Casteau said:Okay, so, the knight who LITERALLY PUSHED Boji off a cliff, following Miranjp's order, who then wanted to take suicide because of his actions will just forgive Miranjo without questions - Don't get me wrong, Miranjo's backstory was very touching and all but her being forgiven did not feel justified at all, a sad backstory does not exuse literally killing people, the closest thing to a redemption arc was Miranjo stopping Kage from going to the afterlife and that was like a five minute scene in a 23 episode series. So that's the redemption parts out of the way, onto the bad shit she did: She killed Boji's mother(ruthlessly I might add), she stole Daida's body and put the king in it, she literally made an immortal guy fight Boji who probably would have killed him if he hadn't gotten any help, mind you that happened in episode 19, only 4 episodes before the last one and she just watched quietly without doing anything, ready to see him die before her eyes. So all that bad stuff and one five minute long redemption arc - if you can even call it an arc, means that she deserves to get a new, real body, be forgiven by everyone without question AND be allowed to marry prince Daida, who literally spent days if not weeks trapped inside his own mind completely alone because of her. Really this is the most pisspoor ending I've seen in a while and it does not stand up even close to the same level as the first episodes which were a solid 10. Sadly, this drags down my rating of the show from a solid 10/10 to an 8/10.

After such a fantastic first cour, how did this second cour happen like this? Bojji's training into a badass happened more or less entirely offscreen and hence felt thoroughly unearned. Kage was dumbed down into an obnoxious cheerleader and Brock-esque exposition machine, constantly stating the obvious and just refusing to shut up? Any stakes of death are non-existent thanks to the never-ending, plot-convenient healing powers that multiple characters just so happened to have (including Bosse, without any foreshadowing) and happened to over-use to the point of parody. Daida was sidelined for 90% of the second cour thanks to Miranjo's actions, yet the first thing he does upon returning to his body is forgive her and want to marry her.
And speaking of Miranjo, that's where this second cour well and truly went wrong in so many ways. There's absolutely no conceivable way she should be forgiven so easily after all the atrocities she committed against Bojji's family. She killed Bojji's mother, sacrificed Daida so Bosse could return to life, tried to assassinate Hilling, tried to destroy the country and so much else beside, yet she gets off scot-free as if nothing ever happened.

Seeing Bojjji go on his journey to improve and prove himself was something I enjoyed seeing and I loved the personal moments between him and with Kage and Hiling especially. Her remembering her times with Bojji was something that had me tearing up not going to lie. Her character went from something like Cinderella's wicked stepmother to someone who was only looking out for Bojji in an overprotective manner and was a nice reveal for me.
Unfortunately this reveal was repeated over and over and over and over and over. Nearly every character is introduced as an opponent or even a foe and quickly is shown to simply be misunderstood and is a great guy after all. Very repetitive and it gets to the point of absurdity. Gets all the way to Miranjo and the way everyone simply forgives her (and Daida wants to marry her!) is simply an eye rolling event. Her and Bosse just are contradictory figures who do at the very least questionable things and then nevermind, helps out Bojji now. Domas actually tried to kill the kid! Miranjo did kill his mother! Then there's Ouken, wonder how many people that guy killed in the town but of course "saving" him is what is important, the deaths of others are irrelevant. Pfft.
This show clearly wants to reform everyone and have sparkles and rainbows and smiles but this is simply unreasonable and I could not take it seriously at all. The Bojji/Kage/Hiling trio when interacting is the only part of this show I can really say I enjoyed unfortunately.
6/10, overrated.
I agree with what you guys said. I really love the first cour of this anime but then it fell flat for me... The directions and pacing felt so off; the last few episodes felt messy af. There was a point where I don't even know if Miranjo and Bosse have a thing for each other or if it was just platonic. Either way, I do not like both of them at all. I did feel bad at one point for Miranjo but that's not enough for me to really care for her or feel sorry for her at all.
