Has Dragon Ball Aged Well?

Just finished watching Gintama and it parodied this show a lot, so it felt like a good show to watch next,
Dragon Ball never aired in my country so is only through the memes and Gintama I got the premise of the show.

So is the show still worth watching in 2022, does it still offer the same level of excitement and storytelling you can get from modern action shows

The Dragon Ball manga aged really good, but the original anime and Z not that much, we still have the abridged parody in YouTube wich covers all the Z arcs up to Cell (I really recommend to read all the DB Manga and then to watch Abridged, though I've seen some people get into DB through Abridged), if you need more you can get to Super

Yes, it’s still top tier in terms of animation quality, and the story and villains are still great. But no…to a certain extent, because of all the filler. I loved the filler as a kid, but as someone who’s watched the series countless times, I get annoyed by it now. Like Frieza’s fight with Goku is ridiculously long, I’m just like:

I would recommend Kai, but I still have soft spot for the original.

DB has aged perfectly. DBZ is great, but I would offer Kai since they fixed all of the issues with the original. I wouldn’t recommend GT but the SSJ4 transformation is still by far one of the best. I don’t like DBS as much as the others, but the battles and hype is beyond amazing at times. It pretty much get rid of basic power scaling and they seem to downplay the level of Gods at times.

In order:
1. DB
2. DBZ
3. DBGT
4. DBS

But you probably already knew that.

The original child arc aged like fine wine, but it may not ofer the excitement and action you want. DBZ is only good through the Frieza saga (some say through the cell saga, but I disagree). I like to pretend the show ended after Goku becomes super saiyan.

Depends on your taste really. I don't believe there's such a thing as an anime that aged well. Every old anime appeals to a certain audience. Even if people say sth hasn't aged well, that's up to you to decide if it has or not.

At this time there are a lot of better stories, so in that way it's not the same than long ago.

But Dragon Ball is still a fun, charming adventure. You definitely can enjoy it.

Dragon Ball Z has aged more, in my opinion. It's soooo slow, and these days there are very few reasons to watch it beyond it's a classic. But I think it's still enjoyable.

So these shows have not really aged too much. Just you have surely watched better shows at this rate.

ya but it's on u, allot of people didn't watched Dragon bal Og neither did i watched But i can say u can Watch Dragon ball z kai without watching Dragon ball since Dragon ball z kai is way different and if u watched the Og then try Kai version since it's better and shorter and good opening and endings, u won't miss a thing except only fillers

it's still a timeless classic and One of the best battle shonen mangas out there. I don't get the unnecessary hate for it just cuz it's spinoffs and sequels were mediocre at best.

Watch it starting all the way from original dragon ball, it’s worth it and will probably enter your top 3

I'd say so yes, especially with dbz kai sitting there as the definitive version of Z

As an older viewer (35) who began watching the series circa 2000, I would say absolutely not.

DBZ got big back then since there was barely any anime on TV and watching online wasn't an option in the dial-up Internet days.

There is simply no way that a battle shounen with such awful, brain-dead story, shitty fight choreography, and worst of all, glacially slow pacing would have become a big hit if it had come out even 10 years later.

Hell, I loved DBZ when I was 13/14, but a few years later, being exposed to other anime, I realized how bad it was by comparison.

Most people who love DBZ now do so out of nostalgia. In about 10 years, I expect its reputation to continue sliding and many younger fans of the medium to scratch their heads at how it was ever so big.

So you would omit Gohan vs Cell from the good quality of DBZ?

Absolutely the entire DBZ is an example of the highest quality.
For example: if you remove any fragment from the DBZ, then this will mean castrating the plot and breaking it, since the creators made great efforts to improve the show (as well as each episode).

Still to this day one of the most entertaining and memorable anime works ever made, so of course it has more than aged well.

Yes, it has aged well. While it isn't as refined compared to most battle shounens today, I'd argue it still holds a lot of merit in its own right. The pacing of the show is admittedly a rough edge though.

I wouldn't base it on other people's opinions as everyone may have different experiences. Personally, I didn't think it would age too well for me with me being an adult. But when I rewatched it, I found it to still be enjoyable. Although I wouldn't consider it one of the best anime of all time for me now with my current tastes.

No, it hasn't. It still has shit levels of power scaling just for the plot to stay relevant. Has some of the most cliche tropes and is filled with plot armour and some plot holes. Many modern shounen which I don't consider to be too good are way better than that.

Of course, it's an og shounen and I respect it for that but saying it's outstanding, better than modern anime, is the best anime/shounen of all time is just plain bs. The pacing is ass, the fighting is shitty, and the dialogue is so cringe. It's literally carried by nostalgia and the fandom is the same if not worse than the Narutards.

Depends on you. If you wanna watch it, go for it.

many other anime/series have achieved much better feats than DB. The only thing it has to it's name is nostalgia from the 90's

No it hasn't, I am watching (re-watching, what ever) DBZ right now, I'm on Episode 180, and oh boy oh boy, now I know why I dropped it 26 years ago!

Tbh DBZ is way, way overrated, c'mon the slap on the faces of many fans with that idiotic Garlic Jr arc, enough said.
