How do you make a story for a fighting game series though? Nevermind how most game to anime adaptations are rarely every that impressive. @deg I only found about this series because of the character's too lol, especially Ramlethal. |

@Tropisch Guilty Gear has quite a huge amount of lore. Seriously, to the point where the story mode in games like Xrd and Strive is just watching a movie. There's no gameplay. |

I never played the games but I watched the story mode on YouTube which is essentially an anime in and of itself since it’s just 4 hours of cutscene and story lol. Wonder if the anime will be a completely different story to the game, or if they’ll do something similar to Nier Automata ver1.1A. |

SANZIGEN decided to get more involved in games adaptations, huh? @Tropisch Guilty Gear has always had a pretty meaty anime-like plot. But unfortunately, it was from this point that it deteriorated significantly due to a number of crude retcons with which Ishiwatari tried to satisfy Western audiences. I wouldn’t be surprised if in this way they are trying to win the audience back after the scandals. @Phlaryx Most likely they will directly adapt the story, this would be the best and most logical option. But as I said above, Strive has the most controversial plot due to retcons of past games. |

@RobertBobert I mean, it's a bit misleading to call them retcons. Some older Guilty Gear games had a lot of different versions, just like Street Fighter. Guilty Gear games have multiple arcade modes which tell the story for each character, but what is canon and what is not only really becomes clear in the next game, or if the creators say so specifically. And the games often have multiple routes for each character with different endings too, which makes things even more confusing. But one of the most simple examples is how in the first Guilty Gear game, each character kills Justice (main antagonist of the first game) at the end. But anyone that knows anything about Guilty Gear knows that Sol Badguy is the one that actually ended up killing Justice. So yeah, Guilty Gear canon has always just been whatever Daisuke decides lol. @Phlaryx It's probably going to be a new story, since the character in the background of the poster seems to be a completely new character. Also Sol Badguy doesn't have his headband on, which (slight spoilers) means it takes place after the story of Strive. |

@Tropisch Easily if the game has a decent enough story itself and you know what the hell you're doing. They did this with Blazblue too, which has an insane story, and it was ok....Hopefully this does better. Not getting my hopes up. But at the very least it should have some fun action. Also, unlike the game at the moment, this better have best girl Dizzy. |

@Hippo-Krit This is exactly what retcons are. When Ishiwatari has been saying for years that a character's main gimmick is being a cute boy, and then suddenly declares that he considers himself a girl, that's a retcon. And even you yourself admit that Daisuke changed the canon at will. These are not just different mods and routes. |

I AM FUCKING NAKED ON THIS ONE, I AM COMPLETELY BARE NAKED ! According to the teaser and visual it seem like it's a story situated when Sol took care of Sin after Ky when depressed so perhaps before Vastedge and Overture and after XX drama CDs, weird because Sin has his Strive outfit, same as Sol but Sol doesn't have his Strive ponytail and something closer to his XX short hair look. Not the most hyped part of the timeline, definitely would have prefered a full adaptation from Missing Link up to Xrd or at least XX but way better than nothing and a step closer to my dream GGX adaptation. |

@RobertBobert He didn't ''change'' it. There's never really a canon to begin with, until the next mainline game comes out, since a lot of routes and endings contradict others when in the same game, or different versions of the same game. But when a new mainline game comes out it ususally becomes clear which routes and endings of the previous games were canon (excluding the main story modes since XRD, which have been completely canon). Now in the Strive, in one of the routes of Bridget's arcade mode (the mode that revolves around singular characters), Bridget makes it clear the she considers herself a girl. And since the developers refer to Bridget as a girl now too, it is mostly likely canon. However, that doesn't mean Bridget's past has suddenly changed. When she was younger she was forced to be a girl, which is why she didn't want to be one anymore when she finally got to leave her village, but still appeared feminine, since that's how she grew up. But nowin Strive, she realized that she doesn't actually mind being a girl, she just didn't want to be forced to be one. And now that she can freely choose what she wants to be, she seems to have decided to a be a girl instead of a boy. That's simply just progressing her character. She did identify as a boy in those previous games yes, but now she has simply decided to change it going onward. Anyways I'm really tired of Bridget discourse everytime there's a new Guilty Gear so let's not continue this maybe, although I guess I did kinda initiate it here, but imma just end it here at least. So believe what u wanna believe ig. |

@Hippo-Krit Dude, I'm not going to dismantle your walls of text and turn it in into offtopic here. This issue has been discussed a bunch of times in separate threads and I will not discuss it again in an inappropriate place. I'm already fed up with these attempts to justify blatant authorial manipulation and outright lies just because someone wants to protect their favorite series at any cost. Goodbye. |

@RobertBobert Oki doki, mb. Just engaged in it because both things you said at first were wrong. But you're right, I could've just left it with something more simple. Exicted for the anime though, hope it's good :D |

@Hippo-Krit They're not "wrong", it's just that I have the courage to call out things that I think are wrong, even if I really like the franchise and have been a fan for years. That's why I don't like it when people reject any criticism, even the most justified, just because they love this or that intellectual property. The same is true for people who will never admit that there is anything good in a title just because they don't like it. But even so, this issue has already been discussed many times and this topic is clearly not the best place to start over. |

Yikes..an anime probably for annoying people. Strive has got to be one of the worst GG games I've played. Plus the art style is hideous. It's existence is an insult to the GG franchise. Of all the GG games, it had to be this one. Hard pass. |

@TechenSurf Um, CGI cartoons and pseudo-2D games are somewhat different things. By the same logic, you would expect the Genshin anime to be amazing because the game has beautiful cutscenes. And I don't think they were the first to create pseudo 2D sequels to iconic 2D games. |

@RobertBobert Yes you could expect the Genshin anime to be great because of the insane amounts of cash involved, I am not a fan at all of the aesthetic of Genshin I can see it's got a lot of work behind it. The 3D tech of games and animation for TV/movies has a ton of overlap with most using the same methods and software. @TechenSurf I just want to give you a hint that ASC will not be drawing their own adaptation themselves and that we are talking about one of the most experienced CGI studios in the industry. If not the most. Have you even seen at least one of their shows? It will be informative if you want to see what their shows look like. |

@TechenSurf just look at how the latest adaptation of Tekken 3 looks. I think they were able to successfully capture the vibes of the gameplay, but not the ultra-sasuga that you would expect with such an approach to the issue from an adaptation of the cult Bamco's game. |
