First of all i love comedy series and I'm currently at episode 66. There are a lot of forums/people saying it will be better after the episode 50-60 but I still don't find that funny. The Benizakura arc was entertaining because of the villain character and others reactioıns etc. I really laughed at one punch man and prison school and also currently watching grand blue (funny from the first episode to me) I find funny, situational comedy/characters reactions in odd situations kind a stuff but in a connected episodes/related plotline like in OPM.

Does the show gets funnier/better? or Should I skip some not connected episodes and only watch the arcs for a while?

it stays the same, it'll have some serious battle action arcs and some random gintama-like comedy in between

Humor is subjective so not everyone will find it funny. I too am currently watching it and personally, I absolutely love the comedy in the show (cause that's what I see as funny) But I heard that it gets really good later on. I suggest try to keep watching until season 4? Idk, I ain't the best person to put my incite on this.
Watch what you want to watch.

The first 50 episodes of comedy weren't funny but some episode patts. After the Benizakura arc, that's where the comedy kicks in.

My favorite episodes are around 125-145, but I'm not really a fan of Gintama. Decent slice of life, subpar comedy and serious arcs.

The actual "serious" shonen arcs are mid at best; if you can appreciate the hilarious parodical referential comedy that's placed in-between, then, by all means, continue; otherwise, feel free to drop it.

Oh i see it, so gintama is more of a parody then sitcom style right?

People have different humor if you don't like it drop it. I enjoyed Gintama a lot, but it's not for everyone.

Certainly Gintama is the funniest that I've watched but their humour is very subjective. It does get good and more funnier, but the basis of the humour isn't that much different from what you have seen.

Skipping episodes and focusing on the arcs are really not a good idea but if you still want to then I can't stop you. If you have went deep and the joke still doesn't click much, then you don't have to force yourself.

- NOT your usual shounen anime
- Pure comedy? DEAD WRONG
- Treat Gintama as SoL/weekly sitcom especially earlier seasons
- Ep 1 & 2 are for manga readers
- BIG patience for its 'slow' start

Both, there are a lot of character-based running gags that anyone can enjoy, such as Hijikata's love for Mayonaiuse, Katsura's catchphrase, and many, many more. But, there is also an extensive, and I mean extensive range of parodies and satire covering a variety of Japanese media, reaching beyond the realm of animanga.

Gags are really the worst kind of comedy, like One Piece 1000 episodes and author still do stuff like " hAhA Usopp is afraid of something for the hundredth time" or "HaHa Sanji drools at the sight of women for the hundredth time" or " Huhuhu Zoro lost his way again so funny", and you can say that about 90% of comedy in Shounens XD Demon Slayer, Black Clover, Naruto, Fairy tail, all the same.

Imo the comedy is really good around episode 120 and all of season 2. Also in the upcoming arc at episode 76 there is a really funny episode but if you don't feel like sitting through it then you shouldn't waste your time
