it's absolutely worth it, especially if you bother to read into the subtext and themes beyond "environmentalism". A lot of people just stop with that, but there's so much more to get out of the film

Princess Mononoke to me felt generic and had a revisited theme.

Among my favorites of the Ghiblis are:

-Castle in the sky
-Whisper of the heart
-My neighbors the Yamadas

Note: I am watching the Ghibli movies according to their time of release these are my latest favorites.

Also there’s a cool scene where billy crudup’s character shoots an arrow at a samurai. And his fucking head pops off…it’s sick as fuck. Definitely worth a watch.

It’s pretty good, not my favourite Ghibli animation but it’s definitely a well produced narrative. My personal favourites from Ghibli are My Neighbour Totoro & Nausicaa, but Monoke was a good anime production by comparison still.

If you like Ghibli definitely, I had put watching it off until a few months ago but after my first watch I watched it another 2 times within a 3 day span.

Such an enjoyable story with good characters.

It is thematically more intense and angry than Hiyazaki's other works
More violent and disturbing than his other works
Very memorable cast of characters, though the most interesting are the antagonists, if you can call them that.
Stunning background visuals and animation though not peak
Hopeful ending
interesting world and lore
stacked VA cast in English

MCs can feel flat, though they have interesting parts
Is more sad in tone, so it can be a downer at times
Some questions that come up aren't answered in a straightforward way, which can make some parts unsatisfying or more contemplative
More subjective, but it somehow seemed incomplete to me

Imo it is worth it. Maybe not really the hype, definitely not my favorite Ghibli movie, but also not the worst. I liked the visual part and the story wasn't bad either. Slightly above the average.

I disagree with that statement because the values that stem from it are exceptional. While it does feature old-style anime art, the plot is its strong suit and I appreciate the hand-drawn art. It offers a fantastic adventure that aligns with the themes commonly found in Studio Ghibli productions. It's quite random, which adds to its charm.

Watching one of the most critically acclaimed Movies, made by a team of genius Industry Legends, probably before you even had job, all so you can now steal and judge it for free, pondering if it was worth your (very) scarce freetime? Uhmmmm......yeah...probably a pretty good Movie to watch and totally worth your time, I'd say.

As long as you have not any prejudice against anime, you will certainly love it. Totally recommend this movie and many others from studio Ghibli (Howl's moving castle, spirited away, a grave of fireflies, etc.)
