I know it was a really hard time for their family too, but damn, she was only giving them some space for the food and the money. She was really rotten inside, if they would be in other house with good people these months, probably wouldn't end like that the movie. But it's a character use i to show the cruel side of the family ,so it's doing their job

She’s definitely effective at invoking a reaction from the audience. I don’t see how anyone could watch her role in that movie and not feel absolute rage. Those poor kids, her behavior was monstrous, truly.

She was like what a lot of relatives are in the world: only fulfilling the most basic of her responsibilities in as loveless of a way as possible. She fed, sheltered, and "encouraged" her nephew to go to school, but she never once showed them any compassion or affection that is so needed during growth years. That being said, if I was the nephew, I think I personally still would've tried to suffer the pain if it meant a guaranteed allowance of food and shelter during hellish wartime and economy meltdown. It would've guaranteed their survival, but at an emotional cost.

She was right about some things. He needs to contribute to live there.

And anyone saying she was ONLY giving them food and shelter are stupid. Food and shelter was everything a man could wish for in those times.
