Finally the episode I've been waiting for. If I had to make any kind of complaint it'd be that they didn't use the mana reveal from the OP. Other than that they certainly did one of my favorite manga panels justice

Another madhouse masterclass. The scene of Frieren revealing her aura was awe inspiring. I love how she and Aura are juxtaposed over the course of the episode. Aura has basically wasted her life because of her arrogance. Frieren connecting with her master and Himmel totally changed her perspective on life and allowed her to start living a fulfilling life with purpose.

That “Aura, kill yourself” line was just pure goosebumps.

One interesting thing to me is how the demon king ordered all elves to be wiped out. I'm guessing the idea is that since demons live a long life and mana is proportional to the years spent training, they think humans die of old age long before they could become a threat to demons. But elves live long enough to rival them in terms of mana. This is also part of why Flamme figured that Frieren's longevity will be the key to defeating the demon king.

Also, Lügner classified Frieren as a "genius" because it seemed to him that Frieren hasn't spent many years training magic due to the amount of mana she appeared to have. So logically, if you can be extremely powerful after just a little bit of training, that may make her seem like a "talented genius", when truly it was about the amount of time she spent training her magic.

Frieren is not a genius. Mana increases with years of training so the older the mage, the greater the mana. Frieren got that powerful because she trained for 1000 years. Aura only trained for around 500 years so her mana could never compare.

But this is only about mana. There's way more to the magic system in this series than mana. And it's not impossible for a mage with less mana than Frieren to beat her.

Frieren is a genius but in her own way - describing and copy magic (this is how Frieren is able to dispel even strongest curses or barriers)

Wait, next EP preview mentioned Ausserst and First-class Mage... They are just mentioning them during some convo right? Not that the party suddenly already arrive in Ausserst or anything? If I'm not misrememvering, Frieren shouldn't even know abt the issue with First-class Mage BEFORE arriving in Ausserst, right? Or did they informed her before?
@uncleqrow They were told that in order to pass deep in the north - you need be a First class mage or at least have one in your party

I don't know if she will do it in the following chapters, but not picking up the magical scale and keeping it, especially when Frieren collects magical objects, is supremely negligent.

Magic of this scales disgust Frieren and make her want to puke (she said it herself in 9 ep).

  • The scene Frieren revealed her true power was well done. I didn't expect the rendering that Frieren's aura swallows both Aura and her aura.
  • It was also good elaboration that Aura's hair was shredded by the sword.

"Frieren's aura" = also an appropriate term for her opponent during her last moments. She got completely engulfed. Aura who? Frieren's Aura.

The flex is in the non-fight and it was done spectacularly.

@1idd0kun Frieren got that powerful from training, but she was also already a genius when she was found. Geniuses can work hard too. Hardworking geniuses would naturally be the hardest to beat.

That was so immensely satisfying. It's a shame that the realization and humiliation of defeat for those smug demons doesn't last longer

Frieren the Cunning vs Aura the Prideful
Frieren actually loved magic less while under Flamme and changed her opinion of it slightly in 'just' 50 years. Is it because it is more difficult to take pride in it or did revenge started to feel meaningless or maybe some other reason that will be revealed later. In a way magic could be seen as social status for all magic users, not just demons, but when focused on killing demons something like this becomes trivial. It may not matter to humans who use clothing for social status, but it matters to anyone that can read the mana

Another fantastic episode.

I really enjoyed the scenes of Frieren and Flamme with the episode establishing how they met, their relationship and the lessons Frieren learned in order to continue on surviving.

Aura, like all other demons, got overconfident and ended up losing in the end.

Frieren telling Aura to kill herself was pure gold and so so cold.

another 10/10 episode. I look forward to the next one.

Frieren uses BchPlz!
It's super effective!

The outcome was super obvious as soon as the scales were mentioned, but it was still really cool to see just how it turned out. Can't really blame Aura for her overconfidence, I mean with the information she had of the elf being a nobody until 80 years before and only able to take part in killing the Demon King because of the hero and the rest of his party she wasn't even on the same page.

Flamme's training is perfect for the arrogant demons. Look like a non-threat and quietly, persistently train by suppressing mana every second of every day for almost a thousand years and then cut their throats when they least expect it. And the real nightmare for the demons is that she's passed that method on to her own apprentice!

I absolutely love the way the fight with Aura played out. Frieren didn't even have to do anything. That moment when she revealed her true power, and seeing the terror in Aura when she realized how far in over her head she is was fantastic. Then to just casually walk away while forcing Aura to kill herself with her own magic was pure, ice cold brutality. I love the way Frieren's character is written so much.

Loved it so amazing. Such an amazing episode. The way the episode was composed was beautiful! The story of her master's teaching leading up to the overwhelming victory and the look on auras face 10/10. This is what anime is about: incredible storytelling and character development. Not to mention the stunning animation this anime is an all-around 10/10. This anime makes me want to bash my head into a rock so I can lose my memory and watch it again.

Its always very interesting seeing how flashbacks are implanted into this story. Considering someone like Frieren has been alive for a thousand years there's a lot of history of her life to cover, and that will take time to reveal it all. Hence why even ten episodes in and during a big fight we're getting tons of flashbacks into Frieren past. Getting to see her and her master Flamme, how they meet and what exactly she taught Frieren. The elf being the only survivor of an attack on her village by one of the demon King's generals, Flamme walking upon the aftermath and taking Frieren with her away. Flamme showing Frieren a very useful tactic of how to trick demons, suppressing your mana makes them instantly underestimate you. Demons take such high pride in their mana, training it for their whole lives and being able to read it off anyone. Only being able to see the amount of mana that Flamme was putting out not her real total. Using that to her advantage and blasting those demons away like it was nothing. Flipping their own arrogance against them is a great way to defeat strong enemies. Appear weaker than you actually are so you can surprise them with your real strength. Frieren taking this to heart and tricking Aura into using those scales, upon which Frieren cold as ice making Aura kill herself. I loved seeing how Frieren was with Flamme and even after her death and Frieren was alone until the hero party found her. Suppressing her mana for so long it became completely natural for her. Passing that knowledge onto Fern and seeing her apply that same mindset into how she uses her mana in battles. A cowardly way to use magic but a great way to trick demons.
