Because it’s cringe.
I personally think thats why people(include me)watch this and also love it in the first place but many people just hate the cringe factor of the series so that’s why they hate it.

I couldn't get through the first episode. It's so cringe. I get the concept and that's not what bothers me. It's the characters, they are just bland and trash, every single one of them even the MC. Then again I've only watched one episode but there were so many better series airing at the same time.

I personally don’t dislike it. It’s fun and full of drama. But i think it failed to deliver its original proposal. As a romantic open minded viewer, i can believe everything but the situations brought squalor in my heart. So it failed with me. But it was a nice try! I don’t mind the “cringe factor” because the author wrote it to make you feel embarassed, so it’s actually a plus

They say it's cringe, but it's actually the absolute opposite of cringe. This anime is a parody of the harem genre. It's the one making fun of the harem tropes, it's making fun of dense MC and it's making fun of bland heroines. This anime is based af.

It's one of the few anime where I can confidently say the haters really didn't understand the anime.

I consider cringe something that is both unrealistic and less interesting than reality.

Is Kanojo mo Kanojo unrealistic? Definitely yes. Not because the girls are openly accepting two-timing, but because they're fighting over an average nice guy.

Is it less interesting than reality? I think it's one of the funniest anime ever so I don't consider it cringe and not even a guilty pleasure, but I understand that for those who don't find it particularly interesting, it fits all the requirements to be considered cringe.

P.S. In the couple of years I've been on MAL forum, I've never seen any other anime rated below 7.00 getting so much love as this one.

well, other than the fact that it is boring af, no one likes tsundere tropes and yet producers think it’s still a good trope to put in ( and if u do like tsundere id really like a reason why - especially taiga- taiga is the most annoying tsundere i’ve seen). there's a lot that people can hate.

a) it's a harem, that's reason to hate it for some people
b) chars are loud, that can be really annoying
c) jokes are hit or miss, you either find it really funny or really cringe
d) "It's trash", because the show is stupid because of it's writing and stuff
and those are the reasons i can think of why people hate it

This is a great description. Because i think that the “cringe motivation”, (i don’t want to offend anyone), is poor because it’s more a problem the person has, to stay in those situations the author wanted to be, to enjoy them. That’s actually the spiciness of the show. I think the real problem is the “trash factor”. The author didn’t manage to make a believable convenient harem (with all the fantasy you can add) but it was just forced drama that made the characters sad.

Honestly? For the same reason comedies never win Oscars, added to the fact that many people couldn’t even realize that it’s not the genre they thought it was. It’s not a trashy harem slice of life romance, it’s a comedy with a capital C and a great one at that. It’s a outrageous situational teen sex comedy like Ranma 1/2 and American Pie, with more ‘culture’ than the former and funnier than the latter. I love it to death and I wish they would dub it so I’d have a reason to drop what I’m doing and rewatch it immediately

I kinda think that the hate that this show gets is kinda unnecessary even though it’s a trashy harem show there’s a lot to like about it at least the jokes in this show is funny unlike Aho Girl which was the creator’s previous work. All I got to say is this even though it’s not the best adaptation I still say I would honestly recommend it for anyone who likes harem anime in general but I say read the manga instead.

Honestly from what I can tell its due to people for some reason taking the show at completely face value even though it's clearly a comedy and isn't trying to be taken seriously. Basically these people keep bringing up that "it's not realistic" without even considering is that what the original author is even going for.

if i were to be specific, i find the mc very unpleasant because of how he do things, the red hair girl is annoying asf esp the generic and typical tsundere character, the black hair girl is too fucking obnoxious as she literally likes to blackmail, the blonde girl is also annoying, the white hair girl is idk, she didint got enough screentime in anime but fs shes not as annoying as mentioned

I personally don't have a thing for this show (those who love this show srly need help)
This show is really cringe-cringe there are soo many things we can hate on this I'll not mention them... I gave this show a 6/10 (good rating for something like this) ...The comedy I don't remember ever smiling/ or cracking up on a single thing while watching this , some ppl may find it but I don't know why and I don't want to know either...
won't be surprised if I recommend this to a veteran or newbie and they deciced to drop it after couple of episodes ( like really there are soo many better ones out there)

It's a comedy show so it's really subjective. I personally didn't like it because the comedy was not funny,. and because of the MC I really don't like him, he is not funny, he is cringe and he's too selfish. So yeah globally I hate this show

People had certain expectations, and the show didn’t meet them. Like, if you don’t enjoy harem comedy, or don’t expect cringe moments, or hate tsundere characters, or easily predict and hate cliches etc etc, why the fuck are you watching this show in the first place? Just to drop after 1 episode and ride the hate train? It’s obviously a show that is of these traits and is not to be taken seriously. This is the case for every single anime — people expect stuff that is obviously not to be expected, then hate on the show for not delivering. Some haters are just straight up dumb, it’s mind-boggling.
Anyway, I really liked it.

look, this show isnt great. In fact calling it good is a bit of a stretch even. But man was it fun. If you go into a bottom of the bin series like this one and your expectations aren't to just turn off your brain and enjoy it then you probably haven't been watching anime for very long.

This is a bit off topic but bear with me. Rent a girlfriend on the other hand tries to have a tiny amount of character depth and growth in a setting where that doesnt work at all. That show should be about stupid shenanigans but it tries to do more and that doesnt work at all for it. the cringe is absolutely constant and never ends.

Basically if you make series based on either cheating on your gf, renting a gf, becoming a polygamist, etc. What you need to do is to REMOVE THE REAL WORLD ELEMENT! Theres alot of horrible, depressing and even abusive baggage that comes with those topics. You either need to embrace them thus creating a serious story or reject those elements to create a fun filled show filled with ridiculous shenanigans. This is why Girlfriend girlfriend works and rent a girlfriend does not.

I would like to see another season of this because the premise is just stupid fun and I expect no more than that from this anime.

I really liked most of this show so I am answering for other people but... This series has a lot of divisive elements which managed to chip off a lot if its potential viewerbase. It is a harem series...divisive. it features full on polygamy...divisive. It features extremely lowbrow comedy...divisive. Character depth and common sense are sacrificed at the altar of wacky comedy. Some people don't like this, and some don't even recognize it as intentional so it throws them off.

OK. I will be honest. When I heard about this show, I thought it might be good. It went to about 4 episodes. I even laughed a few times. But then the story was... Well... Boring and it was getting cringe. Since the 5th episode, I've been looking forward to it with NOT so much enthusiasm. And later. I think the last 4 episodes I have literally begged God to end it. I finished it, at the ending I was screaming: PLEASE NO 2 SEASON! PLEASE! And that's the end of it.

It was good at the beggining, but then it got CRINGE!
