So I was out one day at this store looking for some workout clothes and some shoes to play basketball in. While I was looking around (and being stalked by these two girls) this guy, bluetooth headset and all, asked me "do you work here?". Now, I don't know how he came to this conclusion since I was wearing my Girbaud shirt, jeans and boots, but anyways, has this ever happened to you guys?

When I was doing work experience in the hospital two years ago even some of the staff thought I was a member of staff .______.;

I get the opposite. I'm mistaken as a student when I'm actually faculty. I'm not really that young looking and am dressed more nicely than the students, so I'm not sure why. I don't hate it though.. it amuses me.

I typically go to Barnes n' Noble to read the magazines. I collect a few interesting readings and sit on a comfy couch to do so. Normally, I just leave them at a table or something for a worker to clean up. One day, I decided to be nice - and put them away myself... and someone asked: "Excuse me, do you work here?" I said, "no".

When I am on clinics looking at what they are doing (just for experience) clients always ask me if I'm a new intern. Besides that, nothing. I look too dislocated wherever I am to be mistaken.

I've only been mistaken for a gay, for a girl and for a junkie...and while I could somewhat understand the junkie part, the first two are totally weird in my opinion.

No, wait. When I was working as a teacher in high school (I was 21 then), I've been mistaken for a student once. Been wearing a leather jacket then, and it was a school where student were wearing uniforms...so one of the teachers tried to lecture me. XD Then she learned I'm a teacher as well and she lectured me even more harshly. >.>

For some reason, even if I don't have the right colors or any other clear indicator, people still think that you're an employee if you're using one of the computers used for checking product availability at Best Buy.

Also, I just happen to have a lot of red shirts and khaki pants and shorts, and I like going to Target. So yeah...

if I'm going into an electronics store with one my of technologically challenged friends, and start talking about specs and stuff, other technologically challenged clients tend to mistake me for an employee.

Got mistaken as a waitress once in a China Buffet. I was so furious. (Not that they didn't have a point.)

I got mistaken as an employee at Target once because I was helping a women find video games for her kids. I found her the games and she asked me to open the glass case so she could buy them, not knowing I was just a helpful shopper like herself.

I just finished my shift at my workplace, went to Fredmeyers wearing a white shirt with a tie and black pants and a customer ended up asking me a bunch of questions without letting me speak until they finished. I was like "Uh... um... I don't work here". She was like "Oh... walks away." I lol'd at her, in the inside.

That totally happens to me as well,
except I'm usually in public.

Several years ago, when I was still in middle school, I was going through some books at Barnes & Nobles when a woman asked me if I worked there. I can understand her coming to the conclusion because I was putting a lot of books back on the shelf, but did I really look that old to her?

Yeah, it's happened to me several times. Somehow, searching through a pile of clothes for my size makes me look like an employee at the store.

Why would you get furious? That's ridiculous.

It happened to me in many kind of stores. But most times is probably at the supermarket. Probably has something to do with the fact that is a place you visit very often.

Yes, at Radio Shack, a dolt asked me where a product was located. How does a scholar like myself get mistaken for a Radio Shack employee? Needless to say I was quite insulted.
