Damn, Rakuda has a temper....and not an easy one to deal with.

Mameda should hopefully learn to deal with others like him and similar experiences in the future. On the other hand, Bunko continously proves herself as a graceful and confident individual, not being intimidated by ayone. I must say, it's impressive.

Shirara's expressions are so cute.

Rakuda is a pretty nasty guy. Well, at least he smiled a bit. Good job, Bunko!

IMO he didn't laugh at her story per se, but smiled at the involuntary memory one element of the story conjured up in his mind. The story giving the oppurtunity for self insertion and for reflecting on his deeds of course helped trigger this effect, but, as I see it, the image of rain was the ultimate trigger that led to him evoking his memory of a rainy day when his first encounter with the blond girl had happened. At least that is how I interpreted that scene.

Just like tanuki has the ability to trick people, spirit fox also has special powers.
That yakuza guy smile at the act of kindness, yes, he's so evil that he consider "ignoring other people" as the act of kindness, because in a normal situation, he would hurt other people just as easy as breathing. I think the fox get the idea of the twist element from the short story "The Spider's Thread" by Akutagawa which released in 1918, around the same time this anime take place.
I've a soft spot for a (fictional) yakuza so I put that yakuza guy in my waifu list.

Yes this is what I meant as well, that's why he wouldn't have worked without her telling a very story to his own backstory

"There are all sorts of different ways of smiling, aren't there?"

So true. You don't always have to appreciate the storytelling. A story can be immersive by relatable it is or the memories it evokes. Another really nice episode.

I just wish that the Rakugo tales were better choreographed (tone, timing and delivery) hell Kabukichou Sherlock had better delivery overall.
But the best so far is Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

Shirara's master is behind bars? That's strange.
I mean, Shirara, someone with such a ''particular'' background, certainly wouldn't seek a lowlife rakugoka as her teacher...but I imagine there's more to the story.

Your interpretation is appropriate, but considering who or what Bunko is...

Mameda, when it comes to Rakugo, is still not capable yet, and carries Bunko on her extra weight. And this opening segment of the Higashi no Tabi a.k.a "Eastern Journey" from a neighbouring Rakugo-ka has Bunko intrigued to ask Mameda to go to the fish market to scout her out as a learning point for the tanuki. Shirara is definitely interesting to say the least for an Osaka dialect starter.

Another day goes by, and while Shirara's opening act is non-existent, it's the sudden hooligan nature that puts her on guard as she's from one of the two biggest families (Kurokoma) in the Kanto area. Mameda, so eager to rescue Shirara, puts on the Kansai rakugo act that she learnt from Shirara to put the "demons" in dancing, followed by Bunko herself giving a Rakugo act to the young Kurokuma master, convincing him to release Shirara if he cracked a smile, which he did from her charming him with his own story.

As the episode title shows: "It's The Mistakes You See, Not The Ones You Don't", and hopefully this is a learning point for Mameda to improve her Rakugo storytelling.

I didn't know rakugoka didn't write their own routines. Gotta be tough reciting old jokes to a matinee audience.

I like how soberly written this show is for a comedy. It doesn't feel compelled to push gags on us, the funny stuff happens by its own accord.

Also I can't wait for the shamisen players to get into the spotlight.

Kitsune vs yakuza - 1:0. Tho Rakuda recognized the shisho as fox demon.
Also I loved how the tanuki hypnotized those tugs to dance.
The main raguko story this week was quite morbid and funny in the same time - with a dancing corps dancing in its core.

Heh that smile trick worked perfectly. Forced the dude to self-insert into her story for some nostalgia vibes and then he played himself. Yeah, a tricky fox indeed.

Mameda being able to make the yakuza dance is so funny haha a percussion expert! Shirara just from her design shows an ojou vibe and it really followed through. She is Mameda's first human friend, so cute! I love the break cards with the characters wearing modern clothes. Mameda being immersed in the everyday to learn more about rhythm, I wonder if Bunko also trained the same way before. She is so cool and confident and beautiful :D
