Angel Beats! Episode 5 Discussion

The left one not an AK derivative. Not even close. In fact, it' s certainly not Russian, and doubtful that it might even be from a Former Soviet Bloc or client nation. Russian sniper rifles, all of them, are designed very differently from this. The only other Russian option would be a very slight modification of an existing standard rifle, which again looks very little like this. Russian clients never developed anything that far from the original AKs, so that's out too.

The first thing that came to mind was a G3 SG-1 or MSG-90, but there are too many small differences upon inspection. It also bears some notable similarity to the Yugoslavian M76, but a few easily noticed discrepancies knock that out as well.
The closest match I've found is the Israeli Galil Sniper. The stock still seems a bit off, and the ones I've seen have some minor differences elsewhere, but it's the only one I know with the boxy design and distinct stampings.

The one on the right, however, is indeed the M14 DMR. No doubt about it.

Making Angel sympathetic is nothing new or surprising, but it still struck a chord with me. I really did enjoy this one. There's such a fun wackiness to the pointless acts. Though it's important that they're not actually pointless but rather events that sporadically have their connection to the unique setup reinforced. And it really is unique. The character types may be nothing new (except maybe TK), but the setting bouncing off these familiar characters catches me just fine.

On the negative side, I'm long tired of the Christ gag.

A lot of FUNNY AS HELL moments but at the end, I feel sad for Tachibana “a.k.a. Angel” Kanade. I remember during a previous episode that she said she looks like the bad guy. She only did what she had to do because of her being the student council president and because of that, she was thought as someone who is against everyone but the truth of the fact is that she only wants to be a regular person like everyone else, but also the fact that she was stripped of her social standing and moral obligation because of what they did, and also the feeling that you have nobody to talk to and trust, that HAS to be a painful blow for both Angel and the others, knowing that not only they were the ones responsible but also the ones who surfaced a much worse threat.

nice episode, far too short, showed that Tenshi isn't a robot made by god to enforce his laws. Tenshi is human.
And damn, they should have shot the 'normal students' right away!

honestly this anime is getting better and better every episode if this continues and has a great ending this might be the first 10 i rate

Yes my reaction was "Uh fire?" At least fire at Naoi , but Tachibana may have a role in his downfall

Now, despite the severe lack of memetic T.K., this is actually probably my favorite episode so far. Quite hilarious (the rocket-chair gag made me laugh all three times), and there was actually an impact when Angel went down. It's really hard to not feel sorry for her. And now I have to wait all week for the after-the-credits scene to reach a resolution. Great.

Great to see that the piano version of the OP is staying as the permanent one. Not a huge fan of the guitar-dubbed version, to be honest; the piano fits the song much better.

i felt that otonashi and tenshi will become friends sooner or later. i liked this episode because it looks like it will make progress in the show

I agree with you on this one....all three kinds are similar to the one on the left of the GIF there are just minor differences like you mentioned but it does not matter the resemblance is there.
Yeah that also I checked with pics and the muzzle along with the shape is exact. Thanks for clarifications as you can see I am a little maniac about rifles. There was someone who said it might be three so is wiki wrong?
Yeah me too....it is getting rather more annoying now. I like that spoiler.....makes you rather think more about Otonashi's story of how he died or why. School crumbled and killed him?

Though I'm usually reluctant to post my output for an episode, I couldn't help with this one. But the thing is, it's gonna sound like the past three pages of stuff that's already been said, oh well.

~The Rocket-Chair gag, oh don't we all love it? In my opinion, I kind of chuckled at first, but the replay with the ed music softly playing as the video is in slow-motion, gracefully showing each frame. It was a masterpiece that kept me rolling on the floor spilling laughter many an hour.

~Tenshi, oh mah lawd. I teared up, no joking. Seeing her reach out, unable to grasp it...just...bawww. Seeing the scene with her eating alone...Something died inside of me that will never come back ;_;. I just wanted to reach out and hug her during that scene.

*The only thing wrong in this episode, TK didn't say a single word. One simple, "Don't stop dancing!" or "Get chance and luck!" would've been enough D:

I think the rocket chair scenes are a reference to a game that came out quite recently in Japan, called 超ちゃぶ台返し！ (chou chabudai gaeshi!). You bang on a table, getting progressively angrier, and then flip it to cause as much damage as you possibly can to the surroundings.

It's absolutely hilarious to play.

After, you get to see a slow-motion reply accompanied by a soothing song called リセット　(Reset).
When I saw the first rocket chair reply I actually thought it was the same song, they sound so alike.

Thought this episode might have finally been decent, but they had to ruin it with more shitty out of tune music.

This is probably my favorite episode so far. It would be pretty interesting if Otonashi goes off and talks to angel and find out more about her.

Looks like they might regret demoting angel, seeing how the new president is.

Also, if angel is human too, why is it that she doesn't disappear being with the other students? There must be something special about her...just probably not what Yuri was thinking.

I'm really looking forward to some really emotional stuff...since the other shows I'm watching this season don't really seem to have that.

I like how you can only tell most of the characters apart by their hair colour.

Wow, this episode blew all the others out of the water for its sheer comedy value.
If the rest of the episodes are as well done as this, AB will easily be the best this season without doubt.

I always new Tachibana was a good person. She's just too cute to be a bad person. I'm so into lonely girls though; I just want to hug them and never let go.

This episode completely changed my opinion; Angel Beats is no longer horrible. This episode was completely satisfactory, even though I was constantly reminded of Haruhi, though that may be because I watched that just recently. I said it at the very beginning but I'll say it again, Tenshi is just so misunderstood.

I don't understand why people like T.K. so much... Most of you say he's awesome, but I don't see it. =/

First part of the episode is crack me up.Starting with their stupidity that they can't even know Tenshi/Kanade name.I facepalm when Yuri knew the name but not urge to remember :/
Rocket chair is effing hilarious.Man i never knew Takamatsu have that muscular body despite look like a nerd xD.....LOL at Ooyama "confession" (his voice when he's upset sound alot like Black Star).I expect Ooyama would be the next but Hinata instead XDD
Second part more serious when Kanade is demoted & Naoi take over the position.What makes even bad when her meal tickets is flying & she look so sad :(

Episode was amazing, i knew key wouldnt let me down. This will be another great anime and i cant wait for the next episode. Thanks to god,i havent read one single bad comment on this ep.

T.K did not have much screen time this ep but soon he will get his own ep (i wish )

Poor Kanade... those mean SSS members overdid it this time, but they reap what they sow now that the new prez is worse, haha. Rocket chair was actually quite funny. I like that Ooyama got a bit more screentime because I just love hearing his VA's voice. Good riddance of the rock OP, less cockroach appearances the better.
