| Volume 6, Chapter 16: Volume 6 was a good volume, but it shows that the author is trying to wrap up the story sooner rather than later. It's understandable considering the author almost died years ago and probably still doesn't have the best health. It's pretty absurd that one of the great powers only has two systems of actual worth; one has their military industrial complex and the other is the political center. It would stand to reason that a lose confederation of planets would have military industrial assets spread out throughout the entire country because each state would want to have some military capacity. Add in how the military of a second major power was all but wiped out and this one volume reduced the enemy combatants by half. It was also disappointing to see Jint and Lafier not have the opportunity to interact a great deal. It makes sense considering we see how busy Lafier is, but their relationship was a key part to the charm of the early stories in this series. A question that hasn't really been addressed is how is the Empire ensuring new royalty and nobility is born if so much is committed to fighting? I hope the next novel comes out soon and that the author is able to write an appropriate conclusion to this extremely interesting science fiction series. |
