| ....but then why don't you choose anime with MAL score below 6 or anime which has rank of like >7000 when you pick new anime to watch? All I see you only pick anime with MAL score of 7 and above while claiming to be not care about score or rank. If you truly don't care, go watch those anime with MAL score below 6 please, otherwise you are just a hypocrite tsundere who actually care about MAL score/rating/rank. | People don't realize that only 5% of all anime are rated above 8.00. You can't really say that scores are useless if most of your favorites belong to the top 5% highest rated anime (even if it's just because higher score = better animation). |

| Bish, I watch whatever catches my eye. If it has a higher rating, that has less to do with me and more to do with most people giving scores of 6 or higher apparently. Not that I'm one to talk since I rarely dip below a 5 with the way I rate things. |

| Well, I have 2 rules: 1) I have a no-drop rule. Whatever I'll pick, I'll watch it to the bitter end no matter how much I hate it. 2) As long as an anime isn't hentai or lost media, EVERYTHING under the bloody sun is fair game and open season. Cuz of that, I just ignore the scores and just headfirst into anime anime I get my hands on, even the low-scored ones. Heck! I've sat down and completed abominations like Conception, Ex-Arm, Gibiate, Himegoto, Abunai Sisters, Chargeman Ken, and whatnot. I've also seen some of the most random obscurities like Running Man and The Gentle Lion (an anime which I genuinely liked). Has this affected my mental health in some way? Yes. Should I take MAL scores and ranks into consideration? Maybe. Will I? Nope. Also, there are some anime with scores 6 and below that aren't all that bad. The Gentle Lion is one such example. So, you can still find some rare gems in a heap of trash. :D |

| In a slightly different way to the opening post example, I do believe everyone cares about scores. They care less about the bad scores or at least try/pretend not to because it gets you no where. I'm sure most don't enjoy having something they like being belittled or berated and in reverse, having something they disliked being glorified, but I do believe most, if not everyone, will enjoy what they do liked being appreciated and talked about in a positive manner by others, thus appreciate something they enjoy having a high score. |

| I mean, there's a huge difference between scores and rankings. A high average score from members gives a solid indication of a shows quality, whether you agree with the majority on them or not is down to individual tastes, but it's hard to deny that highly rated shows have at least some good points, whether its down to the writing, or the high production values or whatever else. The score can serve as a good point of reference when looking for new shows to watch. It's an entirely different matter to care about how high a particular show gains among the rankings. I've personally never understood the obsession some people have over which show deserves the #1 spot. Especially not to the point its gotten to in the past where scores would be intentionally skewed by downvoting contenders or by setting up bot accounts so their chosen victor reaches the top. Like, what does it actually prove? That you have the highest ranked on your favourites, so what? It really doesn't change anything. I don't see why it needs to be made into some kind of competition anyway, isn't having many great shows to fall in love with better than selling your soul to one single piece of media? Most people getting into anime (who I imagine would be the ones checking out the most popular lists the most anyway) are going to be looking at the top 10, the top 20, the top 50 etc, for recommendations, not just watching the highest ranked and calling it a day. Yeah, I don't care about the rankings, never have. But that doesn't mean the MAL scores themselves aren't useful. |

| Ok, yes, i'm currently watching a very highly rated and popular anime but i would have watched it anyway since it was high priority on my PTW list. I do admit though, that i thought the higher rating might prevent another disappointment from occurring because in 2022 i watched some much lower rated anime that have caused a severe burn out for two years and i'm trying to get back into watching anime again. However, i have watched anime rated below a 7 in the past and loved them. (Alps Monogatari: Watashi no Annette, Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga, Servamp, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, Uchi Tama?! Uchi no Tama Shirimasen ka?) I haven't yet watched any anime rated below a 6 that i can say i truly loved though. However, i have many anime in my PTW that are rated below 7, some below 6 as well too. |

I tend to be more attracted to petite women without any religious beliefs in my financial league(believe dates/hotels should be split 50-50:) I love history/sci fi so I mostly try to give a shot to entries rated lower than 7 but won't do for genres like isekai, shounen etc. Maybe it is hypocrisy or halo but it's ok to have slight contradictions. |

| I mean, I do... I watch lots of random OVA that turn out having low scores. I think 4 was the lowest. I go full "video store" mode sometimes and just pick something that has cool box art and/or basic synopsis. MAL score can be helpful for gauging how objectively "good" something is, but at the end of the day I don't really care what you people think. I can decide for myself whether something is worth my time or not. |

| This argument is flawed. The connection between me not watching an anime and the anime having a score of <6 is that the anime is bad and uninteresting. I have enough experience with media that I don't need to look at the score to guess if it's bad or not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation #Third factor C (the common-causal variable) causes both A and B MAL score might be ok at finding the really bad anime out there, but it's still very unreliable since a lot of anime get a bad rating simply for handling unpopular topics or having an unusual format. |

| @Spunkert I do the same. Score is good to giving a glimpse of what quality, more or less, you can expect from a show, but as a factor it ain't decisive to me. The most important thing is always what the show is like, whether it looks interesting or not, mostly when it comes to its description and preferably several non-spoiler images. In short, yes, I don't care abouts scores to the point to let them decide what to watch. 🗿 |

| The ratings on the site are so high that it's hard to find something interesting that's below 7. You can dismiss the ratings and still "accidentally" end up only watching anime over 7 because it's not that hard to do. |

| Time is our most valuable resource. However flawed mal ratings may be, they are always there accompanying every show and since there is almost an endless supply of anime, I need a way to distinguish the extremely crappy ones. I am not going to waste my valuable time by always picking low scored anime just in case I find something worthwhile, since the chances of that happening are decreased by a lot, should the score fall below a certain threshold. Do I watch low scored anime? Of course, if the title, synopsis, art style and other factors intrigue me, but generally they are not my first choice. The root of the problem is over supply along with over availability in combination with our need to extract as much value as possible from our limited time. There are some exceptions to this logic as well. As others have already pointed out cg and below average animation seem to be demonized on this site. Armed with this knowledge (since such things are of no issue to me, unless they are of abysmal quality) I am more inclined to watch low scored cg anime for example |

| Didn't know people who watch shows with rating 6.10-6.50 care about score. Bellow 6? Those are usually titles that have noticeable flaws or short specials, music videos as far as I know. I watched a lot of those with rank bellow 7, to some I even gave a score 9. So yeah, I don't care about score, hate, blabbing etc. I watch what I like, or what I think I would find interesting depending on my tastes. |

@Zarutaku The only thing that's been "exposed" is the fact people are either too generous or too lazy to use the lower scores. Kinda hard to watch anything lower than a 6 when barely anything gets lower than a 6.
| @FanofAction There is lots of Anime with MAL score below 6, in fact the median MAL score of the "Top Anime" ranking is 6.55 right now (excluding N/A scores), meaning that half of all Anime have a MAL score below 6.55 and the other half above. | @Zarutaku Ok, fine. I've gone through several past seasons of anime , and at the very least 5's are more common than I thought. I still stand mostly by what I said though, just knock what I stated down a number. I've seen some 4's but those are extremely rare and anything lower is even more rare than that. |
