Don't know about you, but trapping your players by removing the option to leave is not what I call peak game design.

I think without the horrible post beta features added, focusing on if the game was just a normal game. Even with it being normal it’s far beyond normal in the area of scientific and technological advancements, so I’d say the game has great design. At least I would if it wasn’t for one big concern for me. The idea of playing a video game while your body is basically unconscious but your mind is working in overclock creates a lot of risk. You still need to get sleep for your mental sake, but that’ll be too much resting for your body overall. Also you still need to be active with your body and make up for the lack of exercise. The whole idea of being in a virtual world for too long would hypothetically create a dissociation from reality itself. All in all the concept of a game like that is great, but practically it’ll throw of all of your motor functions. Perhaps it’ll work out if it had a built in timer that inhibits the amount of time you could play a day for safety purposes. But there’s no need to think about that when we already see a much more practical virtual reality design in Ready Player One, not only are you physically active while playing it, but it’s still extremely immersive.

its not bad game design, its bad balancing and scaling

note that i only tried 2 games, SAO MD and Integral factor

the only appealing thing i could find was:
- its a gacha, of course
- its sao, no one does this shit licensed

- integral factor exclusive, grinding is actually optional (depends on your gacha, but i was unlucky and grinded)

- you can actually just go in a fight with 90% disadvantage and win, (in sao md you just need time and heal on skill, in integral factor, dodging is insanely easy)

and i dont think theres any sao game that blew up (and kept the player base high or even at mid)

Pro game designer here.
SAO's game design is abdolutely terrible for a few reasons:
>no AK47
>no Intervention
>no MP40
If they fix those issues in the next update we will be talking about a serious GOTY contender.

Game design of Aincrad is just default. There are pretty much better MMO RPG's
Elfheim? but it's the same but you can fly and villian keeps there a girl in the cage (WHY?) near lab where he makes tests on how to control the brain.
Gun gale online? the best one from all of those. Finally something realistic, also, its my opinion but the best girl of anime comes from GGO.
AR? No comments.
Alicization? Shit, because still the boring world of RPG after all of those MMO games. And nothing new from the previous RPG's.
