What exactly is the takeaway from this series? I loved this anime and rate it 9/10 for the animation, characters, mystery, and pacing. But what all was

I like to believe that the series is trying to highlight the different forms of disillusionment and that running from your problems will always have a worse effect than flat out accepting the truth. Every character has some different mental crisis that they want to escape from. They all use Lil Slugger as a crutch, a temporary release, from their problems but it’s not until they are able to accept reality that they find some type of resolution to their individual issues.

Edit: As far as what was actually happening on screen. Like I said previously all the characters shared one factor in their disillusionment and that was lil slugger. So IMO I don’t think any of those things really happened in the real world and that it was all a fake illusion that they all shared together, via the common fear of lil slugger. They were all able to understand each other better through this common fear and allowed them to see the manifestation of their fear together. A better way to describe it is that it was Tsukiko Sagi who first made Lil Slugger public knowledge because of her fame and popularity. So therefore her manifestation was able to be seen by everyone, but once her disillusionment was unraveled. The world had to accept that there never was a lil slugger and everyone had to come to accept reality.

At least, that’s my take-away. I could be wrong but hopefully that helps
