Is it me or is Shinji a lot more confident in this movie? Honestly, it's a breath of fresh air seeing him rise up to the occasion. Even when quits beings pilot, he has no regrets doing it. No depression just has no fucks to give. Realizes his dad is a dick head and leaves. Big ups to my man. Drunk af btw :D

I just can't stand him. Loved the anime and most other characters, but not Shinji.
Horrible in the 1st movie and still irrational, selfish and illogical in this one.

shinji is victim of circumstances and environment if he was in another anime world for example gurren lagann he would be as cheerful and positive as simon , I think movie shinji has less time for us to understand him than the series counterpart.Hence people dont connect with him but for me he and rei still have progressed a lot from the series.Shinji true Gigachad in final battle.He did what he couldn't do before he failed to save asuka so atleast he wants to save the person who tried to help him, in a weird way rei is shinji's sister/mother in some form and in the movies rei really brings it on that she cares for gendo and shinji.
