Bleach and Kimetsu no Yaiba (again), but this second season of Kimetsu no Yaiba was one of the worst that I have seen in my life, it even broke an Olympic record by having 2 asspull per episode.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Kafka, Fu Xuan, Jingliu, Topaz and Huohuo.

I'll go with chainsaw man and MHA for the overhyped ones. Chainsaw Man is just bunch of disgusting fan service and fetishes. MHA is so boring and repetitive. Both ass.

Urusei Yatsura and Akiba maid war deserve more recognition.

no anime this year was overhyped in my opinion. all of them deserved the hype they got but some of them didn't deliver in accordance with their hype. for example, devil is a part timer season 2 and tate no yuusha season 2.

The appalling writing of Bleach left me speechless, after the promising first few episodes; I read the manga like 10 years ago so I didn't remember much. To those who wanted FMAB to leave the top spot, be careful what you wish for.

Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock! are much better but still heavily overhyped, considering the sheer amount of better anime from their respective genres that came out this year:
childcare) Kotarou wa Hitorigurashi, Kumichou Musume to Sewagakari, Deaimon
cute girls) Machikado Mazoku s2, Yuru Camp Movie, Healer Girl, Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku

I chose Chainsaw Man. Although I am not, necessarily, bothered by it, it is true that the animated series has been almost relentlessly promoted ever since its first announcement, which was ~2 years ago. That, I think, qualifies as overhyped.

Spy X Family - Very hyped up. It’s a 7.5/ 10 for me. Anya does get a little annoying in the school scenes but it’s pretty good. With the manga sales and the hype I was expecting it to be more focused on Lois and Yor, but instead it’s mostly a slice of life with Anya

Shikimori - After Dress-Up Darling, everyone was saying that Shikimori is on the same level and will rival it. It didn’t hold a candle at all. The first few episodes were boring but then it got really good. 7/10.

Chainsaw Man - I love Chainsaw Man, but fellow manga readers defiantly hyped it up way too soon. It will be hype worthy in season 2 though. Incredible adaptation though 9/10.

CSM is the most overhyped stuff from this year and no idea why. Usually if something is hyped people say why, here it feels like an abomination, no reason to be hyped for. I wonder why, no one answered yet. [Already seen people crying and complaining about cgi and other stuff in csm so I guess it didn't deliver for it's hype]

i'm very much enjoying cgi man.

still, it most definitely is the most overhyped show of the year, it could have been a 9.9 and still be overhyped, as manga readers talked about it like it would be the second coming and of course, now they changed their tune to "just wait for season 2", classic source fans' circle jerk.

honestly, most of the other ones i'm not sure i would even call over-hyped, like bocchi or mob are just very well received and arguably for good reason, some others though are, like bleach for sure, but can you blame us? fans of the anime have waited like a decade for its return and though i don't think it's mind-blowing or anything, it's a pretty good time to be had, with plenty of that sweet sweet nostalgia juice.

regarding overlooked shows, even though there are always great shows that people sleep on, i don't know if i caught something so unbelievably good where it's a crime that people missed it, for the most part i think the cool niche' shows of the year didn't blow up because they didn't execute their ideas as well as they could have. though i guess i would have liked it if heike monogatari or shadows house's second season would have gotten some more recognition.

Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Bleach and Kaguya Season 3. Dress Up Darling also but not to the extent of these but it definitely does not deserve the high score it has, it's just a run of the mill ecchi show. Nothing special.

Chainsaw Man is massively popular among young fans and that's the only reason its doing so well. Bleach is Bleach and that's the only reason why its score is more inflated than a furry on deviantart. Spy x Family is actually genuinely good but HOLY SHIT its score when it first aired was fucking stupid, like yeah it's good but just because it is good it doesn't make it the next coming of Jesus. Kaguya, again, massive fandom to raise its score and keep it for a long time.

Chainsaw Man by far. But I'm confused, why on this list isn't Kaguya-sama? Unlike Chainsaw Man if you say anything bad from that series people will start throwing shit to you, at least with Chainsaw Man it is possible to see more people agreeing with that it is overhyped, but Kaguya? Nah fam, it is apparently the best romcom of all time or some shit. Even with Kaguya-sama in the options I would go for Chainsaw Man either way

I don't listen to battle shonen hyped anymore since Demon Slayer. So even if their fans overhyped it like hell, I never took attention to it.

Spy X Family is also a WSJ manga, it also has action but it's not the main focus. I am more interested to it because fans compared it to Yotsuba or Non Non Biyori. And it's not really disappointing. So I won't call it overhyped anyway.

Have to agree with this at least as far as MAL is concerned. Especially with all the drama about trying to make Ultra Romantic the #1 anime of all time (even now still ranked #3). Absolutely ridiculous IMO, not even the best season.

Chainsaw Man, definitely. I was expecting a lot more, considering how much hype was created even before the release of the first episode. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the anime is bad, it's just... well, nothing special or groundbreaking.
The bar was set way too high for that anime, so most of us were disappointed with the final product.

By far "Chainsaw Man" was the most over hyped Anime of this year. I remember glancing over the Forums from time to time over the last 12 months and seeing threads after threads being made about "Chainsaw Man" this and "Chainsaw Man" that... I was beginning to think this Anime must be some Premo Shounen boner material to see so many fanboys metaphorically pre-ejaculate all over the MAL forums months even before an actual official release date.

Seriously at the time, "Chainsaw Man" fanboys must have had such hard-on for this Anime, you would think they were popping Viagra just to keep themselves hard till they got an official announcement for an actual air date. I remember looking over the database for "Chainsaw Man" and even seeing users already have given it a premature MAL score of 10 points months before it even aired.

Honestly the title is a bit deceiving though when "Chainsaw Man" is actually just a 16 year old horny boy.

Now if I was to pick one Anime that I think deserved more recognition it would simply be "Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout". Trust me if you haven't already seen this Anime yet, it's funny. The title is a bit deceiving since one of the main characters isn't exactly even close to being a "knockout", unless you are into short and skinny Anime chicks with shark teeth. That's probably the one thing "Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout" has in common with "Chainsaw Man", Both titles have characters with shark teeth. Either way "Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout" deserves more recognition for being an Anime that actually made me smirk and chuckle at it's humor and I rarely ever find any Anime these days humorous at all.

Oh, boi, Shokomori. Or more like... Shokoboring.
I don't think we ever had anime more over hyped than that. It wouldn't be a problem if it was just a matter of bad adaptation, but manga readers said it is how it's supposed to look like and IT IS GOOD, yet watching those characters without any chemistry was interesting as watching grass grow.

I voted "Spy x Family".

Chainsaw Man & Bleach, I think were worth getting excited over and they're fans didn't kill the anticipation everyone else was feeling over them.

The anticipation over Spy x Family also wasn't killed by it's fans. It's just that personally, I expected an anime that took itself seriously and instead I got a parody.

'Chainsaw Man'. The unrealistic amount of hype it received was always going to be difficult to live up to and sure enough, it didn't for me. This is generally why I try not to read into the manga hype too much before an anime has even aired, because a lot of fans tend to live in an echo chamber where the positive feedback loop they receive from spending years in the same places makes them believe the source material is more profound than it actually is.

It's shown signs of getting better recently, but it's not enough to save it this season from the mediocre first 7 episodes. The fact that a puking scene has been the most hyped up moment so far from the fanbase isn't a good thing.

'Spy X Family' would be a close second. Amazing that this show started so strongly earlier this year only for it to bomb, at least for me. The first half dozen episodes led me to believe the series was going to be more focused on espionage-thriller with some comedy thrown in, but it's turned out to be a goofy SOL. I've heard "something for everyone" when this show gets brought up now. Should that really be taken as a compliment when it excels at nothing?

as far as I have seen... it's spy x family

don't get me wrong I do really like the show, but I certainly don't think it's a top 50 or even top 100 or 200 worthy show.

But I do also get that it's high score is partly due to it being an extremely hard to hate show.

I don't agree with CSM though. for me it did live up to the hype. specially considering how people were calling this "the weakest part of the story"

I guess not everyone saw that bit since "this is going to be the best thing ever" was more common than it. so if you didn't know that part I guess I can see how even a show this well written and well animated by shounen standards can feel overhyped.

CSM takes the cake as the most hyped anime this year for me. Kaguya-sama is right behind it.

I don't want to argue with CSM fans, but the first 4 episodes didn't do it for me because of how shallow it felt.

Kaguya-sama humor became repetitive fast.
