| death note is good as hell. its so good, it pulls off what its trying to do perfectly. berserk, i have not had much exposure to, like its the least on the list. like ive watched more deep space 9 than berserk. and i havent read any berserk at all whatsoever but berserk pulls dark off WELL. and its way darker than death note. or ds9. |

| Black Lagoon of those in the list Higurashi probably, kind of ambiguous about it compare to Umineko: Higurashi is more about picturesque brutality than about logical puzzles and metaphors like Umineko. |

| gonna have to go with Berserk its one of my favorite works of fiction and it inspired and is partly responsible for my favorite franchise of games by fromsoft |

| Well, out of these: Higurashi and Kenpuu Denki Berserk are both in my overall Top 5 and two of only seven series I've given a 10/10. I dropped both Monster and Death Note. Fate/stay night (the original series/season one) is in my PTW list. And I've never heard of ST DS9 (Just realized after checking elsewhere online that you weren't referring to an anime, but in fact, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but I still haven't ever seen it). So, Higurashi, down to the fact that while both are 10s, it and Kenpuu Denki Berserk (the original anime series from 1997, which is how I'm judging the franchise - beyond that all I've seen is the third film from 2013 of the film trilogy, which is mostly a rehash, faster paced, and with off-putting CGI I dislike) are #4 and #5, respectively, in my Top 5, so Higurashi outranks it. And it isn't an arbitrary placement choice on my part. I do prefer it by a decent amount since it is both a complete story as told and its eclectic genre mix, OST, some of the lessons and general worldview and outlook it conveys, and some other points of note. |

| Death Note for me, it was one of the earlier dark anime I watched, so if I were to re-watch it I might not think as highly of it as I do now. |
| Berserk or Higurashi. But since I've been reading the Higurashi VNs recently, I'll pick that. |
| Madoka. I love how it constructs a duality between hopefulness and hopelessness. Too many anime are just doomer posts which completely ignore the need for a balance between the two. |
