This is the episode that shocked me, and hooked me till the end, and when I realized this was no ordinary great anime.

One of my favorite episodes of the entire series, and my 2nd most memorable, 2nd only to the last episode. Absolute masterpiece.

Nah...

More like "Things may not always be what they seem." Or "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?"

On another note, did anyone notice how... alien Kino was? She doesn't even think on the same wavelength as most humans.

That was surprisingly dark after the first episode- very powerful indeed. I agree with LolitaDecay that the subtlety was particularly impressive; I liked how we were given a shot of the rabbit skins at the end without an explicit exposition of the questions raised about the value of life.

Artistically done indeed.

And lol Veronin, she is indeed. ^^

O__O Wow that was good... Kino is taking lessons from the Ryuugu Rena school of scary girls...
It was just really good... If only all anime was this moving.

Also Kino is really packing heat, she has 3 guns and a literal ton of knives :O I guess she needs them to survive against scumbags like that.

I thought the same thing. I agree with you 100% This is the best single episode of any anime ever made IMO. It's amazing how there is so much to think about, in only one episode. What a great written episode. This show is FTW.

I liked the firt episode, but the second episode is what won me over. This is what made me want to finish the show really fast. This is how I knew this show was a masterpeice, this episode alone told me that.

Those poor rabbits DID die in vain. Poor, poor rabbits. I was wondering how the episode would turn out when I was halfway through... Somehow I never expected that those three guys would be slave traders, although it was super suspicious when they didn't tell them what they were trading.

Kino... has skills.

This show is so deep and thought-provoking. I love it.

Nah, I think it was more questioning the value of life and the motivation/importance of charity. Whether the slave traders owed their lives to Kino, or Kino owed her life to the rabbits, whether it was worth killing to fulfil the obligation she had, and so on.

Incredible ep, I love the way that throughout most of it dialogue didn't seem necessary to get things across.

Poor bunnies. Those men deserved to die of starvation. Poor slave girl.. It disgusts me that she was eaten. Good episode though. I'm glad Kino killed those scum. In this case, the rabbits lives were actually more valuable than the people's lives.

Really deep. It really makes you think, what do you really do in these types of situations. Because it's not always all sunshine and rainbows when you extend your hand to help somebody in need. I guess the message of this episode is what Cebola92 said. "No matter how good you are evil will still exist."

And yes....Kino has skills.

.... now this is my type of anime. F*cking..... Brilliant, though I suspected the Mongolians(I think) to turn on her. To my surprise, Kino was scared for her life too. Though I knew that they might have ate their first "victim" but the scene strikes me just as hard as anything.

I got a feeling that this anime could be the next 10/10 in my list.

I loved the honesty of this episode. Kino sees that she's not obligated to the rabbits or the men, and admits that she's only helping one because she may need help in return. I love her detached attitude. So much anime is filled with self-righteousness and moralfaggotry, I cannot express how refreshing it is to see a character like this. *adds Kino to favorites*

I was surprised at how real they portrayed the snow rather than the easy to play with and walk on type you find in most anime, but I thought they only dealt in weapons but that ending was unexpected although I was expecting some form of confrontation between them and Kino but Kino sure has a lot of knives O_O

I always try to investigate things first (even though my first impressions are usualy true). But the setting is a setting. And it was Kino's not mine. If Kino was wrong in helping those guys, they were doubly wrong to turn on Kino. That explains somewhat their bad luck in the first place.

.... now this is my type of anime. F*cking..... Brilliant, though I suspected the Mongolians(I think) to turn on her.

I *always* expect such turn of events. They look like archetypical mongolians, yes, but it's not the point, of cource. If you are not Vash and can afford it, you should not tempt your "fellow" human by being vulnerable. Kino wasn't realy but she was unaware and the first move wasn't hers. I guess her principle of not to get involved with others business (so she could figure it all out beforehand) did her wrong this time.
Nothing to make far-reaching conclusions out of this. The world is not beautiful and people are not good sometimes. You do what you feel is right and you have your consequence. It's useless to think about good and bad in general. Try to make a decision, not a choice between one idea (you shouldshouldn't always help others) or the other (people are wolvesangels) or you will always be wrong... Kino made a decision and she could deal with consequences. And also, she has regard. Even for the rabbits. Bandits didn't, even for Kino. With such careless and senseless attitude they would meet their demise eventualy.

i thought this episode was trying to say
"humans always try to make their own ends meet, no matter who (or what) else must pay for that"
Those crooks were just more people. For the sake of their survival and making their ends meet, they sacrifice others. Just like how Kino would hunt rabbits to survive admittedly saying that she realizes she was stealing the lives of others in doing so.

Or at the very least, it didn't seem like a simple ying yang good exists in evil and vice versa thing.

I didn't know Kino was such a badass. I knew that there was something about her..
But I never wouldn't have imagined this to happen after the first ep.
The bit with Kino and Hermes about charity and obligation was great. Overall, brilliant episode.
