Should I watch the movie next? Or the second season?

Hey all. I recently finished the show (in broadcast order lol) and enjoyed it. I'm just a little confused on if I should watch the movie next or the 2009 series.

For me, i’d say you should DEFINITELY watch the second season because it explains and helps people understand why the events occur as it unfolds in the movie. Without watching the second season, it might get vague and confusing to watch the movie.

On one hand, second season chronologically happens before the movie, and they were also released in that order. On the other, the chronology is already fucked up in this one, so you can watch the movie first and just embrace having no clue why this moment would have any dramatical meaning

the second is a lot of filler and also contains the endless eight so if you didn't watch the entire show in chronological order it will be a huge slog. I honestly can't recommend you watch the second season if you already watched the first because on its own without S1 episodes breaking it up its a difficult watch.

Only the first season is required to understand the movie, but I suggest watching the rest of the endless 8 arc and the school festival arc (last 3 episodes) from the second season. I didn't really enjoy the movie making arc which is most of the second season.

Endless Eight AKA one of the biggest trollimg exercises in anime history xD

Watching the second season prior to the film is probably advised, as the film follows on from and refers to events explained in the second season.

Honestly, season 2 is a huge downgrade in writing quality imo and while season 2 provides a bit more context to some moments in the movie, the only episode you really NEED to watch is Bamboo Rhapsody. And also since season 2 might be different depending on what website you watch it on, basically just watch every episode that doesn’t have “endless eight” or “the sigh of haruhi” in the title.

Watch the second season, one of the episodes is crucial to understand the movie and the endless 8 is important too even if you don't need to watch all of it just the first 2 and last ep are enough

Watch second season then movie. When you get to endless 8 watch episode 1,2 and last episode unless you want to watch all of it. Basically it’s the same episode with slight changes but there is important information in the episodes I listed. I really enjoyed second season and the last episode is pretty funny.

like everyone else is saying watch s2, but id just watch the first and last episodes of the endless eight arc, it's really not worth it trust me. then after that you get the movie where itll all come together and youll love it.

Oh boy, if you haven't watched the movie yet you're in for a treat. It's a masterpiece!
Watch season 2 first, but i'd recommend skipping most of the endless 8 arc
