I decided to start this series because I heard it was called the “Father/Mother of all Isekai” (and I’m not a huge isekai fan) as the light novel had popularized and solidified some of the incredibly spammed tropes that we see in other isekai’s. I wasn’t a fan of the ecchi aspects (fan service and ecchi just aren’t my thing) and I really thought I was dead set on hating this anime for the sheer amount of horniness. But boy oh boy, I really think this series taught me that no amount of horniness can discredit the masterful writing of this show. I still haven’t put my finger on it, but for like the last 5 or so eps of the series, there were just so many instances where I would be balling me eyes out at the tragedy and bittersweet moments. I was wondering if anyone else had these sort of emotional reactions or am I just pussy (tbf I cry A LOT more than your average male so that’s a factor)?

yeah, there were just some amazing scenes in the first season. I at least find it understandable to cry in some of them.

not a pussy. it's just that good. the second cour was really friggin good, and like you said, especially towards the end, it got me super emotional. I don't cry much with TV or movies, but it got me. Now that the new season is starting, I kinda want to rewatch. I forgot just how much I love this show.

I was already tearing up when Ruijerd left the team and started balling my eyes out when Eris left and Rudeus started crying

I love how both Paul and Rudeus have a lot of room for growth.
While in Rudeus case it's an redemption arc, Paul is still making elementar mistakes, that bite him in the ass and giving him a lession.

I don't remember crying nor getting emotional over it, but who knows? Maybe it was and it just didn't register with me like that

agreed, I can see how it'd be emotional at some small moments, but bawling on a consistent basis is over my head. to each their own though

Yeah, it left a lasting impression on me by how well it was written, I just don't recall getting overwhelmed by emotions at any point other than bewilderment and excitement. It makes you want for that little runt to succeed, nonetheless; excessive horniness and all.

I agree. Generally, I tend to avoid ecchi content unless the story writing is genuinely well written.
And jobless reincarnation is definitely a well written story, especially compared to other isekais.. It manages to deliver some emotionally powerful episodes as well.
Personally, if an anime fails to evoke any tears during a sad scene, it simply demonstrates that it's not of particularly high quality.

It did make me tear up out of nowhere when Ruijerd said his goodbye. It wasn't super dramatic or supported by some tragic OST, but the scene felt so heavy. Great show.

You and I are in the same boat. I hate the ecchi parts of the show but dammit is the show's writing good. It's also animated really well too. Which makes me jealous cause my all-time favorite isekai suffered because most of the employees left to form Studio Bind which animated this series. Take a guess about which show I'm talking about.

I'm not the type to cry over fictional materials. I don't remember the last time I cried over an anime, if ever. But I do understand that this show alongside many others can be a tearjerker. It did make me tear up a little bit in some of the last episodes.

The short answer is no. I didn't cry that much after finishing Season 1 (cour 1 and cour 2). But, I was told that this Season 2, it'd be different, and I need to prepare my tissues and all that.

Tbh the fam service aspects is not that apparent as the story continues it’s just a thing in the background sometimes. That’s why imo it’s the best isekei and I’m glad s3 is already confirmed years back.
