If it's done well to "enhance" or "add" to the series, good. But if it is distracting and could be a better anime without the fanservice, then I think it is unneeded. | Don't stop or neglect the story for fanservice. But don't be deterred by prudes either. But that doesn't mean it's obligatory. If you actively want to not have any nipples to prevent your audience getting distracted from the story or disrespecting the characters as sex objects, then don't draw them. But if it's just thinking people will complain, then don't hide them, people who complain about nipples are weirdos and should be ignored. Just don't throw in a five second cut, the only point of which is to have the audience gaze at them. Because that's boring, you can do two things at the same time here. |

Dunno how old the characters are supposed to be, but I'm pretty sure selling full color illustrations of Ichigo and Zero Two making out is a big no-no here from a legal PoV. Monogatari on the other hand... People are naked "just because", to feed horny teens some anime tiddies. MC is borderline assaulting little girls for the lolz, and that toothbrush scene... eeeew... And also, nipples don't automatically make people into sex objects, they're just parts of the body after all. Even though it's pretty rare in anime to have female nipples in a non-sexual shot, it definitely happens. How a character is presented depends on all sorts of details and their interactions. But that can often be a major one. |

| It's about how they present it I think. Showing nude without context? absolute bad fan service. Using context but it is common boring anime cliché? most likely disgusting. Neither mainstream nor cringe? Great. Also censoring nipple is more a censorship issue thing, not fanservice. I find that censoring nipple is really annoying. If the purpose is providing viewer with nude then go for it fully, not vaguely. Not wanting to show nude fully? then just don't show it at all since the viewer is not the target. |

| In regard the nipple thing I'm of the opinion if you are going to show breast (female OR male) show the nipple. For fanservice. For me it has a time and a place. It can be used for comedic effect, used in what is very clearly ecchi or hentai or be a part of the plot. What I don't want is bazooka bongos bouncing all over the place for absolutely no reason. Or a panty shot during a serious fight scene. |
