MAL Yearbook 2022: Vote before Jan 24

Join us for the second edition of MAL Yearbook, where we reflect on the past year of anime and share what we enjoyed most.

We took your ideas, rephrased them into 10 fun yearbook titles, and then selected five nominations for each.

Now it's time to vote for the ones you think deserve to be crowned with these category titles~

Can someone explain to me the "Wait, that's anime?" cathegory?

Yeah that category was a little strange and left me confused, let's wait for one of the staff to give us some clarification on this year's yearbook. :)

While the idea is nice we all already know who the winners are, you can't win against popularity and recency biases

Man, this would probably have been an amazing selection... if I had watched more than a handful of these shows. Also, it amuses me that the OP/ED Section has literally no endings. All songs up for voting are openings.

If you're going to give weird names to categories, at least write what are they supposed to be. "Let's Get Loud", "Take Lessons", "Wait, That's Anime?" What's the point of this vote if people can interpret what they are voting about. Nominations are pretty awful as well. Most of them are either obscure garbage or overhyped cookie cutters.

It’s fun as is but I think it’d be pretty nifty if next year we could select any anime that aired in the past year when voting

There's a need for more options and categories. 

Yeah they shouldn't mix popular and unpopular anime like that, either all popular or none or the popular ones will always autowin.

Also I don't wanna sounds sexist but you shouldn't put so many choices for females. If you have 2 choices targeted at males and 3 at females what do you think who's gonna win? If you had only one targeted at females it would be more evened out.

But I'm not gonna complain because it's just a for-fun poll so let's not take it too serious here.

What is this lame filter on the anime seasonal page where you can only see one or two anime when this voting event is in process?

Can you fix this absolutely unnecessary filter that serves no purpose beside making it look like a broken list of a site?

Yeah, this yearbook is kinda shit. At least explain what the categories are instead of vague titles. And let us vote for any anime this year. I already know all the winners now and the categories are lame.

You guys should have added badges for voting.

This way of voting is dookie and the options and categories are dookie. Don't even need to see the results to know what they'll be. Also why are there literally zero endings in the OP/ED section???

Why are the category names so nonsense? I don't even really understand what I am supposed to vote for.
And what is with the shitty nominations? It appears like every anime is only allowed to appear once, for some reason. For example Kaguya is under smug, while Marin is under best dressed, when in reality both anime would probably fit better under cutest couple.

How about more categories that actually make sense, and would be more interesting to vote/see the results, like best comedy or best ED/OP. You could still have meme categories too. And allow people to vote for any anime that aired in 2022, rather than pre-picking 5 nominations.
As it is, who really cares which of the 5 random anime wins "Let's Get Loud" or "Wait, That's Anime?"...

Oh well, I guess it obviously isn't supposed to be something anyone would take seriously.

2022 was a wild year with lots of new animes. A lot of animes were released this year and they were really great. But out of all of them.. in my opinion Bocchi the rock probably the best one to end the year with.

I wanted to vote but the "verify you are human" never loaded for me... all 4 times I tried... so I guess no vote from me because I can't verify my humanity

according to someone else, it means an unpopular anime you probably didn't hear about. i took to mean more like it was an especially unique anime, but i'm not sure.
