Thank you for the reply! So I take it the 2016 berserk adaption was just awful? You mentioned it is the sequel. Does that mean that after the events of the 1998 series the 2016 adaption picks up what happens next? Thanks again.

Yes,it is a direct sequel,the problem lies in the abominable CG and direction,U should read the manga,or even leave it as it is,2016 anime will provide nothing but disappointment. U are welcome. :3

Only watch the 1997 anime and read the manga the 2016 series is a sequel to the 3 Golden Age movies but anything after the 1997 anime isn’t worth watching

The last 30 min or so of the last movie continued what the 1998 version didn't complete, and I highly recommend watching those movies because of the beautiful CGI and because nothing was being censored which is an important aspect for Berserk's adaptation

The last of the 3 movies is actually pretty great imo but the first 2 are just the 97 anime but worse. As for 2016 it will ruin such a great story for you, even if you don't like reading I urge to read the Berserk manga or just leave off where 97/movie 3 leaves off.

Sadly the author Kentarou Mirura, an icon in the industry, passed away at the age of 54 on the 6th of May 2021, He will be dearly missed. R.I.P

The 1997 anime adaptation is the only good Berserk anime. The 2016 version is trash. Honestly if you wanna experience a true masterpiece old strongly recommend you read the manga it's legit a 100/10. I'd recommend jumping right into the manga either right now, or after you watch the anime...

This series (1997) and the movies cover the golden age arc of the manga where everything begins. Yes it's called the golden age, meaning all he'll breaks loose only after the golden age arc ends. if you think this anime is dark, you have quite the ride in store for you, Trust me read the manga and you'll understand...

The movies are recaps I view them overall as optional only the 3rd movie contains content not in the 1997 Berserk but I personally would just recommend watching the 1997 anime and then reading the manga from beginning to end.

The movies aren’t recaps. They’re just remakes. They don’t offer anything new though, so there’s no need for you to watch it. You only watch the 1997 version of anime and then start the manga from the beginning.

1997 follows the manga pretty well and the movies are just recaps with a lil bit of skull knight in it. though i wouldn't waste your time with it. the 2016 and 17 ver are visual cancers. I'd say read the manga but from the beginning cos there's a few parts that are missed for obvious reasons

The "modern" animation in this case is uglier though, so I wouldn't watch the trilogy for the animation either.
