no weight to them and the jumps look so stiff. The fighting scenes in this episode are already a huge downgrade from the fighting scenes in the first episode. Don't even get me started on the countless number of close-up shots of characters' faces.

Like, I want to cope and say maybe they're trying to speed-run through this arc so they can reach
But still, there's no denying that the directing and animation of this season so far has been really, really bad.

Ngl it’s so hard to really focus on what’s going on in the story with the horrible downgrade in art, direction, scene composition and much more. So many shots just look like they’re lackadaisically thrown together and the production overall feels like a rooster teeth show from back in the day. Shame cause this series is so popular and beloved

I did enjoy seeing Viole completely sidestep everyone in this episode though. Both physically and verbally. Yihwa really thought the edgy terrorist who’s obsessed with climbing the tower would be interested in her body, sis please get real 😭. Just completely stopped her little magic attack and the other dude who showed up at the door. The special test he’s taking with the proctor looks like it’ll be a challenge though.

Episode 1 was solid, but the last two kinda feel cheap if I’m honest..

I only can speak for myself: The first seasons animation was kinda weird at first but after 3-4 episodes I started to love it with the thought that it really suits tower of god but the new animation style is just common for slice of life animes or even worse compared to the slice of life animes these days. I hope they improve the animation - ofc I would wish the old one for myself back but I also do know that the manhwa also changed the art style between the seasons but it was a quality improvment and not, again it´s my opinion, a down grade.

Gotta say this was a very fast paced episode there was no room to breath. Just one scene to the next without any kind of breather. For example the new team plays a few rounds of a card game. How do they react or strategize we don't see any of that. All we see is them saying, "Oh boy that was fun" or the weirder one, "Wouldn't it be great if we all lived together." Those sentences have no emotional impact at all because we don't see them having fun just mentioning they are. Its so weak...

That's a great way to describe this season so far, just weak.

Damn, the quality is getting worse and worse. It's so obvious they're trying to hide it with all these awkward close ups and as little movement as possible, but they're not very good at it. While it's still not the worst animated anime of this season, it's up (or should I say down) there. Also, the pacing is so weird, most of the scenes don't feel connected at all. The dialogue is a bit awkward, although that's probably the fault of the pacing. The use of music feels weird to me, they're using all the best tracks from season 1, but only for like 2 or 3 seconds, then cut it an awkward place, then play another one straight away even though it doesn't match the scene at all. It's so awkward. Also, the explanation for the test had me so confused, I didn't understand it the first time and honestly, I didn't want to go back and listen to it again.

tl;dr
This season is so much worse than the first one, it's awkward and all over the place. If the manhwa's art style was more to my taste I'd just drop the anime and read it.

This series is starting to shape and I love to see that. So many moving parts and good use of mystery.

Edit: Reading the other comments I can see what some people are saying but I will say people took a mega shit on season 1 for skipping content and not doing it how people want to see it. I will say this though. I'm hear some conflicting information about this arc being good or bad though. I am liking it but do feel the pacing and directing has been rough. I don't know why you would switch studios just to have production issues.

Yeah I’m not with MAL folks at all on this one, yeah I can agree this episode didn’t look as good as the previous two, lots of closeups and whatnot, but it was not an episode that demanded amazing looking scenes anyway, now if the stuff that’s supposed to look great later on has the same treatment then I can see myself being more upset, but for now I’m enjoying this season quite a bit, even the supposed “fast pacing” is something I’m not feeling, I guess that’s one of the benefits of being an anime only lol.

And things got a bit more intense in this episode, the chill vibes did not last long because we’re already in a new test which requires lots of teamwork except for Viole, who went straight for the boss, just freezing the enemies in his way lol. And the cute ranker can pack quite a punch, Viole thought he had an easy win but it’s gonna be tougher than that, looking forward to seeing how this fight goes next time. Also I’m surprised by the turnaround of Akraptor who is now protecting Miseng, I actually like him quite a bit now, really hoping Wangnan and the gang can stay in the game, so I guess that means I’m hoping Viole fails but sacrifices are necessary lol.

And I gotta say, OP and ED both really grew on me, they’re jams man. And once again, it is unfortunate folks are not into this season, I doubt they can be reeled back in now but I am still invested.
