I've been seeing people recommend it as a long running anime so i wanted people's opinion. Does FMA:B (with its 64 episodes) and Monter (with 74 episodes), qualify as long running animes? I was under the impression that a long running anime has at least over 100 episodes.

FMAB also has FMA to it so it becomes over 110+ episodes.

Those are separate shows. You don’t have to watch both.

I mean, it depends. If you think a show needs to have 100 episodes to be a long runner, that’s your opinion and that’s fine. Some people think a show with over 50 episodes is a long runner. It’s all just personal opinion. If I had to pick a cutoff point I guess I’d say 60 episodes is what I’d consider a long show.

You do, if you want to be a real FMA fan.

Regardless, FMAB itself is a long runner, it ran for over an year.

That doesn’t change the fact that they’re separate shows. Imagine calling Fate a long running anime because it has well over 100 episodes, ignoring the fact that those episodes are spread across a multitude of separate shows, the longest of which is 41 episodes. They’re all part of the same franchise, but they’re not the same anime.

Both share the same source material though and have their own takes on it. FMAB begins on a filler episode for example.

I personally think it depends from anime to anime; for me Fmab isn’t a long running anime cause it’s very enjoyable instead of Jojo’s third part that the more I kept watching the more bored I was

depends on what kind of shows said person consumes regularly. people who like sitcoms or other '8-seasons-24-episodes-each' kinda shows can easily down fmab.
other '3-seasons-12-episodes' kinda people might feel intimidated by a 60-70 episode count.

Gate keeping at its finest. People can watch one or both and still be fans. You don't get to decide the qualifications of being a fan.

It depends. There are people that thinks that one cour a season in anime is ideal and probably consider this as long running anime and there are also people that can normally watch one/two/or even three cours a season(JoJo for example) probably consider this as a non long running anime.

Personally, if it has 50+ episodes(which means it ran for at least a year. Anime usually airs one episode per week) I consider it as a long running Anime.

It depends from person to person, to me an anime with 50+ episodes is long, animes like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc... are extremely long.

So to me FMAB is long.

fma for me is original content because they move so far away from the canon. Like the anime movies most series have.

Yeah. I don't know if it would be classified as a long-runner.

I never thought FMAB to be a long running anime because I always associated long running anime to be like Naruto or Dragon Ball.

When I was a beginner any anime more then 25 episode was a long runner for me but now I think an anime more then 50 episode is a long runner
As you keep watching animes length of a long runner for you just keep getting bigger

FMAB only ran for a little over a year iirc, so no I wouldn't consider it a long running anime. It's still worth watching though.

Long running basically means those anime with hundreds of episodes (Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece etc) generally.
