Having read the VN, I think that 2 movies (2h each) would be fine. What do you think?

One is worst case scenario. Three is best case scenario if they want to adapt some of the slower slice of life scenes and flesh out the characters more (which I doubt they will).

I think two movies is a good compromise. Although I fear the second movie is just going to be fight scenes galore. I'd really prefer three movies and a slower pace overall. Even if they take a fight scene or two that should take place in the third film and shove it into the second one in order to appease the ufotable nerds that only care about the fights.

In my mind:
Movie 1 = Chapters 1 through 5-II (including the Alice fight in extra chapter 1.5.)
Movie 2 = Chapters 6-9 (forcibly insert the fight in chapter 10 in order to create a satisfying cliffhanger ending to build up hype for the final film. Adaptating other extra chapter stuff can also help with hitting the run time.)
Movie 3 = Chapters 10-13 (with the amount of stuff that goes on in those chapters, it can easily make up its own film, hopefully without too much of the infodumps being glazed over.)

7-8 hours would've be optimal with minimum to no scene being cut. 6 hours would've skipped as much as HF movie skipped scene from the VN.

So it's either 3-4 movies for the best.

If it's just 1 movie, then expect another "Tsukihime anime".

Take with a grain of salt but it looks like the NYE stream will announce that it is indeed a trilogy.

New account, so it can go either way. Some of his leaks he's right about. But I was told Mahoyo trilogy leak isn't real. We'll see. Tbh I'm not even certain if they'll confirm the format of the Mahoyo movies during the NYE stream. But we will absolutely get a new trailer.

Some people were saying that he's actually AnimeHype, if that's the case then it's reliable. Also considering the first movie is now less than a year away it's about time to get the staff list, number of movies and the first proper PV. Heaven's Feel 1 got his first PV on a Fate Project stream and the movie released later in October, so it's about time.

Well, that guy certainly didn't pan out. That NYE stream was one of the worst streams I've seen. Oh well. Hopefully we'll learn more about the Mahoyo film format soon. But it's safe to say that leaker is full of shit.

Deleted his account, so yeah he was trolling. He was partially right about Shimousa though. Anyway, Anime Japan hopium.

There's no way on Earth Mahoyo Part 1 (the story isn't even finished yet) gets a trilogy. The adaptation would kind of need that to get the characters and the general tone right, but it's obvious from Nasu's interviews Aniplex won't put any focus on Mahoyo and this is strictly an anniversary project.

It'll probably be only one movie and they'll turn it into a typical action anime like most things Aniplex does lately...

Plus the adaptation's not generating all too much hype in Japan, which isn't too surprising looking at what most Type-moon fans expected from ufotable after Heaven's Feel...

I've thought about this for a long time, and no matter how much I try, I just can't imagine Mahoyo being done in 3 movies. There's simply no potential to do so.

I think movie 1 is pretty obvious, it will go from 1 to 5-II. Chaps 4, 5 and 5-II go together and chaps 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 on its own don't make a movie at all.

The problem is chaps 6 to 9. It's pretty much like days 5 to 7 and 11 to 13 of HF, the story barely advances in those chapters, so having 3 movies would mean that movie 2 would be half plot and half SoL scenes at best. That's not a movie, that's a flop. Also the scene in chap 10 is not enough for a climax imo, it works better as the beginning of a 2nd act. So I think the best choice is to condense 6-9, leaving the VN type of stuff like SoL scenes to the VN, only adding the ones that develop the characters and end up making 2 movies. Dramatically, it will work perfectly, although we are gonna have to deal with the annoying diehards, but I really think that's what would make the best adaptation. We will see.

3 movies would take like 4-6 years, I don't want to wait that long, anything can change in such massive time frames. 2 would be ideal, there are just 2 major arcs in the VN.
And some people here want 5 movies? Talk about clueless....

I'm going to be a bit more optimistic and say that I think it's going to be 1 movie and I think it will be fine. Yea ideally should be a series but I'll still be very happy to see this great story adapted into anime.

Let's keep our expectations in check, 2 movies will be really good and will have the best fights as central. The reality is that it's nowhere near as popular as Heaven's Feel to get 3 movies.
Also, waiting 6 years for 3 movies is not my thing, but I can forgive getting the 2nd and final movie in like 2 years.

I feel like based on the trailer and just my own assumptions it will be 2. I think for those of us who read the VN its going to be great regardless and for people new to it if their interested enough maybe they'll check it out to get the rest of whatever might be cut.
