The only way for Aoi to improve now by being a defender...is by watching Kuribayashi's plays, but in the process, gets himself all disoriented in the actual plays trying to read his play lines and then imitating in his closest way possible, all to be part of the starting team in Match 3 of the Tokyo Metroopolis League.

Aoi...has to be taken out of the team for now, and Anri's hopes that what she mentions to him in her goal to be an instructor, it's technically a win-win solution. What Hana has done for Aoi, she's done for Kuribayashi many times before, the star player of the Tokyo Esperion team that wants to succeed on the world stage. Well, Hana can make him a meal plan, but only on the condition that he help Aoi with his dilemma...which after seeing him and Anri together, definitely has that jealousy that spurs the rising MC going forward no matter the circumstances that connect to the vision.

The Tokyo Esperion Youth B team are faltering, and are already at relegation level...they can't afford to be like this going forward, and even worse, playing against the top-tier Tokyo Musashino with a perfect track record in this condition...Tachibana's gonna suffer a lot mentally because that's his hometown. Aoi on the other hand, whether the team does great or poorly, although it's his business, but he's also growing by training relentlessly.

I really appreciate the friendship between Aoi, Tachibana, Ohtomo and Togashi, that despite their differences, they work together as one. And this time, it's returning that has old friends come back like Nakano and Kaneda who's immediately scouted by their Manager Satake, though this time, it's blood fueled for intensity against the chosen vs. the rejects.

Old friends coming back for a feud, that always never ends well.

I wasn’t expecting a love triangle so soon lol. Haven’t seen Hana and Ashito together in awhile so I bet the next time they chat they’ll either get an understanding of each other feelings and maybe reconcile. The OP teases it a bit.

A reunion with two brother in arms from the Esperion tryouts. Kaneda already hates Aoi and his friends and blames them for failing tryouts lmao. Typical. Trash scrub blames others for his choking during the tryouts.

It’s all good tho. This is just more motivation and ammunition for MC and his team to beat them.

Next episode is gonna be mad hype

So that's what Kuribayashi does huh? Moving his head back and forth like that to basically just keep an eye on everything. I appreciate Aoi trying his best to learn that “basic” technique, even if he was initially struggling to understand what to look for at first. He's really putting in his best effort to not be a burden, doing those basic drills like 10,000 times or whatever over a month. Even if it's not a position he wants to play, he’s not sulking anymore. He’s really showing some growth! I’m pretty proud of him.  I also like that Aoi's more aware of his ability. That was a great pass to Ohtomo, even he knew that. He just needs to know how to utilize that ability more consciously. He knows it's related to this concept of "vision" at least.

I'm glad someone else recognizes the work Hana puts into those menus. Big honor to be making a specialized meal plan for a pro! I appreciate her looking out for Aoi and (almost) asking Kuribayashi to give Aoi pointers, though I feel like there's gonna be some misunderstanding after seeing him with Anri. Then again, it looks like Anri's got a little crush after that one on one coaching session so maybe she sensed something there lol.

Looks like this ep Tachibana is feeling the pressure. It's interesting he said he wanted to learn to be more like Aoi considering how Aoi's been acting and playing up until recently, but I guess his hard work and his perseverance is being noticed. He might sulk, but he always ends up getting his shit together in the end. I get where Tachibana is coming from though, about wanting to come back when he's made it. He takes the game seriously, I respect that about him. He's a good character!

Musashino has a pretty good streak going, they'll be a tough opponent for sure. Nice to see Nakano made it somewhere, though I wasn’t as pleased to see Kaneda. Like bro, you didn't fail because you got too chummy. You failed because you were ass during the tryouts. Don't blame the others because you fucking choked. You don’t see Ohtomo or Tachibana bitching and they were pretty friendly from the start.

I did have one question from this episode: Is relegation like elimination from the league? Or does it just mean they kinda move down in ranking, so they play at a lower tier?

Evil! Just when I thought the romantic relationship is set in the stone, because there's no need for a complicated love story in a sports anime right? But suddenly I see a couple switch in this episode. What's more, it seems like only women side realized what's going on in the affair, while men side, like Aoi and Kuribayashi are too busy focusing on soccer.

Kuribayashi is so hot to the point that I'll consider every conversation with him as flirting. Even the old fat Esperion hardcore fan gave a kiss at him (that fan might represents me LOL), which Kuribayashi humbly accept. Just like his habit of turning his head, Kuribayashi is "unconsciously" flirting all the time, and it's so smooth just like his passing ball skill.

I'm actually surprised at how good Anri is at soccer skill, and this is not just analysis skill, she's kicking the ball for real. In fact I kinda expect Aoi to be more surprised at her. On a positive side, I might think about this as Aoi doesn't discriminate against female when it comes to soccer skill, like he expect everyone to be good at soccer whatever gender it is, unlike Togashi, who at first put his guard against woman on a soccer topic.

It seems like both Aoi and Kuribayashi (and possibly Anri's childhood friend Motoki) don't realized there's a cloud of girls' tension surround them. And that's good, they should only focus on soccer, especially when the youth team is about to lose the tournament. There's no time for messing around with woman. Though I suspect it's just because generally male are interesting in enter a relationship at the later age than female. And you too, Takeshima, just break up with your girlfriend already! You claim to do your best defending a goal, but the fact that the team is still lose shows that your best is not enough.

Now let's move to another topic, the tournament's recent result is interesting, you can see that top two positions are soccer club, while the third position is highschool, which confirm that soccer club is still have more advantage than school club, despite of what Akatsu claim that school players are mentally stronger. But this might be because of Musashino's new manager that reform the club. Musashino gives me an "underdog" feeling, many sports anime usually focus on a weaker club that comprised of losers so when it wins it'll give the audience the "giant killing" feeling. But Esperion is already a strong club, a world-renowned club, dare I say, so I'll have to see how they'll fare off. But now there are many sports anime that have protagonist in a strong team, like Ace of Diamond, or even the currently airing on the same day "Love All Play", so I can make a comparison with ease.

It might not be fair to Tachibana if I'm not talking about him because this is definitely his episode. My boy, poor boy, you can see him getting anxious, his emotional unstability, he's about to burst it out to Aoi but Ootomo and Togashi interrupt them first. He's about to find out the disadvantage of not having Aoi as a forward. When Aoi was playing forward, Aoi's the one to blame if mistake happen, and even when Aoi is defend everyone is still blame him. But when Aoi is on the bench, no one can blame him anymore. So Tachibana make himself a target because he's playing forward. But I think the captain of this team (I forget his name, or can't remember his name, not even sure if he's captain) declare that the team is not seeking for a blame culture. Good for him, good for the team. But in the end results matter so they're still in a dangerous position. And Tachibana might afraid of losing a forward position to Aoi if the coach decide to put Aoi back in forward position, Tachibana might even afraid of the worst outcome, which is to go straight to a bench, losing starter position. So he look at Aoi, the one that lose everything, yet still practice like crazy, not losing a spirit of trying.

My personal advice for Tachibana is that, soccer is not the game that punish mistake, there are so many choice, many decision available inside and outside the field, and almost all of them are mistakes, even the top level players are not executing the best play in their every action, so players should not fear of making a mistake. In fact, soccer is a sports that reward the attempt to breakthough, the action of new thing, so don't stop trying, as long as you try and you try you might produce ten mistakes, hundred mistakes, but it needs just one correct answer to lead to the goal. And you won't find that answer if you're too afraid of trying a new thing.

Talking about soccer itself, I feel like there are so many basic knowledge, while they're worth to learn, not all of them are worth trying, especially if you're not good at doing that or it doesn't lead to a better result. So I'm kinda doubt if Aoi need to copy skill from Kuribayashi, because everyone is different. Just like Hana's nutrition plan, everyone has his own diet. I'm afraid Aoi might end up as "Jack of all trades, master of none". He should polish his own weapon as sharp as possible instead. With that said, I still don't realize what's Aoi weapon.

While I said "soccer", I still think the correct term is football. I said soccer because this anime said soccer (Japan prefer this term) and to avoid confusing American reader, they have their own football.

Relegation means they will go to a lower tier league in the next season. If that happens, they would need to be at the top of the table of that lower tier league to return to their current one.

As always its great to have Ashito learn more and more even from the slightest possible way, not to mention how his expression reflects well into something that i can call it 'fun'.

The drama with Hana and Kuribayashi healthy menu side quest, kinda expected, but never knew its also involved innocent Anri into the circle, lol. Still, i don't worry much about it, as long they can keeping it cool, focused onto their own objectives, especially to Anri, everything'll be alright again, without expanding it much inside a jaded drama vortex. Then again, if it's become one of it, i couldn't complain much about that!

Next. How cliche was it, when the team receives all the bad result after the protag's gone xd, and then for another addition, the old friends becomes a new big enemies onward. Focus differentiate a little to Tachibana there, and i truly curious how its plays out for the next episode installment. Let's see....

Man.. Can they really not just focus on the main sport rather than fucking forming a love triangle and an useless rivarly in the end. These two parts made me dislike the episode by a lot.

Kuribayashi really went all out in order to find Hana and ask he to make a meal plan for him. Well, she accepted it without hestitation because Aoi was together with Anri. This moment was the worst and it's just feels so fucking useless to form some kind of misunderstanding so Hana would be less focused on Aoi and kinda ignore him.

I never expected Anri to be good at football. She isn't just all talk but she's able to do more than that. Aoi was pretty amazed by it because Anri didn't just kick the ball and looked left/right but tried to spot things which Aoi didn't do.

Esperion Youth team is on a losing streak which put a lot of pressure on Tachibana because he doesn't score as the forward. Mentioning Aoi made him even think more about "what if Aoi was here, would it go differently?". Othome changed the topic in a second, you can call him a true friend for that.

Aoi's training while the rest are in a meeting because he wouldn't have contributed a lot to the meeting because the mf ain't even on the bench. Well, he sure doesn't sulk and works hard but everything feels to fast paced. A week before, he felt like he wanted to commit neckrope but he just can't because a lot of different aspects.

Musashino's team improved by a mile thanks to the new Coach. The old try-outs got scouted by him. Nakano and Kaneda, one of them is still the same as before but the other one is a sweaty person. Holy shit, his face expression was actually scaring and he's really looking out for revenge.

That turning one own's head is called scanning in football. Many top players did this scanning in consistent basis every game. You could guess the one who did it the most. Yeah it is Xavi again, about 0.83 scans per second on average in a full game. When Xavi was asked about it he replied that whenever he enters a room, he always analyze how the chairs, table, etc were placed. He did it in reflex so he can sit in a place where he can see the whole room. Ashito himself mentioned that it's something that has been taught to him ever since a kid. You can expect they have a similar habit too.

Relegation is indeed moving down to a lower ranked league in all professional football league’s this is the case (in my country the Netherlands also in the amateur league’s this is the case). Except for the mls in the usa were you could just buy a club and never have the risk of relegation seems like a exciting competition….

Aoi is trying is darndest to adapt to this new role he's been given. Watching those videos of Kuribayashi seeing how he operates and plays that same position. Kuribayashi constantly moving his head to see the whole field and where his teammates are. Aoi trying that himself to not so great success, other than that final pass to Otomo. There's some potential in Aoi playing full back with his high level of field vision but he still has ways to go. Being aware of the ball while also being aware of you're teammates and aware of your opponents all at the same time isn't easy. Its something that will take lots of hard work even with Aoi innate talent. Some blast from the past right as we end the episode. These guys over at Musashino are the real deal, leading the league while Esperion flounders at the bottom. Couple of guys we saw a while ago returning in Kaneda and Nakano. Both having massively different reactions to seeing our main boys again.

Aoi continues to struggle at defender, but that's because he's missing another crucial element in his game and that's constantly moving your head around to see where everybody is at. This takes a lot of situational awareness which is something that Aoi is struggling to grasp. Anri comes by to recommend a basic drill that help Aoi get into a habit of consistently turning his head while moving with the ball. Anri seems to be pretty good with her ball control herself as she starts to develop feelings for Aoi creating a possible love triangle between Aoi, Anri, and Hana. Hana on the other hand has been tasked with creating meal plans for star player Kuribayashi. The B team is not doing so well as they lost four matches in a row in the Tokyo Metro League and Aoi can't do anything about it since he's been forced to sit out those games. Tachibana feels the pressure of being the forward and wishes he could be like Aoi who is always positive. This next match will be personal as the B team will have to face the top dog in the Tokyo Metro League Tokyo Musashino featuring Kanada and Nakono who failed in the Esperion tryouts.

No, they're playing in the U-18 Tokyo Metropolis League 1, so they'd be relegated to League 2.

Its great to see some progression to Hana's dream of being a nutritionist with Kuribayashi asking her for a meal plan. Her plotline is the second best in the show.

Aoi's perspective on how he feels after a match was pretty interesting. He FEELS like he's the one who decides whether the team loses or wins, which I assume is probably going to be important as the future playmaker of the team.

Looks like Kaneda got bad beef with Ashito huh...so hostile the moment that they saw each other! damn!

Yes yes! Ashito is improving his analyzing ability and the episode didn't only focus on Ashito himself but on characters like Tachibana and Anri as well, will be interesting to see if the other characters are also going to be fledged out and how Aoi is going to do in real matches as a defender.

lol that ending made me remember Fukuda's word during the tryouts, time to eat his words haha
"if you pass these tryouts you will work with us. if you don't pass, use this experience to become better and then come laugh at us for not noticing you"

the part between aoi and anri were interesting, same for hana with kuribayashi

aoi trying hard to learn the vision trick and is even learning while watching the match from the sidelines, how the boy has changed lol that abeing said, since he is so distracted during training, he doesn't even get to sit on the bench

lastly, damn the team without some of it's players, like aoi, kuroda, asari and others who left the team, are really doing badly, 2nd last place after 6(?) matches, even after that super cool win on the 1st match when aoi was learning the triangle

It won't damage the football aspect don't worry. The mangaka knows that too, and is just having a simple romance side to his story so it is more intersting and probably for selling merch

Tachibana doesn't know Aoi carries a heavy burden always. Aoi can put a front and no one would believe he's really struggling. He always take things upon himself and dribble them with a smile and positivity.

I want to punch Kuribayashi on his perfect face for potentially messing up the things between Aoi and Hana.

Dude, he's 100% only thinking about how to improve his own performance, lol.

So Ashito is now trying to master the 'head turning' which Kuribayashi does subconsciously. Anri's providing him tips to achieve this. She seems to be falling for him too. (O_O)

Oh, hell naw bruh. Hana is getting the wrong idea. She doesn't know much about football and can't help Ashito with it, whereas Anri can give him a lot of advice. And this might be making her feel distant from Ashito.

Yes! Finally, my boy Tachibana getting some spotlight.

Damn, Nakano and Kaneda are back in the plot. And they'll be Esperion's opponents in the next match! At least Nakano isn't salty about the selection. Kaneda is being a baby fr. Imagine being pissed at others due to your poor performance.

Now I'm hyped for the match. I wonder if Aoi will be brought back into the team during the second half of the game with Musashino.

loool that kaneda guy blaming them for failing the try outs, but them playing well together is probably what got him and the other guy scouted by the other team? Looking forward to the match against them anyway. I just know Tachibana is gonna score against his old team. Hopefully Kaneda realises the truth of his scouting and try-out failure and can be friendly with his try-out brothers in arms again after the game, although if Esperion win it could make him even more bitter.

I do prefer Aoi x Hana over the new girl.

I'm starting to think Nozomi actually sucks at being a coach. Dude doesn't appear during the team meetings and can barely give advices to Ashito when the kid practically begs for them.

And also LMAO at the Kaneda kid blaming Ashito and co. for his incompetence at the tryouts. Kid was sweating like a pig and out of breath but of course it's all Ashito's fault smh.

Time to add a whole new genre besides the already available sports one.

Also yeah blame Aoi and co. for your incompetence, because why not.

No! No god please no! No love triangle! Don't do this to Hana, she's gone through so much already and been so kind. Please no. Oh god I think I'm gonna be sick.

Anyway, "Look up" Is such an important fundamental process for any soccer player but it's true that, while simple, it's kind of hard to master. It's really easy to get tunnel vision focused and loose sight of everything around you.

Kind of like how Kaneda lost sight of what it means to not be a total dick wad. Like geeze dude, simmer down. Just say hi like a normal person and be on your way.

For real though the world of sports truly is Cut Throat and not everyone can come out on top. For every Lionel Messi or Aoi there are hundreds of thousands of skilled and dedicated players who just didn't make it.

Let's get some Fs in the chat for all the Kanedas of the world.

This episode felt really long, I love that.

That's a bit meta, but I since the tryouts I was thinking that Kaneda's design was too detailed for someone that would never appear again on the show.

I come from a different sport, but there's research that shows that the more input seniors/coaches give to juniors, the less they tend to think for themselves, which can be seen as a problem on its own.

Fair enough but if the boy willingly asks you for advices for this new position he was forced to adopt, the least you can do as a coach is to give him some sort of basic guide to follow.
I'm not saying Nozomi should stay by Ashito's side every time he gives a pass but come on, the boy is lost af and was just asking for some hints.
