Each year mankind spends billions of dollars feeding cows, chickens, and pigs to just stand around and breed. We kill them young so they don't spend one moment of their lives in pain and agony, all of their lives are in Perfect Heaven. In addition to this, we have perfected pesticides to allow grasses like corn, wheat, and barley to grow without molestation their species. We have couped democratically elected governments so that bananas can grow in peace and harmony in perfect conditions.

All of this is done with Human sweat and blood. The animals and plants are free-loading off of Humans getting Heaven on Earth while we don't.

How do we stop this?
Die like you did by the lake on Naboo.

But- I mean we kinda- nevermind. I have been jebaited.

Pesticides are kinda fucking over the bee population across the globe, which is pretty concerning since agriculture relies heavily on pollination by bees.

Stop the oppression of bees.

Raze the farms and return to hunting and gathering. Swarms of hunter-gatherer drones stripping the landscape of berries and small animals.

Bees are rather dumb, though. They are the literal definition of simps. Not only they all share a single female that they call "queen" (you can't make this up), they haven't even learned how to have sex with her without dying in the process. Cockroaches, on the other hand, have a nice hookup culture, and surprisingly, I don't see them on the extinction list.

Now that you mention it...
I wish we had a way to utilise human simps for free labour.

Good luck with that. I don't blame simps at all for getting jaded when their efforts bear no fruit. I guess if they were lobodomized so they couldn't come to that conclusion but I'm not in favor of lobodomizing anybody.

Oh I'm just taking the piss, I feel kinda bad for simps. We're the products of our circumstances, and some things clearly went wrong for those who become simps.

That's only honey bees tho and that's small percentage of bees. Solitary bee species don't die after sex, they live their single life fucking around. They are more important to wheat cultivation tbh than honey bees that usually are used in fruit and berry plantations. Bumblebees are used in greenhouses and then they die, if anyone wonders.

I know this is a joke thread, but I wanna answer anyways ;p

Well, you don't do it overnight.

You have to change the direction of industrial development towads... the very opposite.

Where you have people coming to big cities consuming tons of food they don't produce, have them go to rural areas instead to replace machines.

Yes, it won't be as productive and require a lot of human labour.

Which is precisely the point.

The economy needs to go down, not up.

If we keep chasing economic growth forever, might as well start learning to digest concrete, cause the fertile land will be fucking gone under it at some point.

The urban spread needs to stop and give way to modern agriculture, the modern agriculture be replaced by labor intensive one (with smaller and more diverse patches of land divided among people), and this one slowly be transformed into a mixed field with more trees and non cultivable parts.

This requires a TON of work.

Well guess what, the West lacks jobs, as it happens.

If you pay your labour a decent wage and get them to be in those areas breathing some fresh air while doing honest hard work, I bet your ass a lot of people will be in.

Problem is : it's not profitable this way, capitalists prefer machines that don't ask for any payment and never complain, that's why they got us out of the field in the 19th century and put us in the coal mines instead, fueling some of those dear machines.

Well, fuck profitability then.

Let's just take the land and get those fuckers out, we'll see how long they keep being profitable while they can't eat.

If you want a reversal in industrialisation of agriculture (and the urbanisation that is made possible because of it), you need to root out the logic that created it in the first place : mercantilism.

We need to stop to think about food as consumer products, but as basic needs, human rights to defend.

We produce more than enough (most of it just for our cows we slaughter like some fordist barbarians), and waste half of it anyways, so even getting free of the optimal economist logic isn't that much of an issue.

So, in short :

1. Create lots of organic farms worked by decently paid manual labour, ensure their job by the State and their pay by taxes (I bet many of you don't like those words one bit ;p)

2. Encourage short production and distribution circuits, get out of the globalization madness that's moving a couple of bananas from the other side of the planet to let it rot on western shelves. Thus, more taxes ;p

3. Incite farmers to diversify their production. With taxes.

4. Reduce carbon heavy production. Carbon tax.

5. More taxes. Just to make the economy crash ;p

It's not perfect I know, but you get the idea : a production that's driven by need and not blind capitalism.

Bee movie would have had completely different ending if this guy was the main character. We all know he'd get that woman.

1. Organic agriculture is still heavily depended on animal husbandry and energy industry's waste. Idealization of small farms is kind of, hmm, sounding something urban living person would do. Unless the farmer decides to go for different cultivation method (in which case you don't necessarily need that many labor workers) or specialize in some crop I really doubt the production would be that big to support larger community and have enough for nation's stock.

2. I'd say more of an issue is customers' habit of "needing" vegetables, berries and fruits that aren't available in specific season. But since there is demand we have greenhouses to grow cucumbers in middle of winter. So imo most of responsibility and ball to change things is in the hands of customers.

3. You need to be more specific by what you mean by diversifying production. Biodiversity? More varieties? Crop rotation? Or all of them. Farmers aren't the only key to these things, since quite many farmers at least what I know would do it (since studies have shown it is financially better option), but also seed supplies, customers and legislation. How taxing would help this issue is a mystery to me tho.

4. Country where I live has already this. It working in countries with lower income and where technology is older I have my doubts.

5. Last time economy crashed here in bigger scale many people opted for suicide and tons of small farms went bankrupt. Didn't have the effect of stopping urbanization really, unless you image whole society collapsing maybe then.

I'd say you have too positive image of people actually enjoying and wanting to work those "lesser" jobs in the field. At least I'm not jumping in joy when there's a heat wave.

I don't have any "image" mister.

I just worked my ass off in that very job those last weeks ;)

So when I say it's honest hard work and that some people will love it, I know it is the case.

Period.

Agriculture is essential for humanity so no real solution exists, but there is a solution to maintain a food supply for populations by limiting birth rates.

You may ;)

I was working here :

Work was about getting the ground ready for plantation, so lots of weeding out and rocks removals with the hoe, which was a ton of work and enough to build a bit of muscle in a couple of weeks from the stuff, then putting some tarp to protect it from new weed before planting some tomatoes that were growing in the nursery.

Loved it ;)

Next time someone makes some baseless assumption about my reality, I may make a bet with them, with MAL stupid doubtful mindset I'd get filthy rich in no time ;p

Really just allowing biodiversity to thrive and eating more varied foods from local sources. It's not sustainable everywhere but some places that would be. Non native species that are fitting with the climate zone can be used for agriculture reducingt he workload greatly in that they thrive in those areas.
