Curious what some peoples first thoughts on this series are I am quite familiar with soccer/football and wondering how it stacks up initially in comparison to other sports series of our time like haikyuu or kuroko no basket. I have seen all of haikyuu and enjoyed it without liking volleyball too much, while on the other hand I didn't like kuroko too much even though I love basketball but I have not spent much time with it. Thanks for the help if any.

This is an interesting slow-paced soccer series because you get that demonstration when it comes to the soccer formation and such, also Aoi (the main character) is a very energetic kid who may seem to be immature at first perception but he's really passionate when it comes to soccer and just let that flow through.

to be honset.. it may have potential to be a good anime.. but i dnot know, the art direction feels very off to me and the MC looking preety generic to me from first impretion... maybe the art style will improve with later episode and we will get better character develepmant, but as of now, (and because i didnt read the manga) i think this anime is.. ok, but if it will still feels this way i dont think i will still watch it thou.

Thanks that helps I found my main issue with kuroko was the characters I struggled to actually like so I will give it a shot and see where it goes.

Cool slow pace isn't the worst thing I appreciate the feedback.

From what I’ve read and heard about it, ao ashi seems to be one of the most realistic and down to earth sports anime out there, a breath of fresh air if you ask me - provides a different dimension to sports anime than knb, haikyuu, or blue lock. Of course logical could prob elaborate as I’ve only read a few chapters.

Yea that is rather refreshing that was another Maine gripe I had with previous sports animes it almost comes off as cheesy and corny. Thank you !

nah, it's really grounded on reality and it's just a little bit exaggerated but not every time but I doubt it can be call it exaggerated since many player in their age can do that.

I like it. Good episode. Though they look off sometimes. Well, animation is not always perfect and ao ashi is really hard to animate. But I just noticed, in the manga they all really look thin in the early chapters and i think the anime is just being true to the manga? (in terms of character looks i mean) but in the middle parts until the current chapters of the manga, the art improved a lot. Plus the characters specially Ashito really thrived to bulked up during their days in Esperion .So I have a feeling that we will get a good art too in the anime in the upcoming episodes if that's the case. I don't find it a big issue but i still hope it improves. Overall, it's fine.

Like the above users have said, Ao Ashi is all about tactics, putting the MC in situations where he grows from it. It's quite enticing. However, I lament that the anime will use too many slide shows and not actual animation.

Firstly, Giant killing is a generic sports series. Second, Ao ashi is about athletes going professional like other sports animes. That's how sports works in real life anyway and that's what makes it enjoyable and inspiring to read and watch. Third, ao ashi is a seinin manga/anime and i can guarantee that's ao ashi is very different from other football series. but since you didn't know that, im guessing you didn't read the manga and just basing your opinion in the first episode and rumors. You people keep calling "sports series" generic just because they all show the same "character growth" and athletes aiming to be professional type of story which is the very purpose of the authors.

Also, if being generic is a problem for you, you're just another plain stupid fan. Like, what do you want the characters to do? Fly? Shoot a laser while playing football? Teleport? Make a transformation or something? Be a snake? Get abducted by aliens?💀The purpose of sports animes is to feature how athletes grow. So hating it for that is so stupid.

Seriously, stop using the word "generic" when you don't understand what it means in the world of sports.

i've watched a lot of soccer animes, everyone single one of them has a original story, and this one seems different, protagonist is trying to pursue his dream, by himself from the start.

OK I won't be answering anything except for the part 'Kuroko's basketball'. The biggest problem with the series is that it is super unnatural, uses inhuman abilities which you won't see in other acclaimed sports series, also the constant arguments between the characters and the personalities are huge turn off. I think people who doesn't really care much about the sport manga in general would honestly like it for its flashy moves.

Slam Dunk looks awesome in an "old school" type of way. I couldn't make it past 2 seasons of Kuroko, it became a fucking battle shonen.

My first impressions are good. It's fairly standard so far, which is not a bad thing, especially if it's at least decently executed which is the case here. Main character, Ashito, seems like a good lead and the coach and Hana also seem fun. I like how this story will be focusing on actual club and league football and not the school system of sport competition we are used to seeing in anime. Also looks like it will delve into tactics and strategies more than other sport anime generally do. Those are things I'm quite excited to see developed as the show goes on, even more so as a football fan.

Visually the show looks competent enough. Characters look nice, backgrounds aren't bad, light and color are also pleasant. My main worry is whether the show will manage to remain consistent in that regard or not. I never expected Kuroko or let alone Haikyuu's godly level of production but for a more conservative approach judging by the staff, designs and sport in question, at least conservative relative to average Produciton IG show. Character designs look like a pain in the ass to animate and I believe football is a more challenging sport to animate than basketball or volleyball so I worry the show might disappoint people who are expecting Haikyuu!!-level production or similar. As long as the designs don't fall apart or the show turns into a complete slideshow and as long as we get animation highlights for important moments I will be happy.

I'm gonna be honest. It's not a huge deal when it comes down to ground or technical department. Slam Dunk is massively popular because it's characters are super interesting, especially the mc. The story also is damn nicely written and throughly searched. Also add the comedy part because it's one of the most hilarious shows you can ever find in a sport genre.

I'm not into this genre at all. But this one! I watched the first 2 episodes and i started reading the manga ( 127 chapters till now ).

The story is amazing, one of the best MCs out there. And Hana.. one of the best waifus, lol. :p Just make it happen in the end, don't ruin the series with romance, just in the end! I would like to see that.

Can't blame you. I'll tell you what? I think even unnatural inhuman abilities being in a sport genre is fine if you write in such a way. This had the most unlikable characters and their reasoning for being are so hilariously bad and stupid.

Inhuman abilities is fairly normal for the sports genre, but whatever they were doing in KurokoS2 was on another fucking level. lol

I watched lots of different sports anime and so far it looks pretty okay in comparison but not so special. The only thing that stands out for me is that they are trying for a youth team which seems to have higher standards than your average high-school sports. But other than that it's still just a beginning and I can't say that characters stand out as much as in other sports anime. So I hope it gets more interesting later on.

Indeed but I think we shouldn’t worry that much so since it’s Kuroko Baskets’ staff which as good as Haikyuu’s staff

But in the end it depends in the schedule given to the staff just to be keep in mind since even haikyuu for its second part of S4 had 2 outsourced episodes that were kinda rough as a result of the pandemic and schedule.

i honestly think this is a good start, the show is realistic to a good extent. it is also nicely paced, not too much or too little is happening. you can savour each moment. i think it should have a 7.9 rating minimum for now.

lmao yeah, I guess the right kind of story makes even the most unnatural thing okay? I mean heck those character's personalities for instance was so annoying and unreasonable. The back story was kind of nice and all but it was so exaggerated.
