im currently watching amagami ss and i was checking how many seasons the series has, this is marked as a sequel, but with completely different characters. So is this a different show with just the same form of dividing into arcs or is it neccessary to watch aswell as a sequel?

It's same as Amagami SS. with Alternative routes and things. and except that this is kind of like same universe in Amagami SS. If you've watched it you can clearly see some side Character from Amagami SS in here too. but in here they were College students as I remember. so this is Kind of like Sequel to the timeline, but not for the story itself.

This doesn't mainly continue Amagami SS story or something. just as above said.

Seiren is the sequel to Amagami SS, I think 5 years after the events of ASS to be exact but I could be wrong. But you don't need to watch it, it was very boring and was a sequal that didn't need to be made imo.

I mean the concept are same but it's got different story and characters and that's all, honestly this show is pretty bad compared to amagami ss but it's fine to watch i guess, I gave it 5/10.

This is set in the same universe as Amagami and years after the Amagami anime story occured. If you pay attention closely, one of the characters name in this anime is similar to Amagami, why? because that person is related to one of the character from Amagami and they also talked about one of the event in Amagami as well. Also, Junichi made an cameo in Seiren, but only for several seconds.

Just think of this show like Kimi no Na wa and Tenki no Ko where in the latest movie the story is set a few years after the previous one, they both share the same universe and there are characters from Kimi no Na wa that made a cameo in Tenki no Ko.

No, you don't have to watch this if you don't want to. If you're wondering, does this show continue the Amagami story? No, you'll only see the characters talked about events in Amagami(a few times maybe but they just recount the most basic stuff that happened) and Junichi's cameo, and that's it.

Personally, I like this show, too bad that they cancelled the 2nd cour so we only get 3 routes and no after story or more in depth story like in SS+.

It's a distant sequel to Amagami. The setting is the same and they sometimes reference events that happened in Amagami, plus Nanasaki's brother is the best friend of the main character (he appeared in Amagami as a small kid with no lines) and who is implied to be Juncihi appears briefly at the beginning of the 3rd arc, but they tried to keep the Amagami references to simple call backs and do their own thing. If they succeeded or not with this it's on you.
