This was a great episode but it reminded me of an episode in cowboy bebop when there's a young man and his blind sister I don't remember it very well but it ended the same way

Wow I really thought he would get away and we would see a happy end which would be pretty usual for an anime, didn't expect this.

Great episode

So I guess we are to assume the Sunflower Samurai killed Fuu's Mom? Or at least played a part in it

That was one way to end an episode with sad note, I mean why they decided to kill him?
Poor mom :(

do ppl rly think pickpockets deserve to die lol?? it's a crime sure but a petty one. i understand the drastic measures taken here since it's set in the olden days but some of you guys rly sound like if someone who stole a few bucks was killed under the pretense of justice in today's time you wouldn't bat an eye.

finally someone pointing this out - I don't understand how people can be happy with a death of a petty thief, killed by police, this is ridiculous, maybe nowadays we should be also shot for crossing on red lights or not segregating trash?

This episode is such a carbon coby of Waltz for Venus, and I personally think that Cowboy Bebop did it better.

"The people who say money doesn't matter are the ones who have more than they need."

Mm... Ain't that the truth.

I think the mom's reaction to Fuu stopping by after her son died was more sad than his actual death :'(

15 year old kid deserves to die for stealing some money? Hard labor to pay back his debts maybe but not death. I just can't understand some people...

Anyway I can't say I felt sad since there was no proper character development and I already knew that there will be meaningless deaths in this anime based on the earlier episodes. Let's see if Mugen dies towards the end then since he kills people all the time for selfish reasons too like the other bad people in this show.

So close to a similar episode in Bebop, down to the resolution.

If you choose a life of crime even if it's for a good reason don't expect things to always work your way cause the risks are immensely high that you'll lose your life
Pretty much this. I think that Fuu didn't do enough to dissuade him from changing his ways, even if he didn't meet his way on this day, the chance is this fate would befall him later down his life.

Goddamn what an episode. Definitely the best one so far. I'm starting to see now why this show has a high score. This episode was very realistic and didn't give false hope. The mother knew her son was being stupid and according to her "he paid the price" man, that shit was beautiful. That kid practically dug his own grave when he gave himself a promotion by moving on from picking pockets to dealing drugs to taking hostages. Desperation is a wild motivator.

idk man, it's become a cliche of the story, either the girl almost gets sold as a sex slave or someone they met dies by the end of the epi. it kinda gets boring having figured this out

Shinsuki's mom is tripping. okay.

What in tarnation lady? When the boys Jin and Mugen trespass, you want to hiss and piss.

But when Fuu snoops around, creeping and peeking, you have the nerve to say, "aRe YoOu ShinSuKi'S giRLfRie3ND?"

I am outraged and hungry; my night is ruined! Watch your back lady. If I catch you slipping, I’m going to sneak you!

At first I was super sad that they weren't able to eat their ramen bowls. Then I left the episode feeling actually sad. Definitely wasn't expecting that. Thought this was going to have a strictly playful tone throughout (well, despite all the slaughtering lol). But no, the guy doesn't run off into the sunset, departing with the hope of seeing the girl again one day. He doesn't even get very far before, well, getting killed. Our main characters are of course one man armies with plot armour, but death is still a very real thing even in this world.

Now I don't mind our girl being the fun character that she is, I like it. But I think I'm going to like her even more now; seems like she is going to grow as a character, especially after the events of this episode. I hope that like cowboy bebop, we are going to get more hard-hitting moments like this.

I can't process these emotions. That was heart-breaking.

The stress that poor kid must have been under, no one should be faced with that :(
