I wonder if Sugimoto will truly understand the idea of the Ainu culture.

I like how this episode made itself look like a meme at times with the movie director gimmicks. Aspira being a movie director? LOL, I didn't see that coming. The black and white coloring style of this episode was kinda interesting to see too.

Although I thought those terrible stories were made-up things for the show, it seems they are true Ainu folklore.

With this episode we get that harsh reality that this journey really is almost over. Through all the laughs surrounding Director Asirpa making her dick films we got some reminders that everything we've been leading to is almost here. Once they meet up with Tsurumi in a few weeks and combine their skins with Asirpa knowledge they'll probably either find the gold or a major clue. But it was hilarious seeing Asirpa play the stereotypical director trying to get everyone to act out the dick strokes correctly. She's very passionate about those.

The last one they did was sweet, Cikapasi getting the starring role but also being faced with the fact that Tanigaki will be leaving him soon. Its very sad but heartwarming to see how all these characters have bonded but must now separate. Seeing Asirpa mom and dad on that old film was amazing. That made me tear up again while watching. Asirpa seeing her mom face for the first time in actual recollection, seeing her dad again back when he actually had a face. It was a nice trip back in time and showing them what film cinematograph can do at that time even if not that much since no sound.

Sugimoto is right about Asirpa. She shouldn't be cursed with the weight of protecting all the Ainu. That's too much to put on a child. Raising them for that sole purpose is horrible. Sugimoto telling Asirpa to think about what she wants and not what Kiroranke and Wilk wanted for her is spot on. She should give up trying to accomplish what their dreams for her were.

Asirpa as a movie director lmao this is sure something, if it would be nowadays I can't imagine how horrible would be these movies xD Anyway sad that the movies burned after we got to see her family from 10 years ago, and that discussion with Sugimoto is moving for how serious it is after all these silly jokes

Most of the episode was dumb film making which was fun. The last part was quite serious though with Sugimoto and Asirpa's conversation and Asirpa finally getting to see her mother.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly this series transitions from penis humor to poignant and epic . Simply Golden Kamuy things.

Was a fun episode, with almost everything being about what Asirpa character is. A person trying to preserve knowledge of an oral based culture.

Asirpa had the Kurosawa look before was cool.

Cikapasi part was nice, and true.

We seen Asirpa mother which Asirpa her funny expressions.

Was a good moment to Sugimoto disclose the Wilk info.

Asirapa sure got a bit too much into the role of a film director, but it was funny for sure. That end of the episode was sure a tone shift after all the silly stuff and I'm looking forward to see what her answer will be.

Happy Halloween lads, nothing like one of my favorite anime on my favorite holiday lol. This was a great one, we’ve finally returned to Sugimoto and Asirpa, this time making movies, I definitely enjoyed the history here with the cinematograph, the fact they could cause fire easily is interesting but also unfortunate, especially that it happened right after we saw Asirpa’s mom.

The gang doing the filming was hilarious too, I didn’t know there were so many Ainu stories about dicks lol, I’m betting that’s accurate giving the show’s track record, having Koito and Tsukishima play women was funny too, especially Tsukishima’s melons lol. And I really liked that scene at the end between Sugimoto and Asirpa, you can understand where they’re both coming from, but I don’t think Asirpa’s going anywhere after the journey we’ve had so far.

This episode is a love letter to cinema, Golden Kamuy surprised me again with such a depth and philosophical tone. I'm pretty sure in the far future, if human still exist, or other form of intelligent life, will see Golden Kamuy, and see Ainu culture, they'll have fun just like me watching it today, in 2022.

first half was goofy, dumb, hinna hinna ainu history and comedy, while the second half hits you with a ton of emotions and dead serious philosophical questions.

Yeah Sugimoto, you'e said it right: Asirpa should NOT meet with Lieutenant Tsurumi, he would hunt her to death.

That said, Tanigaki is blessed that he has Cikapasi to have the common folk avoid his suspicion, though letting everyone know that he has giant testicles is so Golden Kamuy like lols. And encountering some filmmakers while almost getting sideswiped by wolverines, other than tasting their brains, it's the cinematograph that captures the Karafuto Ainu life. Inaba Katsutarou and his operator Girel are here to do just that, and Asirpa wants in due to how much it can capture scenes.

Though Asirpa assuming the role of a film director, is also Golden Kamuy like that's so unhinged and hilarious in its own right. From stories of dicks and nonsense to brothers and family, the final product came out rather decent. But it's one unusual house that captures the eyes of the filmmakers that they filmed 10 years ago, and it so happens to be Asirpa's father Wilk a.k.a Nopperabo, showing their daughter a glimpse of their first lives. It's a shame that this light arc used is the same chemical as gunpowder, leading to films captured being lost overtime.

That said, Wilk's declaration before he was shot, and even before Asirpa knows anything, she's the only person who is worthy of being leader of the Ainu, and if she continues this journey with Sugimoto to find the gold, she'll only face more danger.

Killing people sends you to hell, it's karma.

The show is still as silly as ever, and a bit slower than I expected to start this season. It is still holding up in a comedic sense, but hopefully the story picks up, and there were some signs of that at the end of the episode.

Another slow episode to continue what has been an incredibly slow start to this fourth season, and with a noticeable decline in production values to boot (lots of off-model shots and stills this episode). We're more than a third of the way through the season and it really doesn't feel like all that much has happened since where season 3 ended off: we've been introduced to a new prisoner, we've checked in with Hijikata's group and we've learned that the Russian sniper didn't die, but that's about it really. Hell, the conversation we got between Asirpa and Sugimoto this episode very easily could and should have happened at the start of this season rather than taking five episodes.

This was still an important episode, but not the most interesting one despite that until the final few minutes.

This episode had everything. Poignant film flashbacks, stunning discussion of resolve, dick jokes and hinna hinna brains for dinner.

Outside of the occasional dick jokes while Asirpa was trying to direct a movie about Aniu culture, nothing really happened in this episode. We at least got to learn how the Cinematograph was used back in the early days of film.

Asirpa as a movie director was really fun to watch. I do admire how she wanted to record moments for future generations to look back onto, but her choices of stories about dicks (which seems to be true as well!) kept on making me laugh! XD

While it was a shame that the movie clips sadly went up in flames due to the unreliability of the equipment used, at least she was able to see what her mother looked like. It led to a sizable tone shift towards the end of the episode with Asirpa and Sugimoto having a tense talk about what to do next. Asirpa wants to become the leader of the Ainu, which is what her father and Kiroranke wanted, but Sugimoto is against that idea as it means that she'll only encounter more danger in the future.

Not only that, but she's never met Lieutenant Tsurumi yet and knowing Sugimoto, he'll try and do anything to make sure that never happens, so I do side with him more, with wanting Asirpa to choose what she truly wants for herself.

Whatever happens, I do look forward to what happens next. =)

Damn, this episode was something else: the goofy first part filled with humor, and the seriousness in the second part. The tale of Panampe and Penampe, with Asiripa as the director, will certainly not be forgotten (a tale for the future generations). At least they got something out of the recording session, though, it was a shame that the tape burned at the most crucial scene.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed the drop in animation quality. We deserve better and had better.

This episode was the best reputation of the Golden Kamuy spirit so far. Unpredictable, funny, poignant, and violent with a dash of intrigue. I'm looking forward to what happens after this setup episode this week.

It's very meta that an Ainu anime did a whole episode focused on preserving their culture and surviving to the future. We said it before, but it really is an amazing thing what Golden Kamuy does for Ainu culture and history in general. I hope the surviving Ainu get a chance to keep up with these hijinks and appreciate the love the anime and manga has for them and their history.

I love this episode! Funny at first and more serious towards the end. I'm glad that the focus is back on the main team although I really enjoy other episodes too. But the animation quality is not as good as previous episodes. At least Asirpa saw her mother face. I guess the next episode will be more serious. I hope the long haired guy in the opening will appear soon.

Seriously, I could stop laughing in the first half lmao, Director Asirpa was hilarious. I really missed the hinna hinnas too, it's been a while.

Accursed early 20th century recorders. It was really interesting to see the recordings of Wilk and Asirpa's mom, she was beautiful. Now what will Asirpa do, will she become what Wilk and Kiroranke molded her to be or will she forge her own path? I am betting on the latter for sure. Really looking forward to the next episode.
