Publishing company Kadokawa opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Tsurumaikada's Medalist manga on Thursday, revealing the main staff and a teaser visual (pictured).

Staff
Director: Yasutaka Yamamoto (Noblesse, Nekopara)
Series Composition: Jukki Hanada (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu, Sora yori mo Tooi Basho)
Character Design: Chinatsu Kameyama (Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. 2, Hataage! Kemono Michi sub-character design)
Studio: ENGI

Tsurumaikada began serializing the sports drama manga in Afternoon magazine in May 2020. Kodansha shipped the seventh volume on December 22, with the eighth volume scheduled to go on sale on May 23. Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in March 2021. The sixth volume was released on February 21.

Medalist won the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the General category on January 18. The manga also ranked among the titles in MyAnimeList's You Should Read This Manga 2023 list.

Synopsis
Becoming an ice dancer was not what Tsukasa Akeuraji had aimed for when he decided to take on the figure skating world. However, it is where he ended up as he "started too late" to follow his true solo-skating dreams.

For years, he was content with being a shell of his former ambitions—that is, until he met a little girl in whom he saw himself. Inori Yuitsuka, a fifth-grader so desperate to skate that she practiced in secret, had visited Tsukasa's rink with her mother to ask for lessons. She was branded as useless by everyone around her, told it was "too late" for her to begin, and that catching up to other skaters was impossible.

With a newfound conviction and unwillingness to let another passionate skater go down the same road as him, Tsukasa takes on the responsibility of coaching her and promises to make Inori a medalist. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

No shit I knew it was ENGI as my studio prediction, would not be shock if this turns out to be their best project.. I have huge doubts with how the direction goes but Jukki Hanada as a series composition is sort of relieving. Manga is really good, I don't think the anime will have the level of art but gonna wait for the trailer.

eh, doga kobo already has experience with doing well-animated series its just that people don't care about their slice-of-life shows so they panicked and were obviously wrong that the studio couldn't handle it

Heard good things about the source, so good thing we got an adaptation. Though the studio in all honesty doesn't have a good track record.

I heard that the original manga is pretty good. But I've never understood why so many authors love to draw almost-adolescent girls as if they weren't even 14 yet.

I agree, she looks like a kid to me too. I think it is because Japanese people are miniature in body and short in height, that is why. They simply reflect their national marks.

This is understandable and I also know a lot of pretty short girls. It's just that in anime form, it often gives the impression that an MC at 15 years old starts a relationship with a 12 year old girl.

Here he is older, not 15, I think. I haven't read the manga yet, so I can't state anything related to it (can't break away from Minazuki Yuu BL works, they would seem cliche at first, yaoi is here, of course, but first of all, it is a reflection of one's life, choices that people do, moral values, she splendidly shows the Japan's everyday life and atmosphere, I have never immersed myself in any manga as with her works).

Well, I'm not saying that the manga is bad or that the design turns me off, I just still can't get used to it.

In the crudest possible terms: Yeah sort of. But that's a very misleading way to put it. Moreover the MC already has a (more or less) girlfriend anyways, although they never really got anywhere.

Well, I know it's not a lolicon. Well, at least I think so. Then a leading question, do loli also have a love interest in the form of some kind of shota?

There's a guy, but there has been no hint at any sort of development. They're more like rivals. It's actually the rivalry and the advance of the MC (the loli?) that makes it a very good read. Istg series composition guy is really gonna come in clutch

I hope it will be at least as good as Yuri on Ice. Maybe not in terms of animation, but for me, as a person from Russia, there are treacherously few shows about figure skating in anime.

I know, but most of them are so obscura that they are almost always labeled as "hidden diamond" or shows you find by chance.

Not at all surprised to see that this is getting an adaptation. Looks like I can wait to watch this whenever it comes out since I'm already waiting on the manga to get more chapters in (or to completely finish even) before I read it anyways.

nah fr, rubs me the wrong way since loli gets used as some disgusting interest for child bodies while this character is a literal child. porn-rotted brains. I don't even know why it's weird to some people that an adult is helping a child with her skating? you think trainers don't exist in real life ?? seek help xx

Exactly! Why in the hell isnt that the first thing that comes to mind, a literal trainer and a child just learning to ice skate, but instead refering to her as a loli??? porn.rotted brains frfr. Also asking if she has a love interest..... why would you want to see a romance between two 10 year olds... weird... but guess who it was again hahahhaha anywho, men yuck
