Have you noticed that mahiro is behaving more and more like a girl in each new episode. It's like he has forgotten about his previous gender identity. I wonder somehow mahiro might loss his masculinity if he stays as girl

Mahiro is seemingly behaving like a girl is because he has no choice but to adapt, since male and female bodies are vastly different.
For example, he was "sitting like a girl", because that was much more comfortable and sitting like a dude would require conscious effort.

The downside is the female bullshit he had to deal with in the last episode

there's a theory I've seen that Mahiro (alongside being overshadowed by their younger sister, of course) was a (closeted) trans girl, this makes a lot of sense for me since they accepted and adapted the sex change quickly and other reasons that IIRC are spoilers (I'm new to MAL forums so idk how to do them spoilers)

If that's really the case (not confirmed in anyway) then it explains her changes, finally feeling like she "can act feminine"

While I can see that possibility, I think a stronger one is that he hates his old self and lifestyle enough that he considers his new life an improvement regardless of sex change. Being a hikki-NEET is pretty devastating on your self esteem.

I don't think they're even going to confirm it, but if they were to, i think what you just said would be canon, it makes a lot of sense

Why it's downside I would do that too.
(Besides you can act "masculine" or "feminine" as a girl or boy lol)

If you pay attention to the details in the dialogue and visuals (and the fact that Japan isn't a western, English speaking nation) the reason Mahiro was a Hikkikomori was because when their parents left for work, he became the "Man of the House". Which not only was a LOT of pressure, but also made him feel like he wasn't needed and couldn't contribute anything. That's because Mihari overshadowed him by being pretty much better than him at everything, because she was trying to impress him and get praise from her oniichan.

Mihari turned Mahiro into the little girl to rehabilitate him into a functional (and cute) member of society. Not just to take the pressure off his shoulders, but also to make it easier for Mahiro to relate to Mihari and her friends.

Later on in the manga, and by extension most likely the anime, this stuff becomes more obvious. Mahiro still wants to hang on to her "male dignity", but it seems it's more like she's just embarrassed to like her new identity. I mean think about it, Mahiro was oniichan for around 20 years and is now imouto, the polar opposite.

I think this "mahiro was already trans" thing is just wishful thinking. I hate to shoot it down, but thats more of a ((( GAME THEORY ))) than anything.

Sorry in advance for when this post causes the thread to get deleted for political shit-flinging, but I'm just giving my opinion based on what I've seen and read so far.

I see no downsides, as long as there is a good story, changing into a girl just involves a lot of adapting to your situation, i mean having to go through that time of the month isn’t really explored in anime so there really isn’t any downsides to changing into a girl, mahiro isn’t trans , theory or not, leave that out of this context, she was a guy until changed, now mahiro is adapting to the change until his sister can turn her back into a guy.

This guy never had a whole lot of masculinity to begin with, so...
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

The theory he was (closeted) trans pre-drug transformation is riddled with holes, but he/she is more or less "trans" if they refuse to switch back.

I don’t think he felt particularly attached to his masculinity, being that he was a dejected shut in who felt he couldn’t keep up with the social pressures of “being a man”. He’s probably relieved lol but I don’t think his gender was really the issue. Though, the change brought on my mihari’s magic drug is actually proving to be an effective solution. There’s no way she would have been able to rehabilitate her brother in the state he was in so changing his entire perspective was necessary, though drastic.

Isn't he just enjoying his time as a girl like Mihari advices him to? I don't read the manga so I don't know how the drug works or when it wears off (or will it ever in this case), but Mahiro does want to go back to being a man; at least for now. He loses himself from time to time but then remembers he's still a dude. I mean he still acts and speaks like one.

That's probably because of hormones change, and besides the real downside is the freaking periods damn I can't imagine going through that every single month

The thing is that when trans start to use HRT (hormone replacement therapy) those hormones start to affect brain too and brain is starting to remap itself male to female. It can affect how person think and even person's sexuality can change. But here in anime we have whole magical transformation and who knows what effect its would really have. Also I really think too that she was actually closed trans.
