Do you think this anime has the potential to become a popular sports anime with a huge fanbase like Haikyuu?! I haven't read the manga so I leave the question for manga readers.

The quality is good enough, but it definitely isn’t receiving much popularity. Blue lock will def top this.

It's a good series but I don't see it becoming that popular especially on the level of Haikyuu.
Smth like Blue Lock is more likely to be popular like Haikyuu.

Ao Ashi is way better than Blue Lock imo.

Huh.. the quality is very good, but popularity-wise it's an uphill battle.

Haikyuu! is a Weekly Shonen Jump title, the flagship shonen magazine. Aoashi is a Big Comic Spirits title, a seinen magazine (still pretty big tho.). Haikyuu has way more mainstream reach.

I do hope that it becomes popular enough to warrant a sequel, though.

would have preferred if it's the same studio that handles KnB and Haikyuu but it still too early to judge base on the trailer of blue lock it looks decent and 8bit studio did Tensura so yeah its still too early to judge

Idk, the story is pretty enjoyable so far but I feel like the animation is just not there. Maybe Haikyuu has spoiled me but I find myself looking for those slow motion slams and them smoking balls only to find a slow ball casually going into a goal. I do like the main character and even some of the side characters but I can’t get over the lackluster animation.

Unfortunately this is probably the best you could've gotten. It's unrealistic to expect Hikyuu!! level production on any show anywhere as Haikyuu!! is an anomaly and such TV production will probably not be repeated in the near future, if ever. Sport shows, especially the dynamic ones with contact and whatnot like football are incredibly tough to pull off, add to that probable 2 cour length and a fucked up state of the anime industry to make it even harder. This show, while not a spectacle is still more or less competently produced, so far. You will see what I am talking about when Blue Lock comes out and almost certainly ends up looking worse than this one.

Ao Ashi has a lot of potential, i havent read the manga, but it wont get near haikyuu level there is no way.

Even Blue Lock will have more buzz than this despite being a shit series, its only good for people who dont watch football

One of the best definitely. Popularity doesn't always mean good. I know a lot of popular sports series but is totally trash. Ao Ashi is truly a masterpiece specially the manga. And more people will see that in the future.

I did read the manga and I literally couldn’t put it down. If I had to personally rate it, it would be Haikyuu, then Ao Ashi, and then Kuroko’s basketball. Ao Ashi has that realism that Haikyuu had. No over the top unbelievable moves. But what I do believe is that we may get the best of the best only by season 2 or 3.

I am just about to start with the blue lock manga so will know soon how it compares to each other.
