LOL, i wasn't. Kishimoto admitted himself, that Naruto is inspired from HxH and YYH.

Chrollo was first mentioned in chapter 55 of HxH, which release on 23rd August, 1999. And made his debut in Chapter 71 which released at January 3rd, 2000.

Pain was Introduced in chapter 372 which released on October 15, 2007.
And bro, even if he made the one shot way earlier. It doesn't mean shit, nor does it prove that Chrollo was a knock-off of Pain. Most mangaka don't even think of an ending yet even after publishing 401 chapters

Leaving aside the fact that you don’t understand how good hisoka is as a villain, Chrollo being a rip off off pain is such a bad take lol, shows you understand neither character and compare them only in a superficial way. Besides it’s literally impossible since chrollo was introduced in HxH issue #71 which came out in the year 2000, and pain appeared for the first time in Naruto issue #372, which came out in 2007. Besides kishimoto has stated multiple times in interviews that he took a lot of inspiration from HxH, so I would reckon that the akatsuki being a tribute in concept to the phantom troupe makes A LOT more sense. Aside from that I see literally no point in comparing Chrollo and Pain, they are WAY too different.

J'ai toujours eu ce sentiment un peu étrange d'être comme extérieur à mon corps. Cette impression de flotter quelque part au dessus, ou d'être dans une salle de cinéma, assis au fond, en train de regarder un long film interminable et à attendre que quelque chose se passe. Cette impression de lutter pour devoir rester éveillé, cette envie d'attraper le personnage principal pour lui dire de se bouger, sans cependant pouvoir rien faire sans briser l'écran.

Then maybe HXH was also planned way ahead? Dude just don't go hypothetically.
And most probably Mangaka hadn't any plan for Pain because Pain was introduced in Mid of shippuden, which was sonlater of Naruto story.
