Kadokawa's Newtype magazine has confirmed that Stan Lee (Spider-Man and X-Men creator) is working with the animation studio BONES on a new animated television series tentatively called Hero Man. The story will center on a boy named Joey who discovers a toy robot near the west coast of the United States. Then, the toy becomes Hero Man, a giant robot that Joey pilots against evil threats.

Interesting combination. Hope something good turns out (it's Stan Lee and it's Bones after all). Although the short plot line preview sounds so incredibly cliche. But it's obviously the dumbest thing ever to judge something with only 2 lines.

I'm very intrigued by the premise of the project. I know what I'm getting from a show produced by BONES, all that's left is how Stan Lee does on his end.

Doesn't he have some project with Hiroyuki Takei as well? Pretty active for an 85-year-old.

The title sounds like no thought was put into it and the plot sounds very cliche, I guess we'll just have to see how this turns out.

For some reason it reminds me of "The Iron Giant". So is this going to be an anime or an american cartoon?

I'm not a fan of those american cartoons so .. no. This is something I definitely won't watch. The retarded name "Hero Man" is more than enough for me to be sure about that. :|

Why do most American cartoon names or hero names always have to end with "man"?? Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Ironman or if you like Wonderwoman. Now we have Hero Man...............come on....>_>

Hero man gets recalled in the series. =P

Joking aside, this is very similar to Iron Giant like everyone else said. >_>; I liked that film so I'll keep in mind about this series, but if it ends up too Superhero-y then I'm going to drop it. >_< I didn't like Superhero shows.

I'm with the general consensus - while it sounds really lame, given the people involved it could turn out to be pretty great. Some of the best animes I've ever watched sounded ridiculously bad when boiled down to a several line synopsis.

boring...and to tell you the truth, i don't think stan lee is right in the head....
"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

Everyone keeps making comments about the name, but you need to keep in mind that it's just tentative, meaning they could easily change it at any time, and in all likelihood will.

As for the story, as has been mentioned, you can't really judge it based on two lines of description, especially this early in the process. That said, I'm looking forward to this. I love superheroes, and have great respect for Stan Lee, even if he isn't exactly known for a lack of camp in his work.

lets take a few popular shows down to a 1-2 line description.

Code Geass: "A pissed prince meets a weird chick whos is sponsored by piza hut who gives him an eye that lets him make ppl do what he wants"

Chii' sweet home: "A story about a little kitten who does misc things"

Lovely Complex: "a tall chick and a short guy and their zany antics"

Gundam xxxx: "Big robots fight each other while the bulk of the main cast is decimated

you cant tell anything from that

Main cast being decimated? Too much Zeta Gundam for you.

Also... I'm going to watch it. It involves some good 'ol American patriotism.

not all american cartoons are bad, kim possible (yes, i know its a kiddie show) is much better than many extremely crappy anime shows i've seen that were intended for the same age range. also there is the possiblity that things will go the other way (ex: avatar), though i do hope that the lolicon stuff never leaves the shores of nippon.

btw, i also think that hero man is just a working title and would be shocked if it wasn't changed before the show actually aired. i'm more upset by the idiotic art design of the robot, i'd rather gouge out my eyes than watch a show with that as the hero. unless ofc it was a parody show, then it might be alright... maybe.

Hmmmm, This reminded me of Afro Samurai. Mixing elements from US and Japan may not be a good idea. They dont mix well.

With Stan Lee, it could be a success like Avatar!
But lets see.....

I don't see how an American writer is going to affect the art style. Also, anime=cartoons.

Good old Stan "The Man" Lee, for a guy whose turning 86 at the end of this year he's still got a lot going on in that head of his!
