| some say only the vocal minority say they hate the change, and I just want to confirm for myself were the majority really stands. Edit: well it's been some time now and I think the result says it all, most people don't like it, some don't care, and the small minority likes the change. MAL, you can do what you want, none of us can stop you, but this is the raw data. I hope at least you know that most people don't like it. |

| I dont really care but what is the point of adding new reactions if you dont add a dislike or not helpful button, not to mention half of the reactions are just stupid. What's the point of havving 4 or 5 different ways of saying is good? I voted the second option btw |

I think they should have kept the helpful, thing. and only added the useful reactions that give a feel for the type of review ( stuff like creative, well written, informative and funny). like why is there a loved it and a nice reaction? |

| Yes. - recommended/not recommended > score on top, since for example a 6/10 has drastically different meanings depending on the mean score of the reviewer - emojis offer more variety than just the "helpful" option; even if you want a negative reaction, this is still better than right before the update - reviews displayed on the anime details page won't be the same old ones anymore (this still needs to be implemented) - showing the username list of review votes, to make botting easily visible |

I argue that the recommend thing is flawed in a different way. some shows are not for everyone, some are bad but still entertaining, and some are boring but really good. there is a lot to gain from the score board. while I agree that the recommended is a nice addition, it is certainly not a good replacement. - I agree, but again, why not have both? as it is now, every single review made before the update is now outdated due to the fact that they will be the only ones that have 99 to 1 ration of only having the nice reactions. I think the emoji's should have been added to show what kind of review people think the reviews are. - this one can work, but they clearly haven't figured out a good algorithm that works properly yet, so I think they should put this one on hold until it's fixed - this last one is also good, but again, they haven't actually added it yet |

| I like it less, but I also disliked the old one and never read reviews anyway. I just find it ridiculous that it is basically impossible and illegal on MAL to ever criticize a review. No option for negative feedback, if you criticize them on the forums you get banned and if you go to the writer's profile it's seen as harassment. So basically MAL is telling us every review is perfect and can and should never be criticized in any capacity, which is just stupid and wrong and harmful for the review section of MAL as a whole because there is no way of rewarding quality, so the things that get rewarded are stuff like being the first one to post a review. |

| Less than the old one - that I already did not care about most of the time. Reviews just are not that useful - compared to other features. I often just wanna find animes that I might like ... using the "recomendations" feature to find similar ones. The reviews just tell me whether a reviewer liked it or not. Which is only helpful ... if they have a simliar taste than my. Or of they at least try to write about the bad/good things - both in detail. Explaining how they came to their opinion by stating facts that happen in the anime. (Maybe with examples or minor spoilers.) Just saying "the anime is pretty great cause of it's in depth characters and the good char development" ... does not really help. They could have a different taste and just liked some of the characters. I mean: For Re:Zero fans actually think the main is sooo good and it is authentic/realistic to behave like him in such situation - when I found the main super annoying and I'd expect a good/helpful review to at least describe what they mean with "realistic" . Here they mean that he is screaming a lot of times. (Which some people - like me - then might find annoying. If course I can only know this if this behavour is described in more detail. The main char screaming a lot is a fact - you probably can measure and compared that to other anime. Then people could decide for themselves if they would find this "annoying" or not.) One might easily fall into a trap - expecting reviews that are well rated to state some "facts" or stuff. When it still is only based on a taste and a person with opposite taste might describe it totally different. (More emphasizing the bad stuff less sugarcoating the good stuff.) And for all of this: Most often a wall of text to read? ... no thanks. |

| I guess I should pick the I don't care vote cause I only care about reviews in some occasions, but I'm gonna go with the second option because it's awful. Adding many reactions with emoji instead of like/dislike button is stupid and why putting the score below the review instead of above? | no one is going to give a damn about it in the long run just like the youtube dislike. It was definitely done to lockdown the massive fandom wars going on in threads since now people have to read or browse the review before seeing the reviewer score, since reviews heavily influenced people giving scores. since people spammed shows they watched with 10s and shows they didn't watch with lower scores, often based on reviewer score |

| I think it could be a step in the right direction, but I honestly prefer the old review system as of now. I really don't see the logic behind not adding a "dislike" or "not helpful" option, they should've added that. Other sites like IMDb, Goodreads, and Amazon have that for reviews, why can't MAL have that? I don't see the emoji reaction thing going anywhere, I feel like it should've been implemented as a "bonus" (or separate) feature to go along with "helpful" and "not helpful", and they could've chosen better reactions as well. This new review system just doesn't seem practical, they really should've gone with a simple like and dislike system instead. |

kyonkyonkun said: whats the difference? owo im new so idk They've hidden scores at the bottom of reviews so they aren't visible on the page, and instead replaced it with a 3 point system (Not Recommended, Mixed Feelings, Recommended), which isn't particularly useful, as both a 7/10 show and 10/10 show might be recommended, but there is an obvious difference that won't be reflected because of this. They've also removed the option to vote for a review as being helpful, and instead replaced it with facebook emojis. So now, if you want to find which reviews were voted the most helpful, you will instead see reviews that were voted "funny" "creative" or "love it" which isn't particularly useful feedback, and doesn't mean anything. Previously, when writing a review, you would be able to give seperate scores for things like animation, story, music, etc but they've removed all that. In explaining why they say: "(1) these scores weren't visible on the main view of the review (unless you knew the trick to make it appear), and (2) we found it gave writers the impression that they were required to break their reviews down into these sections, which we wanted to avoid." But for 1) you could just make them visible and 2) they could add an explanation saying it wasn't required. You can read more here https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2034720 |
