An anime project for Takata's Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta (I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class.) light novel was announced at the Sneaker Bunko 35th Anniversary Festa! event on Sunday.

Takata began penning the romantic comedy series, also known by its short title Kuranika, on the Kakuyomu website in November 2020. Kadokawa began publishing the novel under its Sneaker Bunko imprint with illustrations by Tom Osabe in December 2021. The fourth volume shipped on June 1, with the fifth volume scheduled to be released on November 1. Kuranika has a cumulative 200,000 copies of its volumes in circulation.

Rin Ono began serializing a manga adaptation on the Alive+ web magazine in July 2022. Kadokawa released the second volume on May 26.

Introduction
I, Maehara Maki, struggled to connect with anyone during my high school years, finding it hard to make friends. Then, a turning point arrived. A girl named Asanagi entered my life. Despite being clandestinely referred to as the "second cutest girl in class" by the boys, she chose to spend her Fridays with me instead of her best friend Amami, who held the "cutest girl in class" title.

In the comfort of my home, we delved into the realm of games, watched movies, immersed ourselves in manga, indulged in junk food—pizza, hamburgers—and guzzled cola, carefree and content. To the outside world, we might have seemed a bit messy, but to both Asanagi and me, it was a cherished, hidden time together.

Let me guess, this will also be an Oregairu-like high school SoL with a lot of focus on dialogue and pretty obvious romance? I see we're getting more and more shows like this these days.

@Memore I wouldn't call them "copies", but the trend is quite noticeable.

@RobertBobert, indeed, you are right. I am glad that Megumi no Daigo will have 25 episodes, it is a miracle that this work will be adapted.

@Memore Considering we've already gotten a cop show and are gearing up to get a firefighter show very soon, it makes me wonder if we'll ever get a real medical show.

A bit heavy on the wish-fulfilment at the start, but an alright read can make for an alright anime.

@RobertBobert, you are right, still Megumi no Daigo is worth watching and reading.

About medical series, Gekai Elise will air in January 2024, but rather than real medicine it is like a parody. We need works like Black Jack, I agree. Sadly we don't decide which work will be adapted.

@Memore How old is a show if it has 90's jrock as the opening theme?

@RobertBobert, it started airing in 1993, ended in 2011. It is an OVA series, adapted from the the same medical manga. As a doctor myself, I like it very much! It depicts a REALISTIC doctor's adventures and his work as a doctor.

@Memore Are you a doctor? It seems that this is the first fact from your real life that I learned about during the year of our acquaintance. So, this show is about a real doctor?

Been reading the manga for a while now and didn’t expect it to get an anime adaptation. Tbh it’s not anything special. It’s the typical generic rom com about a loner Mc and how he’s suddenly taking to toe beauties in his school. Oh well let’s see how this goes
