The official website announced that Sengoku BASARA 2 will be aired in Sunday 5pm airing block, in which Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has been aired. According to Taguchi Koji, the producer of Square Enix, the airing fee paid by the anime producers to the TV company depends on the timeslot and the fee of "Sunday 5pm, nationwide" block is 10 - 20 times largar than that of conventional "After-midnight, local" block. Taguchi said airing anime in the costly timeslot was extremely risky. Airing block fee (assuming Square Enix's investment share to be 50%) Weekend 6pm timeslot (nationwide): $2.7 million per season After-midnight timeslot (sub-nationwide): $0.3 million per season * Sengoku BASARA 1st season was aired in this block After-midnight timeslot (local): $0.15 million per season Anime titles aired in the Sunday/Saturday 5/6pm timeslot Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch R2 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Sources: Sengoku BASARA official website, Biz Makoto ![]() Modified by dtshyk, Apr 11, 2010 7:59 AM |
I'm going to take a wild guess on what this will cause: - An increase in the DVD/BD sales compared to the first season (assuming they start releasing BDs this time around). - The death of Nichigo. Just what are the producers thinking... do they want to get 1.*-2.*% ratings for a whole season that badly? I'd been as optimistic as I could regarding FMA's comeback and even that didn't work so well, leave alone the second season of a show that was fairly popular at best... (But I'm pretty happy about it anyway because this could mean a bigger budget for Basara and possibly 2 cours.) ![]() |
If having your own beer is a sign of popularity, then basara was definitely popular. If anything this just means that basara's second season is going to have a huge budget. ![]() |
dtshyk said: Risky? It's downright stupid. What the hell are they thinking...Taguchi said airing anime in the costly timeslot was extremely risky. Gundam and FMA have a huge following and the first season of Code Geass was a huge success all around. But I guess that's why they're successful; they aren't afraid of taking risks and they know you gotta spend money to make money. ![]() |
I was interested when I saw the announcement last night. If the prime time airslot can increase DVD/BD sales, AND GAME SALES, then it may be a great success. There is a current fad in Japan right now. Girls look up to Samurais and such. It may be worth it. ![]() |
I just hope their funding lasts the full season so we don't see a drop of production values by the end. I loved the first season, and I would really hate to see a particular timeslot cause it to falter. ![]() |
Wow, that's pretty impressive. Everything in that timeslot have been huge and I have been wondering what would replace FMA. ![]() |
Raitora said: Considering Basara3 (the game, that is) is coming out soon, I don't really see why some people think this is surprising... Percisely. Prime time = more viewers/wider demographic = hopefully more Game sales, which will cover the cost of airing it primetime. ![]() |

Meh_93 said: Not a very smart move. Most shows in that slot already have a large fan base before they start to air and Sengoku BASARA really doesn't..... I believe that Sengoku Basara as a really strong fan base in japan, at least I got the impression that the games were really popular. ![]() |
I'm not sure this was a good idea...As much as I love Basara, it doesn't have the level of popularity that FMA, CG and G00 have. I don't want them to wind up broke over this. But hopefully it will pull some more people into the fandom, goodness knows they need it. ![]() |
I know business is all about risk, but even an average joe should know there is a limit to how much risk you can take. anyways, this is kinda sad, because it means, Basara will be the mainstream anime, which translates the level of entertainment in other slots we will be having. :/ ![]() Stay Home and Wash Your Hands. Well, they sure are taking their gunz out. This idea does not sound very good (at least given the comparison they give us) but I doubt there is another show besides Basara that can take FMA Brotherhood's spot that season. We'll see. ![]() |
A lot of people seem to think this is a crazy idea, but SenBasa seems to be REALLY popular in Japan... maybe not as much as Gundam or others, but it really has a large fanbase. ANYWAYS, I'm so hyped for the second season! I hope the OP will be even more epic and that we'll get more Motochika, Motonari and Keiji... but it seems like it'll follow the storyline of the second game, so that wish should come true. ![]() |

THat's what I was thinking. It has tons of games and I'm assuming the original season was really popular hence the idea for the move. ![]() |
Can't wait for the epicness. And if indeed this was a "risky" move, then I'm expecting more epicness than what S1 offered. And please don't compare this to FMA. It's pretty much entirely different material. Is FMA: Brotherhood ending prematurely or something because of this or what? ![]() |
It looks like their gamble paid off. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-07-12/sengoku-basara-2-debut-sets-anime-record-in-timeslot ![]() |
