1. Boogiepop wa Warawanai (2019)
   　Mini Review: I think I liked this? I'm still rather confused by several aspects of this, but considering this is an incomplete adaptation of a 20+ year LN series that's to be expected. The cast was a bit too large for its own good though, which could make it rather difficult to keep track of who's who (especially as certain characters are unfortunately not too distinct personality-wise). The the world itself was rather interesting, as were the general plots of each arc, though I wish things were expanded on a bit more, as it could often be rather difficult to comprehend certain aspects of story and character motivations due to insufficient explanation.
   
   
2. Tasogare Otome x Amnesia
   　Mini Review: I almost thought this was a Shaft anime when I started, given its stylish flair. The presentation was most definitely one of the highlight of this anime, with interesting uses of colour and camera angles abound. The mystery regarding Yuuko was executed pretty well, and for such a small cast each held their own pretty well - naturally, as the focus, Yuuko was particularly outstanding, especially as she begins to develop and we learn the reasons behind her amnesia. I wish Niiya had a bit more character, though. I liked him, but he could have been better, and it definitely didn't justify him being the centre of a love rectangle. It could also have done with a bit less of the stereotypical anime "oops accidental boob grab" scenes, though they're fortunately less obnoxious than in other shows. Perhaps because they often don't involve the equally obnoxious violent retribution that follows.
   
   
3. Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna
   　Mini Review: Some good music, Ayumu's arc was rather interesting, and Hiyono was a very pleasant surprise as a deuteragonist (especially by 2002 standards, she was a pretty damn good female deuteragonist/love interest). However, the main plot leaves much to be desired, piling on mysteries without ever bothering to answer them. From the start, we're given one main question: Who are the Blade Children? By the end of episode 25, this isn't answered. We know the identities of some Blade Children, and how to identify a Blade Children, but nothing of how they came to be, what their connection with Kiyotaka is, why Ayumu is destined to save them, or any of the other questions regarding them. This could have easily been answered by talking things through, but the characters here are annoyingly tight-lipped for no reason, artificially elongating the mystery.
   
   
4. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: Die Neue These - Sakubou
   　Mini Review: It's Legend of the Galactic Heroes - was there any doubt that I'd love this? As always, I still prefer the original OVA series, but Die Neue These is still pretty great in its own right. Even though I know exactly where things are going, there are moments that remain just as tense as the first time I watched them, and the plot remains one of the greatest in the medium. Even the soundtrack and visuals are pretty good. It can't compare to the original's aesthetic style or wonderful use of classical music, but it's still good. They perfectly nailed the ending to the season, too - really, this is the gold standard of what a remake should be. Overall, I can't wait for the next season - if only they'd bring back Valkyrie Ha or Revolution of the Heart, I might even give it a 10.

   　Mini Review: Yeah, this one was just not enjoyable at all for me. A whole 2 cours for what you knew was going to happen from ep 1, and yet nothing actually interesting happened in between. Just a super tropey, almost harem (and school romance, and literally nothing else) show. The only somewhat likeable character was Kai, and even he was still pretty bland. I don't think it was awful, but it would have held up a lot better as a 3-ep OVA or something similar.

   　Mini Review: It's a good thing I watched this now, since I just caught up to this arc in the manga. Either way, the first ep gave us more info about what happened to Mamushi, as well as giving a super sweet scene towards the end. The second one was pure comedy, but still an entertaining watch for fans of the show (like myself, even if it is purely nostalgia value).
   
   
4. [✔]Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara (Great Bean Gift - from Workshop 17, imlaabem 2)
   　Mini Review: I basically went into this movie blindly, and I seriously loved it. Great art, soundtrack, heart-warming romance that pulls you in and drama that breaks it. The characters aren't the most memorable themselves, but the context they are put into brings them to life. It's just the kind of (almost shoujo-esque) romance that I love - along with dealing with a real human experience that hits very close to home for a lot of people - and the fantasy aspect ties it up both metaphorically, and by bringing intriguing scenarios needed for this kind of movie to keep you engaged.

1. Boku dake ga Inai Machi
   　Mini Review: I am not a fan of time travel, but this was a very enjoyable watch. Erased doesn't have much world-building or a large cast, but it makes do with what it has, so every character is unique and most importantly, they are (mostly) realistically written children. Its story is well-paced and doesn't give away anything until it needs to. With that said, we come to the only negative, which would be that it eventually has to give away its mystery, and with that it also loses any chance at creating suspense. Despite that, I still think it came to a satisfying close and is absolutely worth recommending.

3. Kami no Tou (The Great Bean Gift | Workshop #13)
   　Mini Review: The first season of what I hope to be a long-running series, because 13 episodes wasn't nearly enough to justify the addiction it brings with it. From the start, Kami no Tou baits you with little crumbs of mystery and world-building, always leaving you wanting more. This is only enhanced by its large, yet intricate cast of characters. All of this is presented in consistently outstanding visuals and audio design. By the end, its only flaw is being too short.

1. Golden Kamuy
   　Mini Review: This series is insane. Like, with every arc it gets more insane. I love this premise, and it's got a great hook. It would usually be a 9/10 series for me since the action is interesting and fresh, the characters are really good and there's plenty to like about it. Unfortunately the art (particularly how things are scaled, especially with Asirpa) is a recurring issue to the point of being distracting at times. 8/10 this is a food anime by stealth.
   
   
2. Young Black Jack
   　Mini Review: I should have received the original Black Jack OVAs, but due to it being two-cour got it switched over to this. There are definitely some... choices in the writing of this anime. A lot of questionable politics being the main problem I have with this anime, the sheer stupidity of some of the medical issues being second (especially the plot of the first episode). Seems to me the author (Tabata Yoshiaki) has a hatred of strikes, military deserters and certain beliefs about American soldiers in Vietnam that seem a bit odd considering the manga began in 2011.
   
   
3. Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

4. Somali to Mori no Kamisama
   　Mini Review: What is done well in this anime is the atmosphere, the physical spaces and the bond between Somali and Golem. It has the heart of any father/child anime, and I have recommended this to an irl friend on that basis. However: I can't find sense in the conflict provided by the series. The issue of human/non-human relations is considerably muddied for me. Both sides are shown to be in the wrong, yes, but within the narrative the humans are shown as the instigators for being scared, which with the many issues Somali comes across... well I can't blame them. 8/10 Cute as hell but the writing looks like it would fall apart if it was any longer.

   　Mini Review: Honestly, I didn't expect I'd like it as much as I did. The first two or three episodes felt quite boring, but then I got really invested, and honestly, I don't know why that happened. It's got so much dialogue that I thought was a light novel and that annoyed me at first. But after episode four I couldn't stop myself and kept clicking on the next episode. And I think the reason for that is, instead of thinking of it as watching an anime, I thought of it as watching a book. And if you're someone who likes reading books then this is a nice way to get through dialogue-heavy shows. The story and the mystery aspect wasn't anything new or ground-breaking, but it was interesting enough to keep me clicking on the next episode. (I ended up binging it btw.)

   　Mini Review: A pleasant surprise ! Usually I don't care for testosterone-addled delinquent protagonists, and wow this is an ugly and barely-animated show... but there's actually a pretty decent storyline and a lot of unexpected nuance and heart in this. Also Taku Iwasaki's score doesn't hurt.

   　Mini Review: Extremely forgettable Action-Ecchi OVA with one-dimensional characters and nothing interesting going on. Not surprised it's in OVA Scum.
   
   
3. [✔] Lupin III: Episode 0 "First Contact"
   　Mini Review: A bit disappointing : as a purported "first meeting" for all the Lupin gang, it's just a bit underwhelming and dull ? Also the framing story "twist" doesn't especially help taking the thing seriously.
   
   
4. [✔] Avenger
   　Mini Review: You can tell this is from the makers of Noir and .hack//, because that is sure a lot of panning over characters barely emoting while the music is blaring and nothing at all is happening. Unfortunately, ALI Project aren't quite Yuki Kajiura (although they do try !), and even their score can't hide that this features a nonsensical setup where the protagonist just kills a lot of people without care for the havoc she leaves behind herself. The whole thing is just absurd and doesn't support the super-serious atmosphere it tries building.

Mini review: I had such a confusing relationship with this show. In the beginning I hated it cause man, the main girl deserved better than her jerk-ass love interest. But as the show continued they both grew and matured, not miraculously overnight but gradually across several years. Their relationship was a joy to watch, and say what you will about this series but it sure as hell ain't boring! It did contain some elements that didn't age well (take a shot everytime a character is being creepy and it's glossed over), but following the characters from high school into adulthood was such an unexpected treat that I'm not sure if I mind that much? Honestly got teary eyed in the last episode, such a satisfying finish to a rollercoaster of a show. 8/10 for the comedy, wholesomeness and character growth!

Mini review: Oh, I enjoyed this little movie a lot! It was like a speed-run of a typical anime about a boy who meets a mystical girl. The selling point was truly the intense relationship between the main character and his best friend, I laughed out loud numerous times when they dramatically tore and mended their relationship. Objectively, it was a bit rushed and one-dimensional, but subjectively, that's why I had fun watching it. 6/10 for giving me a good laugh!
